A buddy and I stopped here on our way out to The Gila National Forest. We figured it might be our last place to eat before we got there. The reviews were good, but we still didn’t have really high hopes. Little did we know just how good the food would be here!!! We both had the Hatch green chile cheeseburger. It was literally one of the best burgers ever! You also must try the Green Chile Mac and cheese. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m out that way!! Congratulations to the owners!

Finally made the drive to Magdalena to have lunch at Tumbleweeds Diner and are so happy we did! The drive was beautiful and we were so excited to drive up to the building we’ve only been seeing on social media. Every detail has been thoughtfully tended to - the dining area is warm and inviting. The owners and staff members were friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the food was fantastic. We both had burgers which you could tell were fresh, ground in house and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back and if you’re wondering if it’s worth the drive - absolutely! There were many of us there today who’d made the day trip from Albuquerque!!!

Saw the excellent social media for Tumbleweeds and drove down from Placitas, which is an adventure in and of itself as it's a lovely drive. Osiris greeted us as soon as we walked in, seated us immediately and was genuinely pleased to have us there. Most business owners have no idea how important that one simple initial act of contact is. It's literally 90% of the game. The rest was easy. The very best green chile smashed burger I've had to date and the hot chicken sandwich was to die for. Also, we noticed that the clientele looked mostly local. Families maybe coming after church. Again, not so prevalent in this post-covid, inflation-heavy world and confirmation that Tumbleweed's prices are eminently reasonable. Altogether a great experience. Two recommendations though. Beef tallow or some other non-seed oil option for those awesome hand-cut fries and maybe grab some pies from Pie Town up the road to serve for dessert. Keep up the great work and we'll see you again soon!

I traveled all the way from Washington, D.C., by way of El Paso, to eat at Tumbleweeds, and it was well worth the trek! The drive to Magdalena was postcard-perfect with breathtaking views, and when I finally arrived at Tumbleweeds, it was magical! The diner is a work of art, nestled right off the road in a landscape to die for with big skies. I was greeted by the friendliest of hostesses and seated at a small table surrounded by unique art and colorful conversation pieces. I had the veggie cheeseburger with green chiles - something not always easy to find! - and it was superb! The fries were also delightful - A++! In addition to the stellar decor, service, food, and prices, I was impressed with the eco-friendly takeout containers (no styrofoam here!) and the handicrafts for sale near the entrance - this is a diner that is not just serving great food, they're building community and opportunities for local talent. What an enchanting spot! Tumbleweeds is doing everything right, and I plan to stop here every time I'm in New Mexico. If I lived nearby, I'd be a regular. :)

We actually made the drive down to Magdalena from Albuquerque specifically to check out Tumbleweeds while we were getting some photos of the historic buildings and the Kelly Mine.We showed up about an hour before close on a Sunday, diner was quiet and relaxed, with a friendly greeting as we entered. I decided on the Cowboy Burger and my co-diner opted for the Black Bean Burger. There are low key options for beer / wine / cider, and we had drinks and food ordered quickly. The food arrived and was impressive - probably the best burger I've had in New Mexico, and high on the list of best I've eaten. Cheese melted over the hand smashed patty on the grill, candied jalapenos, pickled red onions and a great sauce all on a grill toasted bun with perfectly cooked fries on the side. Heaven. The black bean burger was a great vegetarian option, accompanied with a well-dressed side salad - flavorful and a big meal, easily split if needed.All-in-all a great experience and we'll be back - I'd drive twice as far for the Cowboy Burger!Highly recommended.

