Unfortunately, they do not abide by their 2 day call back advertised on website so they should amend that to say they will be in touch when they are able. Also, they don't answer phone (ever) so that makes it appear they are never open. There is an ability to leave a message, but my phone call went unreturned. I called thrift store and left my name and phone number with a very helpful person. Finally, received a text that they were reviewing my application. Then, about 2 days later, they informed me my application was rejected because I live in Colorado. I do not and had they just read my application they would have understood that. I explained by both text and email that we are in New Mexico and asked them to reconsider my application. They didn't respond. I am sure they are busy and mostly volunteers but this was a really bad experience...I recently lost my rescue dog I had for 15 years...I went through another rescue and was qualified, and received a puppy within 2 days. I suggest people in the market to adopt a pet go to the hundreds of other shelters available and don't waste their time with this one.

I called, left message, no response. I emailed, no response. I wanted to donate cat food and unopened insulin and syringes. I recently had to put my dear Charlie to sleep. Apparently, Safe Haven doesn't want food or medicine. I worry about the dogs and cats there. I have tried in the past to donate food...no response. Guess I will donate to Dona Ana Animal Shelter.Seems no animal shelter in Las Cruces really cares. We don't even have an emergency clinic here.

Sadly, I was disappointed in the way they contacted and denied me a dog. I had filled out an application had waited the 2 day period for a call and then I had called several times leaving voicemails to see where they were in the process only to get an email over a month later telling me I was denied without giving me a chance of an interview. I have another dog according to them the dog I was looking at was a "bully" but they never gave me a chance to say I am a zookeeper who has worked at shelters and several zoos with aggressive dogs/animals and dealt with many introductions. Wished they had contacted sooner and spoken to me over the phone I even tried emailing them a response to ask for an interview with no response back.

Unrealistic expectations for adoption. Their dogs are "indoor dogs only" and my suggestion that dogs should be able have access to the outdoors got my application rejected. Additionally, they expect dogs to not be left alone for more than 2 hours. I don't know what trust fund babies they are adopting out to, but I have to work to afford my house. I was not even offered the opportunity to suggest doggy daycare before Tricia told me I was being denied; she just pushed on ahead telling me to volunteer with the shelter to understand the dogs better. No thank you, I don't believe in keeping dogs locked up inside.

Got denied to adopt any animal they have in their care because of the fact that the animal would be left alone for the max 2 hours a day 5 days a week (because I work and so does my boyfriend.) What is expected? That we never leave the house at all?? I don’t know how any animal gets adopted here unless they are lying on the application saying they never leave their house. Also was told on the phone by Tricia that just the fact that I have my boyfriend living with me, that it would be a risk factor for a pet. Absurd.

I absolutely love Safe Haven! The needs of each animal is met, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure their pets are healthy and happy. They all do their best to make sure that any pet getting adopted goes into the best home for them and for the potential adopter.

I called to ask questions and the lady who answered gave me attitude. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Spoke to me like I was retarded or something. If you don't like answering these questions or dojng your job correctly she shouldn't be there at all! I wouldn't recommend this place if they have disrespectful people.

The animals were obviously happy and the staff is incredibly well-informed about each animals' history. They appear careful that the right animal is placed in the right home.

Not only was I denied I was very disrespected i have worked with humane society for many years and was insulted like i did not understand the breed that I have been in search for and then apparently I was not in the zone for this shelter first time I've ever heard that the lady assumed I did not know how to handle the breed I inquired about i felt very insulted
