This park is very close to Thatcher State Park. The bathrooms are clean but could be a little closer to the beach area, you have to walk a short distance to it but it's manageable. The car fee to enter is $7 if you just want to use the beach and use the trails. Visitors must leave by 10pm. If you're camping you have to pay a little bit more. The camping areas have grills, so that's nice and convenient. This is a family-friendly place & your furry friends are always welcome! This is a RitaRannts recommendation location definitely go check it out and I'll see you guys there!

This is a nice little campground near by, but unfortunately they got rid of their park police and no longer enforce quiet hours. If you like to hear rap music, partying and profanity until 1:00 in the morning while you lie awake in your tent because you have no cell service and you know if you get up and leave to report them that you will wake your kids who are somehow able to sleep through all the noise, then this is the campground for you. If that sounds unpleasant to you, than I’d steer clear and take a further ride to a campground that is more family friendly.

Very nice park with a beach, trails and updated bathrooms. We did not have any of the noise problems. We stayed in loop A. 131-139 are somewhat private, but on the small side. #15, 37 and 39 are large. 23 and 25 are close to the beach and nice. That is just a few to get you going!

The teenage girl working the entrance booth was extremely rude. We’ve been visiting the beach for years and never had an issue before today. The parking lot was full. We asked if we could wait until someone left. I’ve done this many times in this past! The teenager refused to let me and my children wait. She was rolling her eyes. Extremely rude and entitled. Disrespectful. You name it!

My Wife and I have started going to Thompson's Lake Campgrounds 3 weeks ago and have been there every single week since and also plan on trying to get out there EVERY week until they close for the Winter which is in the 2nd week of October (I believe, but I'm only like 95% sure that is accurate lol). Anyways, we love it there and while there's a couple a very small things that I'd personally like to see change but overall the experience, fun, and excitement is well worth the cheap prices they charge to rent a Camping spot. They have the lake that you can go swimming in, you can go rent one of their Kayaks or Canoes (or even bring your own because then there's 0 restrictions), go hiking on one of the tons of Trails around the area, go to Thacher State Park which is a stone's throw away from the Campgrounds & checkout the Trails there, or if you're like me and you just want to sit by the fire for a bit relaxing after a long week at work then you can do that too, and so many other things to do. So I highly recommend Thompson's Lake Campgrounds for ANYONE & EVERYBODY who is looking to get away for a weekend, a couple of days, a week, or most of your summer. One other thing I will say is, the Staff is super friendly and super helpful (as much as they can be) and we haven't had a single problem, felt uncomfortable, or felt unwelcomed by ANYBODY!! We hope to see you up there...Nearby activities: Kayak, Canoe, Swimming, Hiking, Camping, BBQ, Yoda, Firepit, Explore, Playground, etc.Safety: It's only 10 mph throughout the entirety of the Campgrounds and it looks like most everyone follows that rule seeing as there's a ton of kids walking around, riding their bikes, or doing kid's activities. There's ALWAYS Lifeguard(s) at the beach watching over EVERYBODY. Staff is ALWAYS driving around, even at night, trying to keep an eye on things. There's usually ALWAYS someone at the Front Booth for any questions and/or to make ANY & ALL purchases like Wood & Ice as examples.Walkability: Absolutely. This seems to be the bread & butter of the Campgrounds because it's a pretty decent size, plus ALL of the Trails that you're able to walk/hike on. That's why the 10 mph rule comes in handy to make sure there's safety for EVERYONE!!!Noteworthy details: I really don't know what else to say except that if you haven't been here to try it out then you don't know what you're missing. The comfortability of the Campgrounds felt immediate, like we had already been going there for years and at this point we already feel like regulars especially considering the Staff is already knowing us by name lol...

Was not impressed with this park. No electric or water sites. The sites themselves were just dirt - no grass anywhere. Very hard to get an RV into the sites. Talked to our neighbour and he said the sites were made for tents but they started booking RVs for the same sites but never changed or upgraded them.

We took our 2 year old on a day trip to the beach. She had a great time at not only the beach but also the playground they have. Both are clean and kept up quite well! The only down side is there is not a bathroom at the beach, so a short walk is required. Also, no garbage cans for beach goers. When we go for the day, we have to drive home with poop diapers in the car.

Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice small system of trails on premises that connects to another larger network (at Thacher state park), and a nature center. Lake is nice to take a dip, or to rent a boat. The sites are generously sized with good fire pits. Reasonably priced ice and firewood. I would recommend this camp site to a friend, or stay here again.

My family and I loved this campground. Bathrooms are super clean with showers at every one. Our site had a clothes line already put up, fire ring with cooking grate and a picnic table. They are really strict at 10pm for quiet time. Has lake/beach, playground, basket ball hoop, and volleyball net for the kids. No electricity at the sites. Some sites are pretty close, others are a nice distance apart. We lucked out by booking online and we absolutely loved our site (93). Had water fill right across from us and two bathrooms close by, although it is a hike to the beach from there. Only downside is the beach is small and gets really packed with no where to sit. With campers and public access there is never anywhere to park on a busy weekend. We will definitely be back!

We used to love coming to this campground. Large beautiful lake to kayak in, nice large wooded sites and clean large bathrooms. However, we decided after 3 camping trips in 2021 that we will NOT be coming back and I am very sad as I love this place. The state police do not patrol anymore and people feel they can party all night long with no regard to families that actually want to sleep at 1am. It was so bad one night we packed up and left. The rap music from our neighbor was awful and when one of the workers stopped at his site and did nothing but hang out with the guy for awhile we realized nothing would change. I felt really bad for the tenters across from us with a little girl. Long and short of it, quiet times don't matter anymore up here. So if you want to party, then this is the place for you.

The best campground thus far I have been to. They have a quiet time but no one was enforcing it when I was there. I don't complain as long as its not boisterous. I heard people singing folk songs and playing the guitar loudly. That really doesn't bother me. We are outdoors and camping. But I for my part just follow the rules so there is no problems later. The bathrooms are clean and the people working there are pleasant. Lake for swimming and pets are allowed. Nice place.

Great state campground with a small beach on Thompson's Lake. The lake isn't huge but the water is very clean and perfect for swimming and small boats. Many people fish either from boats or by the shore. The campground is well cared for and the bathrooms are clean. There is a decent sized sand beach with life guards during the day. They usually have boat rental and there's a nice playground near the beach; however, both are closed due to the virus.During the week, the beach wasn't too busy. They have signs for people to space 10ft. apart which people were adhering to. In the water it was pretty easy to keep a distance.About 1/2 the campground was empty; however, most sites on the loop with lake access were occupied. There are only a few sites were you can clearly see the lake, but many ways to get to the lake quickly. Most sites are spaced well apart, so you don't feel on top of others. They sell firewood $6/bag and ice $2/bag at the front gate; however, that's about it.It's a family friendly campground, so there are quite a few kids... riding bikes, etc. especially around the lake loop. There is a nature center with hiking trails adjacent to the campground. Thatcher Park is a short drive too.

We are on our third day of our four day trip. People are very kindThe wood and ice is quite cheap they sell here . We have a private lot for our tent as opposed to the open field across from us which, is quite nice. Bathrooms are pretty close. And plenty to do for kids . I suggest checking out the campground before reserving online to choose which site you like best and is closest for your accommodations . Also is pet friendly! Overall it has been relaxing and very nice!

Thompson’s Lake Campground is just great! The staff works hard and tries their best to keep the campsites & bathrooms clean and in order. The lifeguards are wonderful yet they do enforce the rules (as they should) for everyone’s safety. My family has camped here over a dozen times in the recent years and we have always enjoyed ourselves. This campsite is a simple setup facility... no electricity or water to the sites. If you’re looking for a full camper hookup, this isn’t the place for you.The beach is great but it is also small... they have to limit the number of day use people so that the lifeguards can safely handle the extra capacity. If it’s a 90 degree July day, you won’t get a day use parking spot if you don’t get there by 10AM... it’s first come, first serve. It’s not the attendants fault if 20 cars show up before you get there... nobody can predict that!Let’s remember this is camping... rain, mud, thunderstorms, humidity, generators, noise... all happen! You need to be patient and you need to be prepared... if they are out of ice & wood, Stewart’s is literally an 8 minute drive away.It can be a lot of work to have a successful camping trip. Prepare for the unexpected and have patience... then you won’t have to complain about the staff or the loud people next to you who are having fun... you can just go ask them courteously what you need them to do for you.And then you can enjoy your stay as well!