Tumbleweeds is probably the best restaurant in Socorro County, and absolutely worth visiting, whether you're passing by on 60 on a long trip, or a local searching for good food in a friendly environment. We go about once a month, or every other, depending on circumstances (so these photos are from various visits not a single meal!) and have never had a bad experience. The owners are friendly and welcoming and the service is always excellent. We look forward to our visits, not just because of the great food but also because it's just pleasant to be there. But about the food: It's fresh, from scratch, and made by folks who know what they're doing. The regular menu has many fantastic options. Some of our favorites: the enchiladas, with their own nice twist on the traditional flavors; the chicken sandwich--I get it 'hot' level of spicy--which is juicy and crisp and certainly could best any place in the 'chicken sandwich wars'; the mac and cheese, which has an amazing cheese sauce. But, my advice is to check the board for the specials. Some of the best burgers I've ever had have been weekend specials here. As an aside, I eat meat probably once or twice a month at most and tend to save one of my meals with meat for a visit to Tumbleweeds---the burgers and fried chicken sandwiches are that good. Also, the pinon coffee is somehow better than it is anywhere else---seriously it actually tastes like pinon coffee here.Something else about Tumbleweeds worth mentioning is that it's committed to the local community. One small example: It occasionally hosts makers markets for local artisans. The business is serious about being part of Magdalena and the surrounding parts of the county. Small businesses with owners like this can help sustain and give breath to small towns--I've seen it happen elsewhere--and it's a blessing to have one like this here.

We went to Tumbleweed as vendors for a foodie group thing. The waitress brought menus out to us in the parking lot where we were set up and then delivered our food. We will go back to eat there again. It was a great experience.Vegetarian options: The hamburger meat can be changed to vegetarian meat.

If you are anywhere near the historic town of Magdalena NM, this restaurant NEEDS to be part of your itinerary. Or just go there for no other reason than the fact that you will leave very happy- totally worth a day trip! Over the scores of road trips I've taken food has always been something I would seek out as an important part of the experience, and this small town diner does not disappoint. The food was simply amazing. Green Chile Cheese Burger was in-house ground (seriously, the best burger I've ever had) cooked and seasoned perfectly. The fries were hand cut and fried to perfection. I said to my husband that it's always the fries that disappoint me the most and I've almost just stopped ordering them, but NOT THESE GEMS. So good. It's like your really good cook of a mama made it for you but MUCH MUCH BETTER. Do it - go here.

Great little diner! Very clean and cool atmosphere. Food was excellent! We got the green chile cheeseburgers. Fries were crispy and delicious and the burgers were so friggin good. Everything in them was super fresh and flavorful. The menu is varied and they have beer and wine as well.Highly recommend stopping by if you're driving through like we did! Cards accepted and prices were reasonable. They had outdoor seating so we were able to bring our dog as well.

I came across the restaurant on Instagram after looking up the town of Magdalena. The owner, Osiris, was very friendly and told me to drop by the next time I visited. So, I did! She is even friendlier in person and such a sweet soul. The restaurant itself is also amazing. I love the decor and the servers were attentive. The food was also amazing. I ordered the black bean patty in a bowl with "Christmas" chilli all three times I ate there. It was that good. If you're vegetarian, I highly recommend it. If you don't eat eggs, be sure to let them know as it does come with one. Hands down the best diner I've visited in the 35 states I've traveled to so far. Would not hesitate to stop here again. Add it to your bucket list. ☺️Vegetarian options: Vegetarian but not vegan. There is a black bean version to almost every meat meal on the menu. Parking: Outdoor parking in front of the restaurant.

We found Tumbleweeds Diner through Harvest Host, an app that helps travelers find places to boondock. We originally had planned on staying here for the night but we ran ahead of schedule so we stopped in for lunch instead. So glad we did! Everything about this place is the absolute cutest. Not to mention the food was amazing. The chicken sandwich was perfect, juicy meat, crispy but not too thick crust, seasoned and flavored well. The burger was delicious as well and while many places underestimate the importance of a good bun, Tumbleweeds did not. What a delightful surprise this little place was!

My boyfriend and I stopped here after a hike in Cibola National forest and it was absolute gem of a find!! The food was amazing, which is hard to come by in the surrounding areas. I had a spicy chicken sandwich that was crispy and light and my boyfriend the teriyaki chicken (which he is still talking about). Everything was fresh and hot! Can’t wait to go back and try the burgers they looked amazing too!! If you’re in the area and looking for good food this is the place to go!

Wonderful food. Best spicy chicken sandwich I have ever had. I recommend ordering it “hella hot”. Great people and tasty food. If you like burgers get the cowboy burger. I drive from Socorro all the time just to eat here.

Love this place.Food is so very good my husband said, their Fish & Chip is way better than mine. Can you believe that???In fact, everything they make is amazing and better than my poor attempt to cooking. Those random sell-out “pop-ups” are worth attending, if you can get in.
