We adopted our dog (a lab mix) from Pet Connections in 2014, he is now 5 and is the best dog we could have ever imagined. For years I have been an advocate for this shelter in response to the people who leave negative reviews just because it was not "easy" to adopt a dog from this shelter or that the owner is "rude" because they have standards for adoption. If you have a problem with this shelter's adoption process, YOU are the problem, not the shelter. It is the volunteer's and the owner's job to find a suitable, safe home for these animals. They owe you nothing. If you left a bad review because you could not simply waltz into this shelter and leave with a dog, shame on you.I will be the first to admit that the application process was more inquisitive and complicated than I had originally anticipated. YES, they do ask if you have a fenced in yard, how many hours you are typically away from home on a daily basis, if you will invest in the animal's training, if you have children/other animals, etc. This is becoming more and more the norm nowadays for shelters because there are many people in this world who unfortunately should not own animals.A couple weeks after completing the application & questionnaires, we were told that we were 1 of 8 approved to make an appointment to visit the shelter & pick out a puppy. When we arrived at our appointment, there were 4 out of 8 puppies remaining. They only let in ONE family at a time. We were able to socialize with the puppies a bit and make the hard decision of picking one out to take home with us. Upon leaving, they provided us with a bag of puppy food, and all his papers. The puppies were already neutered/spayed, had all their shots, and were COMPLETELY potty trained at 9 weeks. It was $150 to adopt. The owner and her volunteers do a wonderful job at preparing these dogs for their forever homes. They love on them from the day they are born. From the day we brought him home, our sweet boy has never had even ONE accident in the house, and has the absolute best temperament and personality. He is the light of our lives. If you are a RESPONSIBLE pet owner willing to put in a bit of effort toward proving such in exchange for a priceless companion, you will have no problems with this shelter or their volunteers. They are, again, VOLUNTEERS, who put a massive amount of effort into caring for these animals around the clock, raising them for months, fundraising, spending their own money on supplies, etc. The owner is not rude or standoffish, she is simply doing what she needs to do in order to ensure that these animals are going to a home where they will be given the love and care that they deserve. My puppy came from a momma-dog who's owners dumped her off because she became pregnant by a neighborhood dog, after not caring to take the proper precautions (spaying her) and thus not wanting to deal with the consequences. THOSE are the kinds of people this shelter is trying to avoid giving ownership to. Thank goodness for this shelter for taking her in and subsequently finding her AND all her babies good homes. I would adopt from here over and over again. Thank you Pet Connections for giving us our best friend.

When I had an apartment in the country (above my grandfathers house and on a huge farm) I decided to get a friend for my 5 year old Great Pyrenees. I walked in and asked if I could see the available rescues. The owner replied that “these dogs are not here to be played with. Especially if you’re not going to adopt!” I found this strange because...wouldn’t you want the dogs socialized and comfortable with people? So I asked for an application which the owner responded to by shoving a clipboard at me. I filled the entire repetitive application out. One of the first questions is do you rent or own your home. I rented from my grandfather. After seeing that I rented, she immediately wrote DENIED in big marker across my entire application. Had she read further she would’ve seen I put down that I already own a dog and that I rented FROM MY GRANDFATHER. I had already spoke To him about potentially adopting a rescue and he encouraged me to do so. I asked her to read the full application and she was extremely rude to me and told me to get out and that I was not allowed back. Great way to save animals lives, lady.

I recently inquired about adopting a young dog from this shelter. I emailed the owner requesting an application. I received a response the next morning with an application attached along with some further information. I read through the information a few times and had some further questions about some of the requirements. I recently purchased a home in the country with over 6 acres. This property is not fenced and would be insane to fence in. I currently have another 130 pound dog and he is never left outside alone. When I asked about the fence requirement, I received response within a few moments. This is where my unpleasant experience began. The owner responded very rudely asking whether I had read anything she previously sent. She restated that a fence was required and implied that I was not fit to care for this active young dog. I am perfectly okay with her being strict on the fence. That is her right. However the snarky comments along with the very rude attitude was very unexpected from someone running an animal shelter. Her attitude will unfortunately cost some of her animals very loving homes. I go above and beyond to give my current dog the best life possible. This was a terrible experience with this shelter. If you are looking to get another dog adopt. Just not from pet connection. There is many shelters who treat you with respect and are polite to potential adopters.

