I didn't stay here, but when my boyfriend called to ask a question about our prospective stay (we'd booked a spot semi-last minute due to an influx of hotels being overbooked in the area for the Solar Eclipse) the owner was incredibly rude to us. He'd said we were the 25th people to call, when he claimed the resort didn't open until May. However, it's not obvious on the website, and the way he spoke to us was indecent and rude! I'm sure the place is lovely and I can understand his frustration, but the way he spoke to us is no way to speak to any customer. You couldn't pay me to stay here.

Reviews are correct in how bad they are. We booked the room the night before from their own website and received confirmation email. They cancelled our reservation at 6pm the day of reservation (and we only found out when we got there at 6). As it was peak day, we had to pay double for another room and they were extremely rude even though it was their fault and we got screwed. Avoid at all costs.

First of all the view from the rooms is magnificent!! We were in #9 which is thankfully dog friendly (hard to find dog friendly rooms on the water). The room was spotless and looked brand new. Shiny knotty pine interior , new appliances , full kitchen, and big windows to see the lake. Only thing we missed was not having a coffee table .

Rooms were aimed at guests who'd rather have an extra sofa bed than a desk and some nightstands. No hotel in town has a microwave oven; they all want you to patronize the local restaurants. But the full-size in-room refrigerator is the envy of guests at the Fancy Place down the street.Office staff and I had a misunderstanding, largely because my own travel plans changed due to things not under my control. They resolved it, and this didn't affect my experience. And the housekeeping staff cleans every day!For the cost, the location can't be beat. Easy walk into town, but be careful of motor traffic. Carry a blinker if you can, the way cyclists do at night. And there is lakefront recreation, enough to attract tourists and support a boating company.

Great location! easy walk into town and our room had fantastic views out over the lake. The room was clean and both the AC and WiFi worked very well. Bed was comfortable and the view out over the lake from it in the morning was memorable... So, what's wrong? Accommodations are tiny and cramped, and run down. The bed filled the whole bedroom leaving you to squeeze through a 6" gap to reach the other side. This means there are no side tables or reading lamps. The lounge had just a couch - a rug and coffee table would be a good add (we were in cabin #9). The facilities just seemed tired and in need of repair. Many kayaks are available but they are dirty, broken and (if all the pontoon boats are docked) there's nowhere to put in. We enjoyed our stay, but there are probably better resorts on the lake in the area...

Great location, beautiful property, and less than a mile from Stewart’s. We were there Columbus Day weekend so is was a little cold to take advantage of the outdoor amenities, but you can’t beat that view in the morning. The property/rooms are nicely maintained and a great value, exactly as expected from the pictures. Upon arrival we waited less than 5 min after calling to check in. Captain Dan was a pleasure to talk to (at least my bf and he were riffing about football). We didn’t need assistance after that but it seems he takes on much of the responsibility of running the place so we would assume he would take care of anything in a reasonable amount of time.

Our stay here was AWESOME. The resort is beautiful. We rented a boat and the process was quick and easy. The boats were beautiful and well taken care of. I don’t agree with any of these reviews about the owner.. he was great and we had no issues at all. Don’t listen to these reviews. BE A NORMAL NICE PERSON AND THE OWNER WILL BE NICE TO YOU TOO. Thanks, Captain Bob! We’ll see you next year!

I do t understand the poor reviews. The treatment was top notch! The room was absolutely perfect... clean, updated, comfortable. Captain Bob was friendly, called me in advance of check in to let me know I could come early if I wanted. Kyle who runs the dock was super friendly and personable. Looking forward to my return next summer, maybe even later this year!!

Stay away at any cost!..The owner is a crazy person, will ruin your stay! We are regulars to LG and we stayed there the first time, we brought our boat with us as well, even though we discussed prior to making reservation, he jacked the price up, we didnt feel safe and wanted to leave due to how crazy and violent he got!He had zero issues telling us to leave and refused to refund!Apparently he is known in town, STAY AWAY or you will be experiencing a nutcase!