Staff was cheerful and helpful. due to impending rain they suggested the site that would remain dryer other than the one we reserved. I have Campton many state campgrounds and I have to say that the campground was very well-maintained bathrooms were new and clean. People were respectful of the quiet hours. Overall a very good camping experience.

This was my first time camping here. I am used to another campground that I have been camping at for years but came with a friend. Was closer to home. our spot was nice and shady but it was right next to a path that people were on all day and night. The path is not listed on the map. Also, no one seemed to be enforcing the generator rule as at least 2 were going all day. Granted it was hot but the fumes from the generator were gross. The bathrooms looked nice however I had a problem with flushing 2 of the toilets. They are supposed to be new. I also could not find the showers. They were not clearly marked. The only shower I did see was in the family bathroom. You need to be careful about where your campsite is as there are only 4 bathrooms in the campground, so depending on where you camp, it could be a long walk. Lastly, I think they need more staff at the park entrance. I had to wait 10 minutes just to check in as the staff was answering questions for someone who walked up to the booth. Also when I went to rent a kyack, I had to wait and then 3 cars drove up and were in line as well. Staff were nice but they need more of them.

There was one girl that was a brat her name was Jewel and she was a meanie. The camp ground is over all very well kept. There is a playground, a beach, and a nature center. The bathrooms are clean, it's dog friendly, and the staff are very helpful. I can only hope that the campers attitudes improve.- Happy Camping 🏕️

Great place for first time campers.. we did the trail's and played on the camp grounds, not one bug bit (15 people BEAUTIFUL noone got bitten). The lake area was nice people social distancing. I have no complaints about camp grounds lady's in the front when checking in were great wish I would have remembered names. I tried to tip them and she would not take the tip. Both ladies made our first step in camping feel great explaining everything and making sure we had our map of the camp grounds. Bathroom clean for the most part. Campers friendly. We had a great time. I will be back.

First time here and we will not be back, only stayed one of our two nights. NOT a peaceful place. Loud neighbors ruined it: loud talking/yelling, loud music, loud generator, so rude... Lots of people on most sites. No staff patrolling to keep the noise down. Which is too bad because it looked like a nice, well-kept campground. Also the loop we were in only had one bathroom for the whole loop and it was a long walk from our site. Would not recommend.

A nice small lake for kayaking. Very family oriented. Most families are practicing social distancing. People weren't wearing there masksappropriately which made us shy away from the restrooms and shower buildings. Luckily we aren't tenters 😂. So if your family is trying to avoid larger crowds this really is not secluded and the beach area is very small.

Nice views. Some repairs needed for bathrooms. Don't depend on camp for ice, but they have it most of the time. Wood is available. Swim area is shallow and great for young kids. Playground and nature center onsite. If you are going just for day at beach, arrive early. Parking fills quickly. No picnic area. Need to go to Thatcher Park for that 4 miles away.

Spent 3 nights there and only had hot water on day one. Given that it was the beginning of September, a cold shower was not welcome! Might as well have jumped in the lake... (This is the only reason for the 3 star review-otherwise 5 stars) Aside from that, the campground was very clean and well maintained. They had both firewood and ice that you could buy at a reasonable price. The nature center was REALLY nice - great for kids and adults -interesting fossils and animals stuffed and alive. The trails are marked really well and easy to follow. As a slight disappointment we were led to believe from the nys parks website that we'd be able to get into John Boyd Thatcher State Park for free as we were camping 3 miles away. A $6 fee but still worth the visit. If you go after 6pm there is no parking fee fyi.

First time there. Close to home for us. Most campsites are very large and flat, some are sloped. Campsite we reserved had swarms of bees. While enjoying a swim on Sunday, a large group of 20 people showed up, took over 2/3 of lake swim area and commenced to be baptized. Otherwise not too bad of a park.

Supposed "quiet time 10pm - 8 am ,however ever night out of a week stay we were woken up before 6am by screaming kids and rude parents screaming and cursing up a storm. ( MEANWHILE OUR KIDS WERE STILL ASLEEP. The grounds were empty and of course a family who reserved 4 campsites with 4 to 5 kids at each have to be right next to ours. It's one thing to have loud kids but when the parents don't try and quiet them down. Shows zero respect for anyone else. Not once did any staff come down and ask them to quiet down. NEVER COMING BACK.
