We really enjoyed our stay at Fisheads for the weekend. The place we stayed at was newly remodeled and was clean. The restaurant had great food and the older woman waiting on us provided excellent service. The Fishing was all we could have hoped for and more. I would highly recommend asking for A. Rod aka Alex Rodriguez. He is one of the younger guides on the river but you can tell he has plenty of experience and made our fishing one we would never forget! Thank you again A.Rod!!

We had Connor as our guide and I can’t say enough about how great he was! He was personable, fun, and put us on 15+ fish! This was my first time ever fly fishing in my life and he was an awesome teacher! I plan on bringing my family and friends back and will always request Connor! If you even have a shadow of a doubt to book this trip, DO IT!

This was my 1st time staying near the San Juan river. I found fish heads online and I called to make reservations for the weekend. My 1st impression was after making the reservations I did not receive an email with an itinerary So I wasn't really sure if I had a room or not. I called as I was driving to their hotel, a lady told me that the room was open and the key was left on the table. The rooms are OK, nothing fancy. What I did like about the room is that they had a rack on the wall to place your fly rods on and a hanger outside to hang your waders. Other than that the room is made for angler's. There was one issue after coming back from fly fishing all day my room door was left open after housekeeping left. Also the hotel room was kind of pricey for being the off season.Walkability: You can walk to the fly shpe or the local bar.

Just had one of the best weekends of my life! Learned and love fly fishing.Caught 5, 17 - 23 inchers the first day and 10 the second. Taught and Guided by the Best- Chris & Bubba. Phenomenal all inclusive package. Extraordinaryly highest quality food prepared into superb gourmet meals served with grace and kindness. Fishing guides were great. Room cleanliness was terrible. My brother and I stayed in the same room and got bitten by bed bugs. Friends stayed in one room over and had a giant black widow in their bathroom. The day we checked out, found a small black widow on my lapel in the dinning room. Every meal had small bugs flying in our face indoors of the restaurant.

Wonderful weekend here! Spent 3 nights and enjoyed 2 days of fly fishing with the Best Guides ( 2 of us caught at least 15 trout each). Food and service phenomenal. - gourmet meals served with grace. Excellent TFisheads is an excellent flyfishing guides' service. Spent 4 days using their guiding services and not one bad day. One of the high lights was my first-time flyfishing son catching his first trout on a dry fly. Would also like to take a minute to recommend Arron Silva who we waded and floated with as a hardworking, knowledgeable and good person to spend a day with. Also, if you are not using Fisheads lodging and food services you are missing out on great accommodations. I would highly recommended Fisheads for all your San Jaun River needs.eam all around

Rooms are OK. So sad Abe's is gone. Loved the minimal rooms and great price. Had so many great times there. Recently stayed near Bayfield and used Duranglers Flyfishing Guides. One float was from Crusher Hole to town. Had a great time. Lots of 16-20 inch Trout.

This is a great little spot near Navajo Dam park. They specialize in fly fishing, and offer guided adventures. They have a restaurant on site offering dinner reservations and great breakfast options to anyone. I have four stars as they are more expensive especially during peak season than since of the others. They are also not pet friendly, which is disappointing. They are accommodating of service animals.They fill up fast so plan ahead.

My Dad and I spent 2 days fishing with Fisheads on the San Juan. I cannot say enough good things about this operation. We opted for their all inclusive option and it was the best decision we made. The food was top notch, the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable, and Chris our guide was outstanding to say the least. We will be returning ASAP and spreading the word about the amazing experience we had at Orvis endorsed Fisheads .

Just returned from two days on the river. Marcus is the best guide I have ever fished with. His attention to detail (right depth, drift and rig) is amazing and does not stop until the fish start eating. Caught and hooked so many fish I lost count in the first thirty minutes.Stayed at the lodge and the food was excellent. Chris and his staff are professional and make you feel like part of the family.Thanks for the great time!

I had such a wonderful time fishing the San Juan: I caught a ton of fish and I learned so much! Chris is a fishing wizard, an outstanding teacher, and very enjoyable company. He also has a great deal of knowledge on the river ecology, weather patterns, etc- just ask, he will know the answer to every question you can come up with. Planning the trip was really smooth with Barb's help. In addition, this is a great place to stay- my room was clean and comfortable. Also the breakfast at the lodge is delicious!! I can't wait to return.

We booked a float fishing trip from Fish heads this summer 22. I didn’t especially find the staff working in fish heads to be all that friendly honestly. Even booking it on the phone ahead of time let me wondering if I had made the right call. The fishing itself was fantastic – no complaints there. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but was a little disappointed at the lack of appreciation of the customer.

Fish Heads exceeded our expectations by far! We just got off the river after a day of guided fishing with Chris Taylor and I have nothing but nice things to say. As a beginner fly fisher Chris made me feel comfortable and ensured that we had a great time. We caught some amazing fish and his customer service was second to none. He is a wealth of knowledge for sure. The lodging is clean and has everything one would need or want on a fishing trip! Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back!