I had a great experience, I'm a little shocked by the reviews. My cabin was #12, this weekend I am going to stay in cabin #9. I think I'm pretty picky, that is why I'm shocked by the reviews. My stay in cabin #12 was excellent. Nice cool AC, a beautiful view of the lake, I didn't think the bed was uncomfortable. Full sized kitchen, spacious inside and huge deck. A rustic feel to it as well. I also rented a pontoon boat, which was nothing but amazing. Captain Bob was nice to us, maybe a strong personality, but kind and humorous in my opinion. This weekend will be my second time staying at Contessa, and I will write a review once again and share my honest review.

Another great trip in the books! We have been coming to Lake George for the past 10 years and always stayed at the same place. Our group consists of about 5-5 families with kids & teens. This year we had to change locations and booked The Contessa. We read all the negative reviews snd were familiar with Capt. Bob as we had rented pontoons from him previously. All I have to say is we had one if the best times here! Our rooms were very, very clean and the property was constantly being manicured. The rooms had everything needed for your stay. Air conditioning, gas grill, TV, cooking items, etc. There is a totally awesome fire pit on the property and much dock space that fit the 4 boats we had. Our interactions with Bob were pleasant and Christina at the desk was very helpful. We are a resourceful bunch so we never asked Bob for anything. He was constantly around hailing boats, helping customers and doing his daily routine. I would recommend The Contessa but will say this after reading other reviews, don’t book through a 3rd party, book directly through Bob to avoid any issues if needed to cancel or confirm. I think many people who come to the lake are expecting a stay at the Marriot, you need to remember that many of these resorts have been here for decades and you should not “expect” the same experience. Come here with an open mind, give Bob a little respect and enjoy the property. Thanks Bob for a great week at your place, one of our best trips yet!

We pulled up about an hour early for check in- captain bob greeted us but was on a phone call. Shortly after I started the book in process where he told me how to save $$$. He let us check in early (huge with young children) the grounds are immaculate and landscaped daily I feel..pool is clean. Views are breathtaking from anywhere on the grounds. Community games (ping pong, volleyball basketball) a playground and a fire pit. Many gas grills and some charcoal placed throughout. Free Wi-Fi (necessary up here without signal) the housekeeping is top notch..had an issue with one of the couch beds and captain bob had someone out to fix with zero confrontation or issue. Quiet. Able to cook a bunch here (fully furnished) highly recommend and will be back. Captain bob runs a tight ship!!

Writing about this place seems like a waste of time since I didn’t care about all those bad reviews and red flags before my booking.But here I am. I thought the place looked great in pictures and locations seemed almost perfect but started regretting right after setting feet on the premises.We arrived at 2:30pm and saw owner’s daughter at the check in door. She told us the check in starts at 3pm and slammed the door in our face and locked the door. Tried to ask if there’s any restrooms available for us to use but she refused to open the door.Finally at 3:05pm we were able to check in and was told immediately we would have to pay cash or 3.5% more if we used credit card. There were so many other extra fees that wasn’t mentioned in Hotel.com’s description. Ours final amount was at least $150 more than what we supposed to pay.Premium suits for 6 people. 2 queen bed and 1 sofa bed. Guess what Sofa bed was broken. Bedrooms were somewhat clean but everything we were touching in that place was crumbling. The kitchen faucet tilted immediately when tried to use it. Their outside BBQ grill was placed in the yard two flights of stairs down and there was no light. And my oh my the grill was dirtiest grill I have ever seen. We cleaned the grill and tried to grill some meat and guess what the burners were low. The gas canister was full but the flame didn’t go up. So we more like smoked the meat with propane than grilling. We knew complaining would fall in to deaf ears so we didn’t even try. THE WHOLE TIME I WAS BLAMING MYSELF FOR COMING TO THIS PLACE EVEN AFTER ALL THE BAD REVIEWS.Never met this so called Bob and glad that we didn’t.I am sure the owner sees all these bad reviews and does nothing to correct the conditions. It’s a shame what he is doing with such a beautiful place.