We have adopted 2 pups from Pet Connection. Each time we encountered zero problems. There's a reason they are very strict with their requirements, and we should all respect them. Running a rescue is unbelievably difficult, financially and mentally. If the owner was rude on occasion she was probably up all night helping a maternity rescue have her pups. We support this organization, highly recommend them, but most of all we love our pups! Thank you, Julie, for all you do.

The owner is a very mean person. They are very unorganized. I am surprised anyone can get a puppy from them. They have a very long application to get a puppy. You must have a tall fence that goes in the ground on a large yard. They are bad at getting back to you to let you know if the puppy is still available. They do not let you pick which puppy you want , you have to be willing to take any of them. Or they will not even let you see them. You can not see them till you are approved. They told me the puppy would kill one of my cats! They also said the puppy will escape my 2 six foot fences! They are not nice. The lady also told me she would never want those dogs. My application did get approved but they still made it impossible to get the puppy. They would not even take $ for a deposit to hold the puppy or let me pre-pay. My veterinarian even said she is not the nicest lady. They do call your vet before you get approved too. Which is good but she should be nice to them. This lady is a reason why someone would go buy a pet instead of rescuing one!!.

My husband and I were denied the opportunity to adopt a rescue from this shelter simply because our indoor house cat hadn't been to the vet for over 2 years. I immediately took our cat to the vet the next morning and of course he is completely healthy. We have a beautiful home in Clarence that's well over 3,000sqft with a large fenced in backyard. We wanted to welcome a brother or sister to our very well-cared for 2yr old vizsla. Our vet gave them a glowing recommendation based on the care of our dog. We take our dog to daycare almost daily so she's never in her crate for over 2 hours and would do the same for the next dog we adopt. For someone who wants to give their rescues a qualified home, this shelter is doing a disservice. They state on their website that they'd like to provide their rescues a home as quickly as possible in order to bring in new rescues... This simply is not the case. I wish it had worked out differently and hope that based on all of the negative reviews they've been given, they might be slightly more lenient. Our vet also said that the woman they spoke with was very unpleasant... It doesn't have to be that way. Very unfortunate.

Despite hearing terrible things about this rescue, I still decided to try to adopt a puppy from them. I emailed them about an application and I didn't even get a response back. They make it seem like they're so desperate to get rid of these puppies, but they don't even bother to respond to people who could actually provide them a good home. I'm glad I found my pup at a different rescue. I have nothing but good things to say about the place I got him from.

Their fb page/website expresses how "DESPERATE" they are for donations and if you haven't read through the rest of the reviews, you'd probably figure out why. Was bared from adopting a dog because of the "no fenced in yard" rule, wouldn't even allow me to fill out the application unless I answered that question. We now have our 4 year old Barney who we adopted elsewhere, he loves to help feed the pigs and ride tractors, sorry about not being able to "fence in" our partner! I'll donate elsewhere.

God forbid you don't spay your previous female dog within 6 months .... they deny you from adopting one of their strays ! Strays that you are taking a chance on because you have no idea who sired the pups who were abandoned in the streets.... imagine owning a beautiful ABCA Border collie who lived a happy healthy 14 years in our fenced in affluent suburban yard of 1/2 acre , yet because we were undecided about mating her until she was 3, that now we are not " allowed" to adopt a female dog because we "waited so long" ... really ?? You think we are going to adopt a stray to breed her ?? I hope you don't have to euthanize any of those 12 puppies because you got your head so far up your butt... I'll drive 8 hours and spend 650 dollars and get a beautiful English Shepherd to be a playmate of our neutered 8 year old English Shepherd thank you ...