Chris Taylor is the BEST! In fact, the entire crew at Fisheads is unbeatable. I have been fishing with Chris and his team for over 20 years, and I've never had a bad experience. I've seen him go from being a guide for another operation, to owning his own guide service, to opening an Orvis shop, and a lodge and an EXCELLENT restaurant. He never ceases to amaze me -- he is a tireless worker who is dedicated to giving his customers the best possible experience, on the river, in the lodge, in the shop, or in the restaurant. He is always professional, yet personable, and I love his sense of humor.In my opinion, he's the best guide on the river, and his whole operation is fantastic -- there's not a "slacker" in the bunch. They bring their best game, every time. I've had occasion to fish with other guides on the San Juan, but they pale in comparison to the Fisheads team. I always come back to them -- they're the best there is.If you want the best guides, lodging, fly shop, and dining in Navajo Dam, there's only one place to go -- Fisheads of the San Juan River!

Came for a room while taking my son fishing on nearby Navajo Lake. Was given one of the riverfront rooms on the back strip they recently acquired. Rooms were just about right for a fishing expedition: I like the un-carpeted rooms knowing that there won't be embedded crud from previous occupants. It was clean, included a fridge and microwave and had an awesome view out the back overlooking the San Juan River.The small restaurant had very good food, and prices for the rooms and food were very reasonable.We did not sign up for the fishing tours, although I may try one next time (and there will be a next time.)What really impressed me was the willingness of the lake guide to help me find a great spot for my young son to catch his first fish. We had tried several areas on the lake our first two days, without success. When Nicole heard about our predicament she brought out a detailed map of the lake and identified two areas that she felt would be good spots for a young fisher to try. We took the boat out to the first area she recommended and within 30 minutes my son caught his very first fish - talk about a really excited young man. It was the highlight of our trip, and was way beyond what I expected since we had not signed up for their guide services.Thank you Nicole!

Set up a day fly fishing trip for my wife and I. Jacob was a very good guide and super patient with us especially since my wife had never been before. Had a great time, saw some amazing fish, and enjoyed a beautiful day on the river. Thanks Barbara and we hope to be back sometime soon!!

Where to begin... My wife and I had our first fly fishing trip ever. We are from Florida, now living in New Mexico and have fished salt water our entire lives. We did a half day trip with Cory on 4/26 and I did a full day on 4/27 with Marcus. These guides are awesome. They have tons of experience, know the river and how to fish it. For our first day Cory was very patient and a great teacher making my second day with Marcus easier. The San Juan is beautiful, great wildlife and the fishing / catching is awesome. I would recommend these guides to begginers or experienced fly fishermen. I plan on coming back in August and will have to flip a coin to see who takes me for my first wading trip!! Tight lines.

Had the pleasure of staying with Fisheads in Navajo Dam. Lodging was comfortable, clean and quiet. Loved the fly tying desk! Really enjoyed the great food from the restaurant along with the wonderful people (Betty and Dorethea) who were not only accommodating, but were fun to get to know. A special thanks to Thaddeus, Barbara, David and Hayden for making me feel like family. Enjoyed a half day of incredible fishing with outstanding guide and owner, Chris Taylor (and wonderful golden retriever, Sammie). Honestly, it doesn't get any better.

My wife and I really enjoyed our time on the San Juan river with our guide Robby and his dog Boomer. It was our first ever float trip and her first time flyfishing. Robby was very patient with us both and found several humorous ways to try and teach me how to better set the hook on the almost constantly biting trout. We landed plenty of beautiful trout, both rainbows and browns. Robby helped my wife hold the fish herself for pictures so we have some great photos to help preserve great memories of a great trip.

Our 9th year staying at the Fisheads lodge, fishing with their very professional guides and eating in their dining room. This year topped them all because on their new all inclusive fish, lodge and dine package. The fishing was great, as usual, thanks to guides, Chris, Marcus and JB. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The evening meal was incredible!!! We had gourmet dining all three nights which would have done some of Phoenix's finest restaurants proud. Great job and we will be back again soon.

Chris Taylor has put together a great venue for experiencing the San Juan. Cabins, restaurant and fly shop are just right and the guides are outstanding. Chris and Marcus both worked hard to put me on great fish and patiently tutored me in float fishing techniques. All in our party had similar experiences with their guides. Definitely recommend Fisheads for your next trip to the San Juan.

Great setup for fishing the San Juan. A clean room with a good shower and a comfortable bed is just what a fisherman needs at the end of the day. Nothing fancy and fairly priced. The restaurant serves good food, and the tackle shop has what you need. I didn't get a guide, but I did get some good tips from the tackle shop.

I just spent 2 great days on the San Juan. What a great time, Fisheads Lodge did an outstanding job: very friendly, accommodating, good food (too much) I’d go back in a heartbeat. My guide John Gehring was excellent. John was extremely attentive to every aspect of our 2 days on the water. From fly selection, to depth, to weights, drift position, technique, correcting a few bad habits …. everything, he was on it. When you spend 16 plus hours on a boat with someone you get to know them, John is a great guide and he is a good guy. And I caught my biggest trout.
