The have really nice fish, I bought four for a 30 gallon tank that I already had. The staff are very polite and helpful. The prices are average, but the animals are very worth it. Be mindful if you don't have experience research before purchase. Don't make the animals suffer

If I can give it a zero, I would. I received the worse experience of my life. I was interested in buying a talking bird and I asked a worker inside for it and he gave me a horrible response. He told me look at it on YouTube and to come back with money and we talk. I BEG YOU. DONT DO COME TO THIS PET SHOP. You don’t talk to people like that. I am really sad. I don’t deserve this experience when I generally was interested in buying a talking bird. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE

I have been here a few times. The people are incredibly nice and relatively helpful. However I went recently to by items for a filter I own, and when I opened the box , at least 6-10 dead roaches are attached to the brand new filter pieces. I don’t even want to touch it let alone open the other boxes. I don’t have roaches in my apartment but I have seen them various times in the store, there was even one in the tank when I bought my turtles. Please be careful and check your belongings THROUGHLY. Now I have to check my entire apartment. (This is picture is after I shook most of them off into the trash but this big one stayed stuck.)

I went into this place and asked if they had a daphnia culture to feed my juvenile rocket killifish and celestial pearl danios. I knew it was unlikely that they would have them, but I like to support local pet stores when I can. This is the answer I got from the owner, direct quote: "I don't know what that is. I've been in this business for years, and if I don't know what it is, it must not matter." I think those words speak for themselves.In response to the owner's reply: To be perfectly clear, the point of this review is not that the shop didn't have the obscure item. It isn't even that the owner didn't ask if I wanted him to order the item. The point is that he was shockingly rude. Reading over the other reviews, I'm not alone in that experience.

Extremely overpriced. I Bought 1 piece of fish decor for $19.99 that I later saw on Amazon for $8. The owner is rude, the other staff are quite nice and respectful but they will definitely try to sell you high priced items and tell you what you should buy on top of the single item you initially came in there for.

Owner very rude and doesn't seem to have patience to deal with customers, asked him a very simple question about a fish and he was quick to get rid of me over the phone, went in person and really wasn't no difference personality isnt so nice, no customers service not a people person

I was calling I really wanted to buy a parrot I am interested but this man wanted to do it for me one day when I was far away and impossible to get there and today I called again because I want a parrot but he treated me badly and they have horrible service and they lose potential clients What a shame if I called it's because I really wanted a parrot. LAM O I DONT KNOW WHAT IS THE NAME BUT UGGLY SERVICE

This pet shop is ok the animals are well taken care of now the employees are a little confused about what you want they try to sell you to many things but they are helpful,I bought two finches this year they are 8 months old and they are well and so adorable.

Bought a bird here that was clearly sick (yes we knew he was sick, we bought him to help him since they didn't care) I played clueless and asked about the missing feathers and they said they would grow back. We asked why the bird was separated, they didn't want to answer. We asked the breed and the man working (he didn't know we speak spanish), said 3 different names before telling the other worker to just tell us it was an apple lovebird. He then proceeded to overcharge us on items. We obviously bought a few items for the bird to bring home. Once home, i looked at the tags on everything and added up all the items and then added the cost of the bird. Should've been 205, instead he charged us 224. Couldn't go back because the worker didn't even write the items we bought on the receipt when we checked it at home. To top it off, they don't have the recommended bird food but that could be my opinion. However, they charged 30 for a tiny cage that was cheap. It shattered when it fell not even 2.5 feet from the floor. Cage wasnt even worth 15 to be honest. So please don't go here. Horrible place. Man also tried to rush us and make us purchase immediately. Even asked me how am I broke when I look so good. Thats not something you say to someone for any reason. Again please don't come here unless you want to get scammed or pressured into buying an animal without being prepared. UPDATE: We found out they lied to us about his age as well. They said he was around 8-9 months. After a vet visit, they came to the conclusion that he’s actually somewhere between 7-10 years old. Even more evidence to show that they have no idea what they’re talking about.

The owner is great and respectful business man. We had an issue regarding some of his workers and when he found out about it he took care of the situation immediately!. The animals he had were great and we'll taken care of!. We bought a beautiful Bee Bee Parrot and she is the most loving and beautiful parrot!. I would definitely recommend tropical pets to anyone!.

Quality of staff has gone down significantly, only reason it's not 1 star is because of 1 guy who is still cool. Otherwise, poor upkeep and poor storage of the animals as well. Often times look sick as well. SmhI used to frequent this store too but I'll stick to buying my rabbit's needs off Chewey for the foreseeable future, and yall should too

Sold me a sick turtle and sold my fiance a sick turtle after! Like treat these animals right before trying to sell them! Sad that i bought 2 turtles from the street and i still have them! Over a year later! Big and healthy! This place is pathetic!

Amazing pet store. The owner Ben is very knowledgeable of all pets he has in the store. I walked in with my family and he greeted us as if we were family. Needless to say I bought two love birds for my kids and the prize was better than other stores. I will for sure make that my place to go for all my pets needs. I absolutely love this pet store. The owner was so helpful and patient with me multiple times as I came into the shop to ask for help with my aquarium. He helped me save my fish. He clearly explained what I was doing wrong which caused my fish to die. He is very knowledgeable about fish and aquariums. My experience was very pleasant. I have returned several times and the staff have asked me about the welfare of my fish. They also have the coolest little frogs.