We stayed here Oct 1st through the 4th. Beautiful, clean, spacious cabins with new appliances. We were celebrating a milestone bday in the family and rented about 6 cabins. Spectacular views of the lake from all decks of each cabin. Some cabins are pet friendly with security deposit. Overall Captain Bob, who owns the place, and his crew were very friendly and hospitable. They do boat rentals down by the lake from the docks. Very affordable and convenient. We explored the lake on a very roomy pontoon boat with an adequate 115 hp motor. Beautiful day on the lake and great views of the start of fall foliage. About 2 minutes by car to Bolton Landing shops and restaurants. About 15 minutes to Lake George Village. Unfortunately, I think they shut down after Columbus day weekend.

We had a great time not only at Lake George but at The Contessa Resort. We did not rent a pontoon boat from Captain Bob but he did help my husband get us situated in one of the kayaks you can use for free. We had a lot of fun with him and he was very engaging with my 7 year old twins. Needless to say my first attempt at getting into the kayak resulted in me flipping the kayak and with me soaking wet! Captain Bob was laughing as hard as my family and I by this. The views are absolutely breathtaking and our penthouse suite was clean and modern. It was the perfect getaway for a family of four and we had a great time. As for the negative reviews of Bob, if you treat him with respect you will get the same back. We had no issues and were never told that we couldn't drink on our deck or at the pool.

Just checked to see if my original review of this place was still up, and lo and behold, it has flagged and taken down because I spoke the truth about how rude and awful the owner was to my wife and I. We stayed here for a quick 2 days and we couldn't wait to leave. I still have high blood pressure from my wifes interaction with the owner. I would love to tell you the story but Google has liability concerns. Look on other websites for real uncensored reviews...

Bob, the owner, is the detriment of this establishment. It is very easy to articulate that you do not accept bookings for only one night during a holiday weekend and it is absolutely your right. However, to tell me that I should tell hotels.com that I am canceling because I booked one night does not sound like a person who has any business acumen. If you do not want people to make bookings for one night, then they should not be allowed to do so on any of the platforms that allow booking for your establishment. Further more, bob, you could have simply set the price that you want for one night during the holiday or anytime of year instead of forcing customers to pay for two nights! Again, nice place but bob is the detriment of this establishment.

Rented our pontoon from them again and we just love Christina at the front desk! After watching a safety video and paying the reasonable fee, we secured our boat a day before our outing. On our scheduled half day, our son was fitted for a life preserver, Capt. Bob explained to us how to operate the boat and we were soon on our way! Their boats are easily navigable and they accommodate your whole family. Rent the tubes too for a thrilling ride for all ages!! We'll always rent from them when we visit LG!!

This is our second year at the Contessa. Ourgroup is anywhere from 9 to 12 people. Thisyear were in room 1. Very nice room.Just no drawers to place your clothing.Brought it to Captain Bobs attention. The very next morning we had a dresser with six nice size drawers! Very accommodating. Nice man that Captain Bob.

View room #9 excellent however not really stand alone cabins, they are connected more of a motel setting. Cabin remolding interior cabin like. Bed terrible not what a coupe is looking for on a romantic weekend getaway. All was good up to our last morning when we had a mishap with the supplied coffee pot. The handle broke free form the pot smashing on the counter glass and coffee every ware including me very hot. I called Bob right a way, not my problem had to ask for a broom and my wife and I spent the next 45 minutes cleaning the mess while we could see his staff walking the grounds. asked for a replacement coffee pot our reply was I do not have any more you can get coffee down the road if you want some. (View of lake Nice) (Room 185. night ???) (quality and concern for quest after Bob takes your money ZERO) My wife and I have a combined 45 years of customer service and we feel Bob needs some lessons big time. We did love Lake George and all it has to offer. We will be returning next fall for another romantic get away, unfortunately for Bob a 15.00 coffee pot back by his very unfriendly like attitude cost him our business.

