I needed a last minute fireplace & chimney cleaning for the rental we are moving out of and Shawn’s chimney sweep made that one aspect of our move very easy. Called the week before and he popped by at the day and time we scheduled and he got it done in less than an hour. Price was exactly what he said it would be when I originally called. Overall positive experience!

I usually don’t like to post negative reviews for any local business but I can’t in good conscience recommend Shawns chimney sweep after the experience I have had. He came out a few months ago and gave me an estimate to install a new pellet stove. I gave him a deposit of just over $3000 and we agreed on a set date. Unfortunately, I had a pipe burst under my floor and needed my floor replaced. I called Shawn to ask if we could reschedule once the floor was complete. He said we could. He did not advise me at that time that there would be any issue with postponing. I called him a week before the floor was to be repaired to let him know, and he did not return my call. I called him again and his voicemail was full. I called him a third time and was fortunate enough to catch him. At that time he told me he would let me know once he looked at his schedule. I waited a week and heard nothing. I called him again and once again the cycle of calls, no return calls, and full voicemails repeated itself. Finally when I got a hold of him, he snapped at me and told me he would call me when he had a date available. Once again, I hung up and waited. After not hearing from him for a few weeks. I attempted to contact him again. Once again, no return phone calls, full voicemails, etc. Finally I’d had enough. He clearly was too busy and did not need my business. I left him a voicemail telling him I was very dissatisfied and wanted my deposit back. Lo and behold within minutes he was calling me back and now he was going to be there the following Saturday. I told him it was too late. I had been patient enough and I wanted my deposit back. I asked him to mail me the deposit within a week and he said he would. It’s now three weeks later and I’ve received no check in the mail and, of course, he’s not returning my calls. My husband recently passed away and I need the $3000 back. I’ve explained this to him in a voicemail and still, nothing. My experience with him has been very frustrating, stressful, and difficult. I don’t recommend his company to anyone! Buyer beware and definitely don’t leave a large deposit.

Called to get my pellet stove fixed and my chimney swept, Shawn charged me $240 for a pellet stove igniter ($25-$50 item) and $360 to come to my house and didn't even clean the chimney. He told me he would come back and never did. Shawn likes to scam people.

Called and setup an appointment that I missed by mistake, then Shawn got it scheduled again luckily.When they made it out here, they were fast, did a good job of cleaning everything out, so much that I can lay my bare hand on it and not come back with much anything on it, and they were friendly/polite.I'd use their services again.

Purchased a used pellet stove at a great price. They delivered it to our home & helped with set up. They are very professional polite and knowledgeable.I was going to get rid if my old stove because I thought something major was wrong & they pointed out it was a minor issue. This saved me more than I paid for the one I bought from them. EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE!!!!! They follow up with everything and make sure you're 100% satisfied

I don’t recommend these guys. Although I got an appointment quickly, they charged twice the going rate ($314 plus tax), and tried to convince me that my stove was in poor condition, presumably so that I’d buy a new one from them.

Shawn's Chimney Sweep installed my wood burning stove about two years ago. They were cheaper than the other options, and I soon found out why.1. They very nearly installed my stove 18" farther out into the room than necessary. My stove has a feature that allows for a rear-facing pipe or a top-facing one. They did not realize this, and the day of the install, told me my hearth was too close to the wall and would need to be moved out into the room. I had to physically intervene and flip the stovepipe exit on the stove myself to show them putting my wood stove in the damn middle of my living room was unnecessary. They had bought elbows and other pieces with my money that were not used. They kept these relatively expensive parts and I was not refunded.2. Instead of permanently sealing the penetration on my roof, they jammed two gallons of tar in the hole and upon leaving, said "You'll want to hire a roofer to seal your roof where we just installed your flue." Other installers finish the job, but not Shawn's. They told me "We're not roofers." That cost me another few hundred dollars and the headache of finding someone to do it and scheduling the work.3. Upon hiring a chimney sweep to clean it out, they informed me that the clearances inside my roof for safety were less than the required two inches. I had to install an extra heat guard myself due to this problem. In addition, they did not cut the ceiling drywall to the required two-inch distance from the pipe. My chimney sweep guy was nice enough to quickly correct this problem with a jigsaw - something that would have been easy for Shawn's to do, but they elected to skip that step.4. Shawn's installed my flue using a mish-mash of parts that only kind of fit together. The collar connecting the stove pipe to the larger part in the ceiling was not the correct part, which is important for how Underwriters Laboratories tests these systems as a unit. I bought the part for an additional $60 and installed it myself. The collar Shawn's used was a thin, flimsy thing that did not seal as well as the proper part. My wood stove burns differently and better now that I have corrected the errors Shawn's made in my install.I cannot recommend Shawn's to anyone. They cut corners everywhere on my job, resulting in an unsafe fireplace in my home - the largest investment I've ever made in my life. Avoid at all costs.UPDATE: Shawn just called me and said that he saw my review, "the install was perfect," and then hung up on me. I have updated this review with pictures of what Shawn considers a perfect installation. The pipe does not move in the hole and I would never move it to make it look like a bad install. What kind of person would do that?UPDATE 2.0: Shawn says my wood stove belongs in the trash. Another, higher-rated company in town says it's one of the best stoves a person can have. The top isn't broken (it just requires cementing and was designed that way) and it's EPA approved. I waited four years because that's the first time I saw how alarmingly close to the drywall my stove pipe is (was). Shawn, don't be rude. If you've read this review and his response, this is the kind of attitude he brought to my job.

A guy showed up and didn’t talk much, wasn’t a pleasant visit, Shawn’s Chimney sweep was highly recommended by friends but I was disappointed with the personality of the company employees, they did good and fast work but I feel like I wouldn’t want them in my house again.
