I live in Manhattan, but have a weekend home in the Berkshires. I came to this practice some 25+ years ago and would not DREAM of taking my pets anywhere else. I recently lost my 22 year old cat and I credit this practice for extending her life and providing extraordinary care and support up until the day she died on 02/17/2024. The compassion shown by the staff and Dr.Klay helped me through this very difficult journey. I am eternally grateful.

Practice has been in the community for a very long time. They are professional, friendly and most of all very good with animal handling. I've witnessed more than one occasion of their going above and beyond for their patients and owners. I really trust (and take) their advice.

We went to Copake Vet for 13 years to Dr. Reisweiller who was always excellent. He provided exemplary care for our animals. When Reisweiller was retiring we started seeing Dr. Klay for our GSD Alex. The GSD was a dog trained and titled in several sports, thousands of hours of training, and a Master Level scent work dog. More so than a partner in competition, Alex was a protector of and a member of our family. Alex was a patient of Copake Vet his entire life. Our GSD developed bloat on a Saturday morning during office hours. We drove 10 minutes to their office calling their office enroute and got long busy signals. When we arrived the parking lot was empty of client cars - ie no other patients were there. Dr. Klay and the tech Teesha refused to stabilize Alex, see him or even come out to the parking lot . Instead we were told to go to the emergency vet in Latham over an hour and a half away. I told the receptionist to tell Klay the dog was in extreme pain, had bloat and would probably not make it and to tell Dr. Klay. Klay still refused to see him. GSD Alex died hours later (when the emergency vet could finally operate) during an operation the emergency vet said would cost $17K to save him, ended up $4K because they could not. The emergency vet said they had a 70% chance of saving him which is why we agreed to it. They also told us to leave as they were sedating him and would call when the operation was over. I did not want to leave - they insisted - but felt better that we made it there and they would care for him. We found out later the type of bloat he had (double bubble) there was no saving him. So basically Copake Vet could have/should have put him down in the parking lot hours earlier. Klay's decision was inhumane. Alex could have been given a pain med for the ride, had the pressure relieved so the pain was not excruciating, but instead they did NOTHING. And Teesha was rude on the phone Monday when we called to tell Copake Vet he died and the circumstances. We received a phone call from their accountant who we never met before who basically spent an hour on the phone trying to justify their lack of care and covering their bases. We knew why he called and it had nothing to do about real concern. We lost a great dog that day and our vet practice as well. We moved our other two dogs to another practice. It is a year later-this happened 4/15/2023. Out of respect for our initial vet Reisweiller I have held off but the inhumane circumstances of Alex's death and Klay's lack of professional care and concern for a long-term patient still haunts me. RIP Alex my boy you did not deserve the death you had. I will never forget how good your heart was and how humans failed you totally.

Reply: I've edited my post to include pictures showing I've been a customer since atleast 2018 and I was there last year to despite their claim. I keep all my records. Outstanding customer relations calling me a lier and accusing me of being less than professional.I've been going here for years and I use to think this was the best vet in the area. Then over the last 2 years I don't know what happened. Seems like all the staff has left there except one Dr. and the women who answers the phone; whom is the rudest person ever and will hang up on you once she has decided the conversation is over.

Love these vets, vet techs, and receptionists. They have being caring for my pets since 2009, since i moved to Hillsdale. Amazing group of people ❤️. My dog had surgery for cancer concern recently, and I broke down crying worrying about him when I dropped him off. They were right there for me..

I have been using Copake Vet since I first owned a pet. I am very pleased with their services and will continue to use them for all my veterinary needs. Thank you Copake Vet for your great service and compassion.

My sister's cat was very sick (difficulty walking and panting heavy). Called this Copake Vet where she has been a customer for 15 years. They told her they don't accept emergencies and could not see the poor cat for three weeks. My sister was devastated. The receptionist was rude and showed zero compassion. Fortunately, she called another Vet about 15 miles away that had five star reviews on Google. They took the cat that afternoon and found significant cancer on the x-ray. Unfortunately, the cat had to be put to sleep. Copake Vet has gone down hill in a big way. They wont be there for you when you need them most. Also, I see the owners of this company don't read these reviews because if they did, they would not allow the wise cracking responses. I'm guessing the same receptionist who is rude on the phone is also the person responding to all the numerous negative Google reviews.

