Tried to adopt but nobody knew what was going on, didn't call us back to let us know if we were allowed to see the dogs, The people there were liars. But I rated this 2 stars because they did actually listen to my father's story to why were adopting and what we were looking for and humane societies always have a good word from me but this place is just impossible.

I’ve had Ruby for a little over a year now. She’s literally the best thing to ever happen to me. Thanks for that.

I’d like to start out with the fact that I had adopted from here in September 2020. It was a simple process and I was approved in a day. Let’s fast forward to the present time. I submitted an adoption application for a dog on Wednesday night. Thursday one of my references was called. I also received an email about veterinary services and I respond. Saturday night I send a follow up email about the dog asking how my application is going. Keep in the back of your mind I HAVE ADOPTED A DOG HERE BEFORE. Sunday I receive a phone call that my second reference hasn’t answered and to have them call. I then check my email to see the dog I’m inquiring about has an approved application and a meet the next day. I respond saying if the dog has been adopted, I’m not interested anymore. (I will attach my email as I wasn’t very happy). I have YET to hear back from the humane society on my email. I have donated to them, adopted from them and some how I’m getting the run around. I wonder if they forgot about the wonderful gift basket(picture attached) my husband brought in from us as our Christmas donation. As a previous Adopter and donor, I’m ashamed that I’m being treated like a criminal.

Wonderful place, wonderful people. The finest cat I have had the honor to share my life with in the last 6 decades was a rescue we got from them. He's been gone 7 years, but I will forever be grateful for them saving him. Pulled out the check book a few minutes ago...

My cane Corso decided to slip her collar & take a stroll and ended up here for a few days until I was able to get her released through the town, registered, and get her rabies shot. This place to my surprise handled EVERYTHING for me, all I had to do was go pay. this place was absolutely AMAZING. They treated my baby with so much love and I’m so grateful for them for keeping her safe/fed/sheltered while I got the funds and transportation together to get her home. Thank you Walden Humane Society keep doing God’s work ❤️

I did not feel welcomed there. I recently visited after filling out an application. I am an adult living with my parents. My mother also filled out an application because we were looking to adopt together. They are open until 5. I showed up at 4. I understand places like this are short staffed and I showed up an hour before closing, but I waited 15 minutes before anyone even saw that I had arrived. I came to ask some questions about a specific dog. Most staff were friendly but one woman in particular was very rude. People were putting animals away. Their hours online should be listed to 4 if they do not want visitors after 4.She made it clear that they closed in an hour and started interrogating me. I repeated information that was in my application and she said that my mother needed to be there because she is the home owner and needs to give consent. This was frustrating because my mother filled out the application. That should have been enough for consent. I was then told every member of the house would need to have a visit with the dog in addition to every animal already living in my home.I understand shelters want the best for their animals but this place made it very difficult to adopt. On top of that, the woman was so unwelcoming and treated me like I was stupid and not fit to adopt. So many animals need to be adopted and this is not right. This is unfortunately not the only place where I was questioned harshly from the beginning. I have had pets for 20 years and they have always been happy and healthy. I am just trying to give animals a loving home and some places seem to think that animals are better off in a shelter than in my home.I ended up at a small rescue in Pawling that pre-approved mine and my mother's application within 2 days, answered all of our questions quickly online, and were very friendly. I went alone to meet my new puppy and took him home that day. The staff there were friendly and cared so much for the animals. Will never visit Walden Humane Society for pets in the future. There are better places out there.

I went there with my daughter and begged her to leave. I've never seen so many dogs underweight. Pit bulls who I'm very nervous to be around crying and jumping up on the fences to be patted or most likely to be fed. It was the saddest sight. It was over 90 degrees out and the had no water out. I went to the pet store and got dog food to donate to them. I hope it fed those poor animals who left me heartbroken

The adoption process was waaaay too difficult, and the one lady that worked there was very rude and had a nasty attitude. She acted like me and my at the time boyfriend were supposed to know everything; it was our first adoption. I would never go back there or recommend this place to anyone. I felt very uncomfortable the entire time I was there. Get better employees that will actually treat people with kindness, patience, and respect.

Tried to adopt a cat twice, the first time they gave the cat to another family, even though my sister did volunteer work for them for several months, and the second time I submitted an online as well as a physical form (in the physical one clarifying that I already filled the online form and it was just in case), received an email saying that I should be getting a response in 7 business days, that was almost 2 months ago, never received anything, not a call, not an email, nothing. This is really a shame, because you have someone trying to adopt an animal, but you make it so hard that people end up with no option other than buy a pet.

This place is not fair to people. They give dogs that’s cost a lot that someone might have give to them due to their living situation like the boxer puppies to their friends or family of the people that works there and the people that try to adopt and met all the requirements don’t get them

I rescued a cat that we named Mr Grayson from the tough streets of Newburgh in May 2021.He first showed up in the spring of 2020. His ear was clipped, so we knew he was a neighborhood cat. He was extremely affectionate and would come around at least once a month, and once he even got inside. I wanted to take him in, but my family had just moved and we had a lot on our hands and we had Mitsy, a dog that we rescued 10 years ago who didn't like the idea of Mr Grayson wandering into the house.A year later, after that harsh winter with all the snow, he shows up again, in May. He was very sick so I scooped him up and took him to the vet. Too make a long story short, I fostered him by keeping him in my home attic office. Mitsy still in no way wanted him around, but I nevertheless kept him with us for 8 months until he was healthy and happy and recovered from his previously stressful life. He is now the most well behaved cat who wants to spend 90% of his time purring and having his head scratched while sitting in my lap. I've had 6 other cats over my life and he is easily the best one by a long shot. If not for Mitsy, I would have kept him. Finally, the humane society found a slot to take him in. Please give Mr Grayson his forever home. You will not be disappointed!

