We had a standard single room, I think it was a full or queen sized bed. Small room, but comfy pillows!!! This was definitely a highlight to mention. The room was meant to keep us warm and off the ground. Water in shower was nice and warm. Gift shop was superb. Walls are a bit thin but it's okay if you don't have night owls checked on next to you. Beautiful views and roads to journey through.

What a run down motel. While everything appeared clean and location was quiet, the worst for me was the overpowering smell in the room, like some old antique shop. All my clothes wreaked of that place the day after.Bathrooms are tiny with no latching door. Door was some cheap sliding door to cover the hole where a door would normally be. Leaves little to the imagination when occupied.Beds were alright in comfort. Pillows were some medium/hard foam (memory foam maybe?); not comfortable for someone used to soft and malleable pillows.Check-in office was messy, seems to have some hobbyist activity going on.Staff was pleasant. Only saw one person but no issues here.Walking distance to other stuff is short; went to some bar/restaurant hybrid a couple blocks down for dinner. However, town is tiny so not much here except to sleep, eat, and move on.Woke up at 4am and just left to get to my next destination. Could not wait to leave. As mentioned earlier, mostly due to the smell, good grief.Would recommend staying in Socorro or some other nearby town/city and bypass this place altogether.

My son and I stayed here on our motorcycle trip from California to Texas. Carol was great. She’s the friend you haven’t met yet. As others noted the room was clean. It’s a quiet town and so was the lodge. Beds were comfortable. We took a short walk to the saloon and hung out with some of the locals. We just joined in on the banter, chatted it up and walked back to our room and slept like babies. I would stay there again.Safety: Seems to me these are good people and I had no safety concerns about myself or our gear.

Older motel with ample parking. Check-in was great with extremely friendly helpful staff. Rooms are rather small but clean and well kept. Our bed was harder than we liked but overall it is definitely a good place to spend the night. Recommend.Rooms: Small but well kept

I stayed here a total of 3 nights. I’m helping work the Bear Trap fire and the staff here at High Country Lodge are SO NICE. My wife and son came by to visit while I worked, their kindness was vast and extended to my family. They made sure we were comfortable during our stay! I’ve been to some pretty expensive hotels and I can say I prefer High Country Lodge! The room felt like home and it had everything my family needed. This is a great place to stay if you’re passing through or staying around for work. Even if you’re around Socorro, it’s worth the drive. Whenever I’m staying in Magdalena, I’ll be sure to stay at High Country Lodge!

What awesome service and kindness provided by John at the front desk. I called ahead to book a room for my 80 yr old father who has been traveling 36 hours lost and on the wrong road. John watched and waited for, greeted him by name when he arrived, escorted him to his room, heated up and delivered homemade burritos to him, got his TV set up for, and assisted in bringing things from the car. And stilled if there was anything else he could help with. Dad says the room is nice and clean. Thank you so much! We highly recommend to anyone.

Read the reviews as I was skeptical about booking this place for my wife and daughter while during their road trip but the location was in the general area of where they needed to be for the night. Sounded like the place had been fixed up and remodeled. Maybe we didn't get one of the remolded rooms but this place was a disaster. Nothing like what it was made out to be. Absolutely not a 4.1 rating. 2 min of hot water and tub filled up when trying to get a shower. It was old and dirty! The people we talked with on the phone were nice but I would not come back to this place again.

I had family in from out of town for Thanksgiving. The owner was amazing! She was so nice, friendly, accommodating and generous to us all! The room was attractive and comfortable. Thank you so much for everything!

the price was very good, and the owner is remodeling the rooms. the room was spotless, and has a microwave, fridge, and a coffee pot in it. the bed was also new, firm, and felt like we were sleeping at home. Unlike alot of hotels, this place washes the whole bedding--blankets, covering, and all. So when you sleep, you are in 100% clean bedding. they make you feel at home, and make your stay as comfy as possible. We spent 3 nights there to see the local sites, and enjoyed the stay. I highly recomment staying here. Free wifi, cable, and its not fancy like more expensive places are, but definitely not a hotel that is like lower priced ones elsewhere. the restaurant is closed, but there are places to eat in town. if we ever go back there again, this is where we will stay. Loved the place and the rooms are decorated with a southwest taste to them. Wonderful hotel!!

I don’t understand the 4-5 star rating as this disheveled motel is disorganized and provides only the most basic services. The hosts are pleasant, but I take pause at a motel in which even the office is unkempt and messy. Yes, you’ll get a clean bed and a hot shower but this is a very low budget motel that is quite depressing. Avoid.

To put things in proper context: This is not a motel-built-for-the-purpose. It is a motel that was pieced together from scratch after its predecessor closed its doors - this done by locals in an effort to "keep the town running".It's a run-down motel in a run-down town. Mind you, neither are broken down! The conditions in themselves are fine; the rooms and bathroom facilities are sanitary and functional. It has cable TV, microwave, coffeemaker, wireless internet (works, but it's slow), comfortable beds, running water both hot and cold, refrigerator and plenty of lighting indoor and out.You don't get top quality lodging, but you are not paying for it either.The town is a slow town, but has a nice bar 2 blocks away with a good pool table, jukebox and a spacious outdoor patio. If the nearby cafe/eatery is closed, the bar will serve some decently-sized and very spicy pizzas. The locals are approachable and sociable, a lovely bunch really.I found this motel quite sufficient for my stay and would stay here again, though it would be nice if they manage to fix up some of the flaws. Knowing that my stay helps the town, is a plus.

New owners. Fries are really good. They need to learn how to make smothered green chili fries on a burger. The burger meat was very tasty. They have one little tiny table to eat outside. Need more tables.I wish them lots of success.

My husband had to stay there for a week while we moved. He said the room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Very large like on the inside. And the owner is a lovely lady. Would definitely stay there again.

Very charming with a 1960's appeal. This place is one of my favorites. Run by a not-for-profit board of Magdalena, the management staff are extra warm and attentive. The room was clean with a/c and heat, microwave/fridge/etc to meet all your vacay needs. Located in the small village of Magdalena, it's got that vintage feel. I highly recommend for anyone wanting to visit the Very Large Array Observatory (just a few miles down the road), go star gazing (THE best views of the milky way) or to simply escape the noise and haste of wherever they're from.

So this is a very quaint , and quiet hotel . The internet isnt very good. And there isnt a phone in The room which poses as a problem being that cell service is very scarce in Magdalena but these minor things aside What an amazing stay!The owners are a wonderful couple and they made me feel right at home. Because of them i would stay any time. I highly recommend this place

Was very friendly, got stranded in Magdalena due to power outage and low gastank. power came on about 11pm, but gas station still could not pump, found this lodge and rang the bell. caretaker was very nice, got me access to a phone, and rented me a room to sleep in until morning when i could buy gas and drive home on snow covered roads.

Quaint clean cozy country rooms, comfy pillows and bed, wonderfully personable owners, perfect location to see the VLA. I was a little nervous at first cuz you never know what to expect at places off the beaten path, but this place was a delightful little gem to get a good nice sleep in small town New Mexico while exploring.
