Just a fine grocery store, but the checkout today was a bit crazy. They had one checker with a long line, and the self check line literally went all the way to the back of the store. If they aren't going to have checkers they should install an adequate number of self check stands.

Being a vegan who enjoys some store-bought/pre-packaged foods (think sausage, cheese, chicken nuggets, cream cheese, etc.), I tend to feel a little apprehensive about what sort of selection, if any, that I'll find in a new-to-me grocery store. However, in my first visit to Smith's last night, I was thrilled to find a large and diverse array of ready-made vegan foods! I saw several of my go-to favorites (e.g., Impossible, Gardein, Beyond), as well as a LOT of items I've never seen before! (Philadelphia makes a vegan cream cheese?? Yes, and it's delicious!)Plus, most items were fairly priced (although I know that can be subjective). At a glance, this Smith's location also has an expansive and well-stocked floral department, as well as bakery (where I picked up some tasty soft pretzel nuggets and blueberry bagels). I was also delighted to find a diverse array of southwest foods. The cashier and bagging assistant who helped us were the icing on the cake - friendly and kind. Thanks, everyone!

Smith's app does not work inside store. Which means the advertised price on the shelf is not the price, because you need some a$$hole "digital coupon" which you would have to go outside to get. Lines are always long and staff visibly tired. Deli shuts down before I get off work @ 6, so I have never been there. Remodels have made it hard to find anything and very unintuitive. I shop elsewhere but every once in awhile I go in to see if they got their act together. They have not. Whomever decided to put coupons in an app should be pilloried and banned from any major decisions for life.

If you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, stay away from this place!!! I was actively discriminated against for being trans. Went in to buy groceries and beer for my trip, (I'm from the west coast) and the cashier tried to deny me service based on the fact that I was trans. When I told her that I was trans she said "to each their own, I have the right to refuse you at my own discretion." I had to have the manager sort things out for me. I'm never coming back. The cashier in question has black hair and a lot of makeup. She works the self checkout. She's openly a blatant bigot and should be fired. I thought Taos was an accepting place. Guess I was wrong.

First of all, the employees are great. The food selection is what you expect, but usually the produce section is well stocked and above average in that department. I do like the specialities they have in the seafood dept.Update on January 29, 2024:Unfortunately I had to lower my rating from 5 stars to three stars because the pharmacy is in such disarray. The service is terrible and not one time in the past year have they had my prescriptions ready. They want you to wait (up to 2 hours) while they fill it even though you may have called it in days before. If you come back even a day or two later...guess what nothing is ready still. It takes at least two or three trips on different days and MAYBE you will finally get it. One of the pharmacy techs..a Spanish lady with dark glasses gives the impression she doesn't care whatsoever.

Open until 2 pm on Thanksgiving! They advertise, I arrive at 1:30pm and they tell me they are closed!Worst market in Taos! One time they decided that they couldn’t give coin change and would round up!Too many problems to list!Albertsons or Cids are the best markets here in Taos!

Lines halfway up the freezer aisle for the self checkout because of draconic AI anti-theft measures that make sure you're not holding anything in your hand by the bags. Also they only keep 2/3 of them open and don't open the others on demand.

Will not be returning. Had a single bottle of champagne and because my license was still vertical although perfectly legal, she refused to sell to myself or my husband!

This was our first time visiting the store. We come to Red River once a year. Always needing groceries, we walked into Smith’s clean & roomy store. The best came when we were checking out with Richard, a very nice kind man. He offered us your discount card. We will be back next year to buy our groceries for our stay here. Thank RichardPamela & Gary Lake Texoma, OK

From the east coast. This is Kroger to us. We were so happy to find this store & use our Kroger card for discounts! We were able to get our salmon & shrimp too! ♥️

It's a pleasure to shop here. They're (mostly) well stocked, it's clean and inviting. The sushi is fresh, the deli always offers a great range of prepped foods and the staff are usually helpful. Parking, getting a cart and check-out can be dicey.

Well stocked, well lit, and clean. Great produce and fresh bread selections. Meat dept looked clean and well stocked. This place has a much better selection than the Albertsons down the road. I will definitely return.

Closed the door in our faces as we were walking up at 11:30, 30 minutes before closing time, and told us we couldn’t come in

Always nice to come here. Staff was on hand and proactive in moving along the aggressive panhandlers. Always clean and has everything I need in stock plus more.