I have been coming here for 4 years now. This is a good store for pets. Recently I decided I would like to have mice as pets so I am on a very steep learning curve. These guys are caring and will go out of their way to assist you with issues. They have even given me free replacement mice even though it's clearly posted there's no guarantee on animals since there is always unknowns about them. The place is usually pretty busy so it's best to wait for slow times. Soon as they open I would say. 2 thumbs up!6 flags!

This pet store although quite small had some very beautiful birds. Parrots, macaw, parakeets etc. Owner is nice. Doesnt allow you to stand to long to look wants you to purchase as much as possible. Tends to pile things on without asking. I had to put back a huge bag he picked out of food and get something smaller. I purchased a hamster. They are not hand raised so the one I got was hissing alot. I would not purchase any more animals except food or necessaries I needed for my pet. Quite expensive also.

This independent pet store may be small but they have everything you could possibly be looking for . Whether you have furry pets, exotics or birds you can get all your supplies here . Good selection of animals to buy as well. Friendly service .

Nice, small neighborhood pet shop. They cannot compete with franchise pricing on supplies, but all animals are in very good health and well cared for by the staff. That is unfortunately something that cannot be said of many of the larger, well-known pet stores, where the lives of individual animals, purchased in bulk, are of little concern. They stock birds, fish, several reptiles and small animals (rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits). They also have feeders such as crickets and worms.

I went 2 weeks ago with my husband and bought 3 fishes and they were sick, 1 of them was dead in less than 15 hours and then 4 of the fishes we had for over 1 year were dead as well, I would not recommend this store to anyone. Then they didn’t wanted to give no type of refund or nothing.. bad bad bad business!!! Never again

I'm giving this place a one star, for two main reason: NO MASKS. Customers didn't wear them, staff didn't wear them and the place is really small with narrow aisles (like a lot of independently owned pet food stores). And the birds are not kept properly. That said the staff are helpful and they sell good brands, but I won't go there any longer because of how irresponsible they were at the beginning of the pandemic and how they keep the birds. TO THE OWNERS: I went to your store at the beginning of the pandemic when masks were mandated and no one was wearing a mask who worked at the store this was in 2020. The mandate was only lifted last year.

Fantastic place and my new go-to. Lem was very cool and helped me get just what wanted. The fish and snail I got were super healthy, lively, and active. The owner also came in and was very friendly and welcoming. Prices are very fair. I'm only going to Tropical Pets from now on. One of the best in the Bx. Thx guys and ill back!

Loved the place, I got a hatchling red eared slider from here red and got help right away and picked out my essentials. The turtle is very healthy and lively. Only two problems it was most people did not wear masks and the prices are little expensive. But overall good quality and healthy animals.

Ben helped me pick out some great tropical fish and the fish are very lively and energetic. I love my angel fish he’s growing great and definitely gotta come back to get more to fill up my 55 gallon. The staff super helpful and helped me set up everything without a problem !

I went to the store to inquire about a kitten, at the time they didnt have any but the gentleman said if he could find a suitable cat for me he would help. In a short time he went thru the proper channels to find it. He had the perfect cat for me and my family. We have the best cat in the world. Our new family member. We are forever thankful.

Any issues or concerns are taken care on the spot, I buy all my fishes and equipment here and they always have a wide variety of fish and other animals. A+ service from the minute you walk in.

Great place! Benjamin the owner is very nice and helpful. And he knows his birds. I e gotten Cockatiels from here and he knew exactly which ones are nice and friendly or which ones sing cute. I always go here when i need birds. Def check this spot out. He knows his birds! Forget the other reviews that are bad. This store is busy as hell at times so if hes rushing around helping other people dont take it seriously. All in all, this is the best pet shop in the BX ! I was there over the weekend of March 5 th Benjamin wasnt there but his staff were. The two hispanic younger males should keep their masks on as it is a small store. Thats what Benjamin needa to tell his staff. They need to wear their masks at all times!! The store is too small for people not to wear masks. I drove all the way from Pennsylvania and def dont want to get covid int he Bronx from buying pets, and now i feel sick and fatigued so ill have to do a covid test and this was the only place ive went to all month. So staff here definitely need to keep on their masks!

The store has some good variety but the customer service leaves something to be desired. I walked in to ask if they carry a specific item and was cut off before I even finished my question with a "no". Being from a retail background for many years, I understand that you have other things to do, but I also understand that you have to build some type of relationship with prospective customer. With that being said, because they didn't have my certain item he may have just thought I would not spend money there regardless, so why waste his time? I have five animals and if I would have been treated a little better, I would have considered going back for something else I may need in the future or suggest this place to my clients.

I've been in this store a few times and the boss is very very rude. He does not respect customers. He does not care if you are a buying customer or window shopping, he stills disrespect people. As I was walking out other customers said me the same thing. And as soon as today, I wanted to show their tropical birds to my little siblings and the boss was standing at the door telling me the store was closed (at 5.30). But when I walked by again an hour later, the store was still open. If I could have given no stars I would have. That is the worst pet store I've ever been. And I'm still surprised and amazed that this is the owner treating customers this way.I recommend other shoppers and pet lovers to avoid this store at all cost unless you want to experience this treatment!!! Try any other pet stores which treat customers a lot better, are a lot cheaper and not far from Bainbridge...