I adopted my best pal Annie from Pet Connections. She came to me underweight and scared to death, so I assume whoever they rescued her from was abusive. It took a while, but she is now a well adjusted overly spoiled beagle who runs the house. I can't say enough good things about what Pet Connection does to save these fur babies so desperately in need of a good home. Their adoption fees are so incredibly reasonable compared to the ASPCA which tells you they are just trying to find these pets loving good homes, they aren't in it for profit.

Wonderful experience adopting here. The owners screening process for the dogs ensures that they are going to a good home that is capable of taking care of the animal. The care she expresses for each dog is reflected in this screening process which ensures that these animals in need, do not end up in a shelter (due to irresponsible owners) ever again.

I got denied the women that emailed me was very close minded, and not very understanding about anything. The funny thing is my older dog is from the same place, im not sure why i couldnt adopt the second time. Im giving this five stars though because i found a puppy offline from an adoption center and shes perfect ive had her for 4 months now and is one of the most well behaved puppys ive ever had. If your looking for a puppy this isnt your only answer there are other places so dont worry if she denies you. My vet also told me the women wasnt very understanding especially on the concept of crate training as she believes its a punishment which was one of the main issues i couldnt adopt because she said 2 hours was to long for a dog to be in a crate.

The owner was extremely rude for no reason. Totally bad experience that has made me decide that I will never go to a rescue again. I will purchase from reputable breeders from now on. After my bad experience, I bought my family a pug, he is the best dog we ever had. Trained perfectly and we have no fence. Keep away from this place .

Filled out an app (which is repetitive, long, and poorly written). I'm a great candidate that is ready to adopt. They responded back immediately after submitting saying i'm too far (2 hours away). Their app has no restrictions on distance nor does their site.I politely accepted their reason and suggested to update the site/form to show their restriction to not only save future adopters' time but their time too. Their immediate response? "Don't contact us anymore".Their litters will have a tough time finding a home with their attitude - these are the type of adoption agencies that push people to breeders. They're supposed to be a solution, but end of being the problem because of a chip on their shoulder.

I adopted our little girl from here in May 2019. I have nothing but praise for Julie and her Rescue. I have supported them prior to adopting and will continue to do so because of the wonderful work done there.

Completely unprofessional correspondence and attitude. I inquired about the rigidity of the fenced yard requirement. I have a sizeable yard (5+ acres in a rural setting, on a non-busy street) and have cared for many dogs without them getting hit by cars or running off. Her response was condescending and disrespectful, it sounded as if she felt I was an idiot. If you objective is to find these animals homes, you won't do that with this kind of unprofessional and insulting behavior. If you're looking for a new pet, go elsewhere.

Terrible. This woman lied to me multiple times. First she said she had no idea who i was after giving her mine and my husband's names, our phone numbers, address and email address. She then proceeded to bash me in the fence i did have....um....i thought she didnt know who i was yet she knew exactly where to get one of her spies to "peek" in my back yard. She then told me that i had erased the part of her application that specifically said in bold print about the fence. Umm....wrong again. You cant erase computer ink dumbass. Her biggest problem was that there was a garden inside the fence. Since when has having a garden been bad for a dog? I basically told her to go pound sand and that they missed out on us big time. Those poor puppies. Someone should investigate her a lot closer because it doesn't appear as though she really finds homes. It's like she's queen of the world and I won't kiss her a$$. I will return to a breeder for my baby's companion. Again....those poor babies. Stuck with her forever. She's a miserable you know what. And to think I was warned about her and didn't listen.

if your looking to get a puppy from pet connection , don't waste your time if u do not own a house .No where on website does it state you need to own a home for adoption. Its doesn't matter if land owner said was okay . I wasted my families time on filling out a four page application. Put this useful info on your website regarding this issue .

Very, very unpleasant owner - she is rude and disrespectful to both potential customers and her volunteers. There are so many other reputable shelters in the area, don't waste your time here. It's a shame that the good work with animals cannot be expressed to fellow human beings - we had a miserable experience there.

Both of my dogs are from this rescue. I can't say how great they are to the animals which is obvious by their health and disposition. I'm glad they care so much about the animals and finding them a permanent home and not just cycling them through shelters.
