Every child's dream, a day trip aboard the chug chug train ! The DURR was a surprisingly good experience, and brought back childhood memories of going to the railway yard to watch the steam and diesel locomotives. The carriages take you down memory lane and the rocking motion of the train lulls you into a stupor. The open cars are great, especially to see the panoramic views of the Catskill mountains and the occasional passage of a group of butterflies as the train meanders through valleys and creeks. We had a picnic on the train, and our 3 year old enjoyed the ride immensely.

At first I was a little disappointed. We paid a decent amount foe a ride on "Thomas the tank engine" which lasted maybe fifteen minutes. The bathroom on the train was leaking from the ceiling in a way I can only describe as Titanic style. However, the activities OUTSIDE of the train were phenomenal and totally worth the money. I get that technical issues are a thing, and I'm just glad that my kid had a blast overall. I'd definitely visit again.

Was a very fun get away for the wife and I. It was an old school steam engine train ride through upstate New York. The scenery was great. The food and the staff was great. A good relaxing day, would like to get back for the train robbery show.

Wonderful vintage railroad right in the heart of the Catskills, great people keeping the best parts of our history alive. Definitely check out their website for special events they have throughout the year.

A fun ride to take with the kids. For comfort, the rear two cars are well-lighted and upholstered with velvet and AIR CONDITIONED! Very nice for the summer heat! While there is a restroom aboard the train, and portapotties at the destination station, I recommend using the stall at the originating station. Expect about 2 hours round trip.

We sat on an open-air flatbed car and enjoyed the breeze as we rolled through the countryside. It felt great! This is a must-do for families visiting the area. I wish it was longer, and actually went higher into the mountains, but I really can't complain.

Went with a group and enjoyed the scenery and the people who we dined with. The negative aspect was the tortellini primavera which was, according to my wife, like glue. Many passengers didn’t finish the meal. The beef burgundy was ok. Service was very friendly and nice. They provide water, tea or coffee so you may want to bring your own beverage. We were in the upper level which was comfortable and provided great views of the countryside.

One of the most boring train rides I've ever been on. The scenery was terrible. The train stopped randomly multiple times. It was not fun. Would not recommend wasting the money to go on this train ride. The atmosphere of the ride was tacky and cheap. The guide rarely checked in or added any interesting facts either. It was just a really bad experience all around.

Update: We went and had a nice time. The staff was friendly, the train was comfortable. The route wasn't as scenic as I had hoped but it still made for a nice outing.Update: I finally got a response via email and then a phone call from a nice individual. I got my questions cleared up, I will update again after we have what I hope will be an enjoyable train ride =)I can't get in touch with anyone who works here. I've been trying for over a week. Called 4 times, left two messages and an email. I'm trying to clarify something I saw on the website prior to booking and I haven't been able to get any help. I'm still going to check this place out though and I will update if the company redeems themselves.

The 1 1/2 hr ride lasted 45 min, the catered dinner mediocre at best, the train never went faster than a quick jog, probably because of the poor condition of the track bed and we didn't travel more than 5 or 6 miles total. There were NO scenic views unless you consider a golf course "scenic". There are apparently other rides that are scenic, but the dinner ride is a total ripoff at $96 for a couple. It's not readily apparent, but this is a non profit organization and maybe you should should cut then some slack because of that, but that's no excuse for false advertising.

We were taking photos here for a friends wedding and the after about 15 to 20 minutes a manager came out and said this is private property and we are not allowed to take photos. He said that it was a non for profit organization and that if we gave a $200 donation to him in cash right then and there he can let us get by and continue to take photos. We told we just paid for a wedding and he said oh well that's expensive so you must have it. We immediately left. He was rude, condescending, and I would recommend no one go here ever. You are better off at the breakfast dinner a few blocks up in which the train drives right in front. They have good food. Only take cash or check but it's better than this station and the lake next to it is beautiful.

I loved the two trips I did which included the Train Robbery and barbecue and the Excursion I did the day after. I look forward to coming back the following year to do the lunch in the Dome on the Rip Van Winkle flyer if possible and I'm looking forward to doing a trip to Roxbury and the Catskill Scenic Trail and or a trip on the new planned route for next year.

Wonderful time riding the steam train Viscose #6 engine on Steam Weekend. It was our first time riding this railroad (not our first railroad), and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I contacted the company through both through their website contact form and facebook on a weekday morning with my questions about the trip (before purchasing tickets online), and received prompt and informative responses to both inquiries within a couple hours. (It says on their website they are not staffed to answer the phone on weekdays.) We were naive to steam engines, and found the experience fascinating. I would recommend not wearing your favorite white pants, as the smoke can blow around when you're enjoying the open air cars, or there is inside seating as well. Our 4 year old loved the whole thing. There are real railroad crossings (this was of utmost importance to him) and this steam train ride lasted about 1 hour. We will definitely be back for the Christmas train.