Love this practice!! Very knowledgeable doctors!! Very fair prices and they spend quality time with your pets each visit. We bring our goats right to the office and Dr. Bill and Dr. Karen are amazing with them. The office staff is friendly and helpful. We also bring our dog Zeus and they are great with him and he's a handful. They always get us in promptly when we have an emergency and spend time with us and explain things thoroughly. Highly recommend this amazing group of vets.

Extremely great practice.Looked after our first dog Sam and now Archie.Last visit was with Dr Duryea and his compassion shines thru.Unfortunately thay are extremely understaffed and if you have an emergency you will have to go to Latham.Service is great there also just not as convenient.I am writing this also because I heard someone complaining about not being taken for an emergency and I agree it sucks but to think or be selfish enough to attack a business for turning away sick pets..maybe take a second and think outside of yourself. They are doing all that they can and I hope they know how appreciated and loved they are by many people and pets.I hope they find likeminded vets to join there practice and help them to help all of us and our pets

The staff and doctors here are great. They take the time to really examine and talk to me about options with the various issues that have come up over the years with my aging dog. Ever during the pandemic we had a great experience getting her checked safely and always getting meds refilled quickly and easily.

This place is absolutely the best! We live about an hour and 15 minutes away and don't mind the drive because they are wonderful and affordable. Our pets our happy with all the staff. And that makes me feel good knowing our Angel's are in good hands.

CVH has the greatest team to care for our pup! Every time we come for a visit the staff are warm, friendly, and excited to see our pup. The service is professional, caring, and always in the best interest and well-being of our pup. Love your pet longer by using Copake Veterinary Hospital!

All of my neighbors recommended taking our pups here, but I haven't had an opportunity yet as they are too small to support the growing community up here. Would suggest that they bring on more vets to support clients new and old. From their reply, and the fact that they have too many inquiries to maintain a waitlist, you can tell that they are unwilling to provide adequate service for the Copake area.

Horrible. Just horrible, we used them for 10 years. Was a great place. Until you had to deal with DONNA BARTON. She is rude rude rude. I am a senior citizen, and she was unwilling to honor an appointment that we had. We were literally walking out of our house to drive an hour to see them. And she called our house and was adamant that we could not come at the time we scheduled. All she had to do was say come now and we will do the best we can. Plain and simple. Instead she argued with us and REFUSED to help us out. After that we received a letter saying we were not welcome anymore. No concern for my pets. And they even refused to renew medication for my dog. It was a great place. Until Carol left. Beware of Donna. You might have to find a new veterinarian..no compassion for my pets. And the owner refused to answer my calls to rectify the situation. RUN DON'T WALK to another veterinarian.

The worst. My cat had coughing fits in February so they did X-rays and claimed it was bronchitis. Coughing suppresses and starts again 9 months later, another X-ray. Now they see a tumor. Go to Latham for a scan to see if we can operate and remove the cancer, they see the tumor clear as day on the February X-ray and now it’s too late to operate. My cat has less than a year to live now thanks to Copake.

I have used this vet office for 15 years and just got a puppy. They said because I was separated from my wife I would be considered a new client and they were not taking new clients. I got them to agree to take us and sent an email with puppy info with understanding they would return a call and set up an appointment. After no return email or call I called back and said they had nothing for over a month and I should contact the humane society for the puppies shots. I asked for the phone number for the humane society and they said they had no idea and to look it up online. They set up an appointment for a month later. I went with a different vet that got me in quickly and professionally. I was called to confirm by the Copake vet about my appointment and when I told them I had went with a different vet they replied "Great we really need this" and hung up the phone very quickly. Great vets at the office terrible and rude receptionist!

Best veterinary group in the region, hands down. Vets are compassionate, kind and incredibly knowledgeable. Rates are very reasonable. Extensive practice includes large farm animals. They provide most services, including dental and acupuncture. I've been bringing my cats there for over 20 years. They used to be available 24/7 but not sure they still do that. They also have connections to other specialty practices in the region and state-wide. What's also nice is that you can see any of the vets and they all work together. The staff is as nice as can be. Finally, I am usually seen within a few minutes of arriving. I've never experienced a long wait. Appointments are easy to make and you can get in quickly (except dental appointments get booked up). Best group I've ever worked with..