One of the staff went out of her way to find me the perfect cat. He is a 2 year old black cat who is so loving and sweet and smart. His name was Peter. I changed his name to Pele' after a legendary soccer star. He was the black Pearl of Brazil. We found it to fit his personality and agility and look. I'm so grateful. The manager was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Thank You!

This shelter takes excellent care of their animals. I’ve adopted two kitties from here and both of them are the sweetest and most loving girls. This is a great place to look for a furry friend.

I have adopted many cats in my long life and this was probably the best experience I've ever had.The staff is dedicated both to the animal and the person seeking to adopt. They could not have been nicer and the facility was clean and well run.

If I can give 0 stars I would. I'm only writing a review so others can hear my experience and my kitten's story. I purchased a 3 month old kitten (phantom) from the adoption center in petsmart. Not only is it hard to find out any information over the phone but the volunteers RARELY ever follow their hours that are posted. The kitten purchase/paperwork was quick and fairly easy. I brought the little guy home with my girlfriend and welcomed him to my other 9 month old cat (Ghost). Phantom adjusted very well and within the second night, we witnessed how incredibly loving he was. Within the first week my girlfriend had noticed phantom had black dirt in his ears. She immediately assumed it was ear mites. Without jumping to conclusions I did some research. Looked the exact same. We called numerous times and they assured us that it wasnt it and continued to deny any speculations. We asked to speak to a manager and she had also denied because "if this kitten has it then every kitten at the adoption center would." All she said was "hey listen if it is or you feel like it is just use these oils to clean it." Fast forward a long week Ghost now had it. We were certain but they denied and said we can come in if we wanted but why if they arent a Vet..Now that same week Phantom had also begun to develop a swollen stomach. It seemed almost bloated like a full stomach nothing serious at first. We began to limit his food slightly and monitor his intake. His stomach night by night began to expand, and so did our worries. He also seemed more sluggish and had labored breathing. We immediately scheduled a vet visit for that same week. We called walden ahead of time and they assured us "nothing should be wrong, he probably either is snacking without your knowledge or is having issues with his stool" that "he had no issues and had a check up when they received his litter". We took phantom to the emergency hospital, Flannery in New Windsor NY. They took phantom after we explained everything and had us wait in a room for the vet. The vet then came in with a very "I'm sorry" face. She explained that just by the look of Phantom alone and with her 20 years of experience, he had a very serious and fatal disease called FIP, had very few days and we might be looking at putting him down.We then after the hurt decided to handle it the next day and at least let him enjoy his last night. He had a very very difficult time breathing but still cuddled with us and started to go under and come out from under the bed. Like he wasnt sure as to if he wanted to have alone time or be loved more. We stayed up till 6 am and slept till we woke up at 8am. Phantom was under my bed dead.I'm sharing his story not to bash the place I'm sure theres excellent people that work there who care. But as a whole the place lacks actual care and integrity. Shrugging off issues and phone calls from clients are completely unprofessional and terrible. Had this kitten for just a month but we gave him love that wouldve lasted a life time. We understand that the disease was most likely something he was born with as explained from the vet, but from the moment we got him to the end they still seemed to literally not care at all, just an "oh I'm sorry". From the ear mites to any question we had we recieved lack of attention and honest care. Please save yourself the trouble and not ask them any questions or help. If you could entirely find a different adoption center or even better, wait for a friends cat or someone local to give birth. That way you KNOW where the kitten is from and how healthy it is. It's a shame to the animals that have no choice but to be with these "volunteers".

I would not give a star at all but 0 stars was not an option. We brought our 17 year old cat here to be cremated over a month ago. We have left many messages about our ashes with no response. Family had to show up and find out they discarded our cats ashes. Seriously the people in person and on the phone were truly unprofessional! This was our cat, and to treat the situation as if it an oops is disgusting . Will never donate, recommend or go near as give old stuff here. We have nothing . No cat, no ashes! Lesson learned.

We got a brown chocolate lab about a week and a half ago. The dog had diarrhea. We took him to the vet and turns out he had hook worm and a bacteria. The Walden Humane Society said they aren't paying and that we are on our own. We decided to take the dog back because he was sick. They refuse to give us our $270.00 back. They said we signed a contract and they were keeping our money. I am now out $350.00 for a sick dog that I took back a week later. They are keeping my money. Shame on these dishonest people. Please beware to anyone who does business with this dishonest establishment. Once they have your money you will never see a cent of it back. They don't care for the animals at all. They just want the money.

I am a regular financial supporter of the Humane Society of Walden. These folks are doing their best on a limited income.I appreciate their mission and goodwill towards all animals. Please consider giving them a look and a few bucks .

This place is a disgrace. As soon as you walk in it smells so bad. There is a lady with black hair that works there that is nasty as can be what a severe attitude I think her name was Lisa.. Very ugly person and attitude she should be working out back with the animals instead of running the place she runs people away... Never going back that place should be investigated for animal cruelty with the smell alone

They’re holding my grandmas dog hostage, they just want to adopt her out and make a buck. The dog was taken from my grandmothers property, shes microchipped, and they STILL won't let my grandparents take her home! This is ridiculous and has to be illegal. She wasn't considered "lost" or "stray" if she was still on their property! "Humane" is not any kind of term that can be associated with this place.

Rescued a dog from them, they are friendly, they love the dogs and cats they have there. They take wonderful care of all the animals. If you want to rescue a dog or cat, go to the Humane Society of Walden.

I understand that there are bad people that will mistreat there pet, but I fell like they make you jump through to many hoops to even see and adopt a pet, I fell bad for the animals because it takes a wile and it and narrows down the people who would what to adopt,. And the employee we spoke to had an attitude when I handed her the application to potential adopt.