On Saturday June 30th, 2018 I visited the Delaware & Ulster for the first time. I have to say I was VERY impressed with the operation. The railroad itself was in great shape (with on-going track maintenance), and the equipment also seemed very-well kept. The scenery was also great. At first I thought the railroad was going to be a tunnel of trees, but it opened up and there were some wonderful views. This was one of the few places I've been recognized for my patronage. At the run-around, myself and two friends were invited up into the cab for a ride. A big thanks to the volunteers and staff of the Delaware & Ulster Railroad. I cannot wait to go back and visit.

Disappointing. The all-white lunch was as flavorless as it was colorless (chicken Marsala) and that was the best part of the ride. The train speed never exceeded a moderate jog, only went maybe 10 miles and wasn’t scenic at all. Not worth $48 a person! The roadbed is in such poor shape the train swayed and rolled like a boat in a storm. I was afraid we had derailed when I lost my cutlery.

I used to love the Strasburg RR in the PA Dutch country. Well, I had much more fun on this train. The outdoor car was the best experience. Riding through nature and the small towns, was 2nd to none. Staff was nice and informative. We stopped here while visiting Hunter Mountain.

I reached out to Wes C, the director of the DURR in mid October 2020, I was planning to propose to my girlfriend and I thought it would be cool to charter an old dining car and have a picnic we sat and watched the Autumn landscape go by. I wasnt sure if this was even possible as the DURR is listed as closed due to COVID.After a few emails with Wes, It became clear that not only was it possible to rent out a railcar and the train but it was surprisingly affordable! I was over the moon! Wes was very clear in his communication and almost more enthusiastic about my upcoming proposal than I was.Wes contacted the volunteers with whom he works, to schedule a day to open the station and move around the trains, clear the tracks, etc. and generally prepare for our scheduled visit . In the meantime I went ahead and purchased the ring and some snacks and a cooler and my girlfriend and I drove upstate to Arkville. When the moment to set foot in the station arrived, i was more pleased than I had anticipated- The staff were warm and considerate, they had placed sanitizer stations strategically throughout, they followed all protocols and they were so friendly you could see their smiles even through their masks.Wes gave us a brief rundown of what to expect, where the bathrooms in the station are, where we were headed, what time we would come back, what we would see along the way and some information about the train itself and then we sat down and unpacked our picnic in the rear of our very own, historically preserved dining car!The ride was smooth, we had great fall weather and as we chugged along through the town of Arkville people on the street were waving to us. It was really cool because it felt like we were celebrities or something, having the whole car to ourselves!I know Im kind of going on and on here, the point is, we had a fantastic and memorable experience, the engagement went well and now my girlfriend is my fiancee. The experience that the volunteers at the Arkville train station/ Deleware Ulster Railroad crafted for us will remain fondly in our memory for the rest of our lives.I am so grateful to them and to Wes C for going out of his way to help me make this happen. When this Covid stuff passes, my Fiancee and I cant wait to go upstate again and jump on one of the DURRs famous Murder Mystery Train rides!Huge thank you to Wes C and all who volunteered to come in on a Saturday to make our engagement possible! The people at DURR are one of a kind! Gems! If you are on the fence about checking out the DURR dont be! They are absolutely Wonderful!

Not worth it. The views are mostly of run down buildings. The hills are further away and you never get near them. The dome top on the train seats less than a quarter of the total passengers so don't plan on sitting there. The food was not particularly good. All and all a waste of time and money.

Train to Roxbury: Mostly great experience. A blast for a train loving 3 y.old son. Yes, there's diesel smoke; don't take it on a very hot, windless day and you'll be fine. My main issue is with the rush at Roxbury: Why allow only a few minutes there, while the locomotive switches sides?? There's not enough time to spend at the depot museum alone, not to mention also seeing the locomotive hook up. Give half an hour, let people wonder a few blocks to Roxbury main street! Sell more snacks and souvenirs at the museum to make money. Let people stretch their legs. Many reviews commented on "filthy" train cars; they're not perfectly restored (only some windows still open, for example), but they were sufficiently clean and comfy. Open cars more than make up for it (watch out for slippery decks after the rain). Careful with finger pinch points on the moving ramps between the cars; my little one got his finger pinched there. The route is surprisingly scenic, especially with swollen rivers and ponds after prolonged rains - forest, water, wetlands, distant hills; road crossings, farm cows and wild herons. We also had a great time walking along the tracks in Arkville exploring the old rusting locomotives and carriages after everyone was gone.

I loved the ride as in years past I would come here with my Wife and Daughters and enjoy the Fall Foliage. Now, of course, I came back here to reminisce about times past and memories long forgotten.
