It has taken me a long time to write this as I am a local and I support local businesses, but, After many years of going to the general store and not being acknowledged, I just had to speak up. Every time I go into the store, NO ONE greets you or even smiles. With the exception of a very sweet girl Natalie who worked there years ago, the service is embarrassing.Every time I go there, I say to myself, this is the last time. I spent many years working in retail and I know that friendly service is so important, especially when you are the only grocer in a small town and are charging the high prices they charge. What ever happened to small town hospitality? You won't find it here.The other day I went in to see if they had a certain bread a friend had requested because they don't like to go to this store for the same reasons as I. There were no other customers in the store. The sales girl was sitting on a chair behind the counter and the owner was talking to her while on her phone. They knew I had entered and could see me as I was near them. They did not look up, they did not say hello or say can I help you. I walked out and it was as if I was a ghost.I know the simple things one can do to make a place welcoming, a simple hello, a smile. This time I will NEVER go back. I don't support rudeness.

My partner and I love this store for all it's local products, clean layout, and the staff are very friendly. You'll find a simple coffee and tea station, local groceries, ready to go sandwiches and deli eats. And we love the assortment of unconventional cooking condiments, spices, etc. from the Asian continent because we often cook with those. It's great having a grocer who carries those harder finds. This store adds an element of 'cool' to Copake that quite literally adds diverse flavors to our community. Definitely stop in and see the owner, Seung--she's great!

Really enjoy shopping at The General Store. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a nice selection of local produce if you need something fast and other pantry items/snacks. It is obviously more pricey than a super market but that’s kind of the business model so I dont fault them. The prepared foods are a hit! The sandwiches are really yummy as are the baked goods.

I love the general store. Seung and the staff are cheerful, helpful and it’s always a pleasure to pop in for groceries. They are fully stocked with all the basics plus local coffee, meat, cheese, produce and other items made in the area. They seem to know all their customers by name and the prices are competitive with other food stores. This place has been a godsend during the pandemic and they visibly increased the scope of what they sell to make trips to the big grocery store a much less frequent necessity for me. They make salads, sandwiches and cakes of great flavor and quality as well. Can’t recommend this place enough.

The General Store is the small-town store of my dreams. They carry beautiful local produce, flowers, cheese, bread, baked goods. They make sandwiches and soup. They have that cold drink you want and the chips you probably don't need. There's always some enticing craft (bluebird houses, cutting boards, soaps) from local makers. The people are lovely; the space is cheering. And if you're really lucky, there might even be a dog hanging out in the store when you come by. Just the best.

Great food, lovely selection of pantry/grocery supplies that you’d otherwise have to drive quite the distance to get a hold of. They make addictive scones and cookies. Unfortunately, owner and counter server could use a Xanax as I’ve yet to have an encounter with them where I’m not treated as if I’m offending them by simply reacting to all the items around the counter clearly meant for impulse purchase. Lots of rules, easily irritated and generally grumpy humans running an otherwise lovely shop. Not sure if I’ll keep coming here as It seems to get worse every time and would rather spare myself the time spent after every visit wondering what I’ve done to receive such bizarre service.

great small town store that I want to badly to support but the check out lady / owner and young woman who works here are both so rude and controlling, rarely helpful. I never get a good vibe- I always leave feeling under appreciated and kinda sad, even after spending tons of money they just don’t seem to have an ability to be warm and fuzzy or kind at all, in fact it feels like they are almost intentionally cold? WHY?! The only one who’s ever smiled at me was the really sweet Asian woman that’s usually in the kitchen. I want to keep shopping here to support the small business but I wish they would just try a little harder to be genuinely kind, it’s not that hard! :)

A very nice country store in the center of Copake. Clean and well organized. Food is very good. You can spend some time on the porch in the summer reading the paper and enjoying a sandwich.

Not a true gen store. High end deli with limited selection of high end food items. However the croissant sandwiches and egg sandwiches we picked up for our travel and picnic lunches were great.

This is a really nice little place under new ownership. Sandwiches are great and their choices of soft drinks are interesting and good. Eat on the front porch and relax in small town NYS. You'll enjoy it.

Unfortunately, I just had a very unpleasant experience at the Copake General Store.I am a part-time resident of Copake, and my housemates and I shop at the General Store on a regular basis, which included yesterday for lunch.We know that the Store closes at 3 PM on Sundays, so we headed there for sandwiches shortly before 2 PM, arriving at 2:05. When we tried to order sandwiches, we were abruptly and, actually, quite rudely informed that no more sandwiches were being as it was after 2. Perhaps that policy is posted on-line or somewhere in the store, but we’ve certainly never knew of it, and when we pointed out that it was 2:05, we’ were sharply dismissed by both food preparers.In the end, we decided to buy cold cuts and bread. When we checked out, one of the food preparers grudgingly apologized. When I told her that we’re regulars, and that I wasn’t happy, she replied, “Well, I didn’t expect you to be.”I do hope this is a one-off occurrence, but I’m not sure that I’ll ever feel good about going back there.Steve Henry

My first time at the store, I walked in (door was unlocked) it was 9am (or 5 mins to 9) all I wanted was orange juice, and the woman was very rude and told me she wasn’t ready. I even said good morning to her and was nice. Not rude or anything. I went across the street to the Sunoco. Not a welcoming place that’s for sure! First impression was not good.

My favorite place for lunch, food shopping for special items & scones....cookies....brownies.I could go on & on. Sung, Bob Maryanne , Wendy, Suzy Q are all friendly so at once you feel at home. Sung & Bob have transformed the building into a hip, inviting & happening place to have a snack, lunch or just hangout.Oh, & on Fryday's there is a special dinner for "2" @ a great price, always different & wonderfully delish.....please reserve in advance !!!I'm sure, visit once & you will go again, again & again !!!!!

Absolutely insane what they charge here. Go anywhere else. A six pack of Sam Adams was $15.00 and a six pack from Chatham Brewery was $14.00. This is just insane, why would anyone go here? Gas station across the street has a better selection and the prices are reasonable.