Might be a nice place but we will never know. Had a cabin reserved. Got a phone call from one of the rudest men possible telling us we got moved to a different cabin so they could give our cabin to someone paying to stay longer. After expressing how unhappy we were and questioning his business practice we were told "Keep this up and I'm going to cancel your reservation for the other cabin". Clearly that was a sign that our money was better spent elsewhere, so we cancelled and booked elsewhere. Should have know going into it a 2.5 star review on Ylep, we were asking for trouble.

We were there last week with full family, 4 adults and 3 kids. Really enjoyed our stay, although this was our second visit to this resort, but the facilities has gone much better now. Beautiful quite place with scenic view of Lake, right from our cottage deck and windows. No hassle to go anywhere for boat rental.. Captain Bob is right there to help you! Rented 2 hour pantaloon boat and enjoyed free Kayaking couple of days..We personally feel it is very nicely located. Walking distance to the downtown of Bolton landing and reasonable distance on one side to downtown Lake George and on other side to stone caves & Fort. Kids loved this place and we will definitely come back here again next year to meet our friend Captain Bob. Cool guy, enjoyed lively chatters and directions from him :-)

The room was "good" and the view was good as well but the service is worst that what you expect when you pull into a gas station in the middle of nowhere. "Captain" Bob is arrogant and his daughter is even worst. We rented a room because we were only two (my boyfriend and I) and during my reservation call "Captain" Bob told me that I could use any Of the grills. When we get there (after a really rude check-in process) we start using on of the grills and the daughter came out screaming that we didn't have the right to use any grill because we were in a room and not a villa. After my bf confronted them I was called a liar. We also spend all day listening to the "Captain" going up and down in he's golf cart picking up calls from people wanting to rent boats and after hanging up he said really mean things about whoever was calling. NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN! IF YOU WANT TO BE RESPECTED AS A CUSTOMER FIND ANOTHER PLACE WITH BETTER SERVICE. Bob and his daughter don't have any ethics or customer service training at all. I wish I spent my money throwing it into the lake than giving it to them.

IMPORTANT TO READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE VISITING!The view is very nice, the room is okay but the wifi doesn't reach the rooms.However, the entire experience was ruined by the owner, "Captain Bob". I strongly believe that the owner has some sort of bipolar anger issues. The day we moved in we asked him for towels, not only was he not wearing a mask, but he answered us by screaming at us that it's "not his problem" and when we asked again he screamed at us to "get out of his office" and shut the door in our face. Out of nowhere. We had similar interactions with him that day, yet the next morning, he seemed like a completely different person, he was wearing a mask and seemed relaxed.This explains why half of the reviews describe Captain Bob as agressive and half as pleasant, he most likely has some sort of bipolar dieses. So keep in mind that if you visit here, there is a 50% chance you are going to be screamed at with every interaction you have with the owner.

Clean. Beautiful views.immaculate grounds. Great dock space for all the families we came with. Giant firepit for use at night. Rooms have been updated and very very clean. Outdoor decks provide great lake views. Had fresh towels every day. Staff was friendly. 5 minute walk to bolton town. Would highly recommend and will be back next year. We come with about 6 families every year.

a week agoWe were here 2 times. The owner is extremely rude. The first time, the pilot of the fireplace went off. He flatly refused to come and light the pilot even though it was cold. The second time we went, there was a nasty smell in the penthouse cabin. Again the guy was rude and flatly refused to do anything about it. We haven't gone back since.

Booked on hotels.com. Arrived for my reservation and was told he canceled our reservation because they want a two night minimum stay! We drove 3 hours. He said he had vacancies but only if I was willing to pay for two nights. I would have considered it had he not been so rude and unpleasant. We found another place down the road with better customer service. After reading these reviews it appears as though the owner is a real problem. Contrary to what the “gentleman” behind the counter claims, no emails or messages were received by me.