This place used to be great and I went here for quite some time but over the past couple of years this place has just gone downhill so much. Firstly, when you pull in you have to drive over to a booth and get a walkie-talkie and wait in the parking lot for somebody to communicate with you and tell you it's okay to enter the building. Seriously, what am I 12 years old I have to communicate with you by walkie-talkie. Second, you're a vet that doesn't do any kind of emergency visits. So you only want to take care of my animal when there's nothing wrong with it? What's the point of being an animal doctor if you're not going to handle any type of emergency visits? The people at the desk always say it's going to be 3 weeks before you can get an appointment and if it's an emergency drive to latham. I chose you as a vet based on your location obviously because I'm located nowhere close to Latham but that's where you want me to drive because you're inefficient at doing your job. Needless to say, you lost a customer and I highly doubt I will be returning to your office for anything.

Wow. The receptionist was SO rude. I would NEVER take my animals here. Judging by the previous comment this receptionist has given others attitude as well and clearly by the response the office tries to justify it! Unbelievable!Edit**Again, why would anyone want to take their pets here?? Look at how condescending the replies are to anyone who comments on the RUDENESS of the staff! Crazy! My husband could hear the vitriol in the voice of the receptionist from across the room and he DOES NOT TOLERATE someone speaking to me that way. SORRY, not sorry!

Have been going to this vet for over 20 years. Always nice doctors. Great service. NOW as of June 2021, they will not see my sick cat! They've never seen her before.......no appointments open until August. What a lovely, caring veterinary hospital.

Been going there for 40yrs,The Vets are great..Unfortunately if you have a pet emergency you are out of luck..I called them 4 times over the past 2 weeks about our dog Rocky. He was limping badly and suffering, but they couldn’t squeeze in a visit..When I told the receptionist that we had been going there for 40 years. Her reply was you and everyone else..I called pine plains and Caroline helped us put Rocky to sleep..She said he had bone cancer.. just remember if you have a pet emergency don’t be surprised at the lack of compassion.

Very knowledgeable staff and take good care of your pets. Years ago, Dr. Rasweiler saved my dog when he went to their emergency room. I called to make an appointment for my cat and asked receptionist if she got the message via e-mail that my dog died. She just said “We got your e-mail and we know your dog is deceased”. I know these receptionist do a wonderful job making appointments, answering questions, phones, billing etc. and they are very busy but how long does it take to say “so sorry “. I was surprised, disappointed and hurt. I guess it’s not personal just business.

It was a horror show. Appeared to care less about my dog or me. The dog’s problems were not solved and they blamed me saying I was not following their instructions. Then, when I questioned them they banned me from the facility without even a conversation with one of the veterinarians! Absolutely shameful.I was devastated. I reminded them that since they are the vet hospital near my home that I would still bring my dog in in an emergency if he were hit by a car etc. They said they would not see him. That is such a horrible thing to say and I believe against the rules for being an emergency hospital.I am not the only one this has happened to, so regardless of what they say, be forewarned.

The doctors and staff at Copake Veterinary are simply the best. We're very lucky to have them here. (They follow in the footsteps of some pretty awesome vets as well!). My 16 year -old Brittany Spaniel has made a wonderful turn around under the care of Dr. Duryea. She's so much more comfortable, and I have more knowledge about how to help her.

The absolute BEST of the best! I live 40 minutes away, but insist on taking my sweet babies to Copake because of the authentic compassion, professionalism, and and care they show for animals--they truly understand pets are family too. They understand emergencies. Dr. Saunders has been there for us 100% during our little angel's decline and eventual passing, and I could not feel more comforted and supported from her care throughout. She is a blessing. In other instances, Dr. Rassweiler, Dr. Duryea, Dr. Clay, and Michelle have all been rockstars. Your fur babies are in the very best hands at this veterinary hospital. They are pawsome!