I feel like crying after spending numerous hours trying to place an order for pickup. I checked my Wi-Fi connection, and had 5 bars. When I showed up,( yes I was a little late due to the hideous ordeal I experienced),it was 8:40. I wrote that I'd arrived. My order was supposed to be ready between the hours of 8-8:30pm. I showed up at 8:40, messaged that I'd arrived and was parked in space 6. My elderly and disabled mother and I waited for about 20 minutes after I received a response claiming my order would be "right out". I finally decided to go inside, and waited until about 9:30 before the cashier spoke with her manager and a man with a cart of groceries that she spoke with(who appeared to be agitated to be pushing in a giant 🛒, seemed to be the exact order I struggled for the best part of my day to place, btw) and was told to return in the morning, as the man who is in charge had left at 9pm. What the 😭? I'm so hungry! I'm a human being too, and would truly appreciate to have food, as it's never in my best nature to begrudge another of what is deemed necessary to survive. I'm literally in tears as I write this, and it didn't help that when I saw my mother walk in shaking! She was terrified! A fight broke out between a male and female and they had a young child and a puppy. There was broken glass becausethe little girl thew a bottle proceeding being a witness as the woman was shoved on the asphalt by a male. I'm sick of it!This Business has had multiple crimes committed in front of the store, etc., Maybe that's just where things are decided by the town to have even the Police department "forget" to clean up crime scenes. I suppose I'll just let it all go and cry when I'm hungry instead of dealing with the horrific ordeal of trying to understand Kroger . I've got loved ones who work for this company, as well as people who I consider enemies. I'll tell the truth, and it's that I wouldn't wish any of this on anyone! Smiths should've been out of business long time ago, given the reality of what the circumstances expose the community to. Maybe the lake shouldn't have been covered! It's pretty much become a do I want to eat it do I want to think I am going to eat and instead be left hungry and possibly shattered by the results of this place being allowed to serve as a new "killing fields". SMH :(

Horrible experience at Smith’s pharmacy Taos- went in to fill vacation prescription sent in by my primary care provider. Pharmacist accused me of taking too much of the medication, stockpiling the medication- belligerent, hostile, wouldn’t listen to me or believe me. Cashier also agreed w him, said “lucky he is filling ot for you at all”… not treated like a human being, no respect, no care, no willingness to listen, just the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I will never go back to this pharmacy. Wait times are ridiculously long too, always understaffed. Cashier said this man is “their best pharmacist”… well I fee sorry for Smiths pharmacies then.

I like shopping at smiths and I shop there all the time but sometimes I see expired food put on the shelves. Examples: maricle whip, ice cream, milk. Even candy. Expired food up to two weeks past It's date. I just wish the employees or even a manager would just thoroughly check the dates before putting food on the shelves, because not everyone check's dates on their food. I had an upset stomach and was vomiting a few weeks ago for up to 8 hours and believe it was due to the expired food. So please check the dates.

Please open all of your self checkouts!!!! You have like two registers open.... please pay better and hire some employees your store can run properly....... I will continue to leave full carts of perishable groceries in the aisle every time if I encounter lines to the back of your store on the self checkouts

This weekend was my first time in this store. I liked it so much. Many vegan products at a reasonable price. I am vegetarian and my husband is vegan, we have just moved in to Taos and before this store it was a little difficult to find variety of foods for us. Thumbs up!!!

Ive shopped here one time and it will definitely be the last time. (Especially in the evening/night) Parking lot feels dangerous, its dark and dingy. The parking lot lights only half of them work. Doesnt feel safe, especially with the type of people wondering the streets at night. When I got back to my truck the car next to me had people with lighters under spoons. When you create an atmosphere like this, they will come, and I will not. Only lights come from the offshoot of their gas station way off to the side. All this is just outside and I do not even want to get into the smell on the inside.🙅‍♂️. Good luck, hope yall can fix this location.

The meat is always spoiled. They clearly don't care b/c it's been that way for years. Not especially clean. One of the baggers tried to start a fistfight with me. Just a terrible store.

After shopping at Smiths for more than 5 years and being known by name from many employees we will never be shopping there again!!We love alot of the people and employees there.has been a wonderful store for years! We would bag our own groceries at clerk checkout and help out fellow shoppers or employees. As much as my husband and I have cared for them and helped while we were shopping, today we got none of that respect back.I hate to be "that person" but hear me out..Check your food before you leave Smith's in Taos or any other store from now on.We purchased a tub of rocky road ice cream without checking if it had a seal.(Dreyers ice cream doesn't come with a seal in the first place, never purchasing their brand again either)After dinner last Thursday (August 27th) night we opened it up to find out half of it had been eaten!!!And we had already thrown our receipt. Then with my luck my vehicle broke down.Today (Friday, Sept 4th at 7:00) we just got around to taking it back to Smith's and the woman who was a supposed "manager" wasn't even in the store. We were directed outside to where she was just sitting around in a hadicapped cart that she just took from another customer when we walked in previously. She didn't care to even ask what the problem was, all she cared about was the recipt.Which I can understand, but someone opened it, ate half and then put it back and could've had COVID!!!!So they don't think that is anything to be worried about at all??We then proceeded to throw it away in the trash can she was sitting in front of outside the store.Selling defective and half eaten food but not taking responsibly or caring about the fact that there is a life-threatening virus. Will be doing a formal complaint."Sorry" we threw the receipt away before we realized the product was contaminated!!It's not easy when you are living on pennies and gift cards then you get screwed over a tub of ice cream all because some selfish human ate half of it and left it sitting on the shelf during a pandemic! 😡I just hope this can helps people in the future to be more careful and aware than we were when shopping. ❤

Due to the current state restrictions, I am not allowed to shop in-store. Click list is my only option. My first experience with shopping for Thanksgiving, or after 27 calls, no answers, I received my food 36 hours after my scheduled pick up. The next two trips were not much better, although upper management had assigned a “private shopper” for my groceries. He was never available when I placed my orders.Sadly, some of the produce I receive looks like it might have been taken from a bin which was two days from the trash. Since I only buy fruits and vegetables, this is very important to me. What I also find very disturbing is that I have waited in the parking lot for the entire hour of my scheduled pick up and still not received my groceries. Three of the four times, I have made multiple trips to the store and waited over two hours in order to retrieve my groceries.Since I have lived in other states, I have used Kroger and click list with none of these issues. This doesn’t seem any way to run a business. My suggestion is you skip the grocery pick up, and shop in store if you are able.

Pharmacy won't bill my insurance provider.Smith's in Taos has been my sole pharmacy for many years. For most of that time I have be treated with courtesy and respect.Unfortunately, in the past few months I have been met with disinterest or, worse outright hostility. The problem is that rather than billing my insurance, I am asked to pay for prescriptions in full. When I first questioned the cost, I was told that my deductible had not been satisfied. Upon contacting my insurance provider I was informed that there is no deductible and that nothing had been charged to my insurance since the beginning of the year. That was months ago and I still have to ask them to bill my insurance every time I pick up a prescription.I have asked for help with this problem, but nothing has changed. Today I was told that I must call before pickup if I want my insurance billed! Really?

September 2023, the cooler with milk and cheese reeks of mold.Rotten bleach mopping the floor... Absolutely disgusting smell. The employee dining on pizza, at the store checkout watch station, was the cherry on top of this shopping trip.I don't like shopping here, bad energy and non- helpful employees more concerned with face diapers than customer service. I avoid it here harder than I avoid real viruses...

Today Smiths did not live up to taking care of there customers. In fact there was no Manger to be found around 3pm to 3:30 pm. There was long lines and obviously the manager of this store did not care. In fact when I finally made it home I called the manager and his excuse for the staff shortage was, they can't find employees to work. So then I asked him: why are you not helping. His reply was that he was on a personal conference call. I then asked him if it was business related and he said no it was personal. Then he hung up on me. So I made a call to Krogers corporate and they were not happy with with this manager. Hopefully Krogers will fix this problem. It's only effecting the customers and their experience. In the mean time I'll have to shop at Albertsons.

Every department at this location has helpful employees. The young man working in the Deli was very friendly, as well as the staff in the Starbucks. When it came time to self checkout the older gentleman that helped me was very kind and held a nice conversation, he was very patient. Glad Taos still has a Smiths, most towns have been taken out by Walmart:( with not nearly as great of customer service!

I’ve only shopped here once but I would say DO NOT USE THE PICKUP SERVICE. I had a scheduled pickup, checked in promptly upon arriving, and the groceries took nearly an hour and a half to come out. I went in after waiting for an hour to inquire about my order and they were still fulfilling it. I could have done my shopping 3 times in that time.
