It's an amazing place to have a picnic with your family and rest next to a running small river. Once you had a picnic; now, it is time to explore the beautiful nature by hiking and following spectacular trail that will eventually bring you to the top of the mountain. However, you should be careful by following this trail because it was a little bit difficult for some of us due to high elevation and trail going upward and path being sometimes a little bit slippery; hence, try to wear your special hiking shoes and you shouldn't have any problems along the way. Also, I would suggest to find a map probably because this trail can be a bit confusing from time to time.

A scenic volcanic outcropping that juts 200 feet up from the canyon floor. There is a picnic area where the two rivers meet!

Battleship Rock is a beautiful recreation site for people seeking to be near water, trails, picnic tables, fishing, and nature photos. It is beautiful from Spring thru Fall. Although the gates are locked in the winter, some like to hike in to see the snow and ice on the river. The upper parking lot toilets are open year around, no drinking water. Depending on your ability to hike, there are warm springs to the east of the Rock, or a waterfall to the north. Battleship Rock truly has something for everyone.Dog-friendliness: I always take a dog, on a harness and a leash.

Perfect for spending the day with family. My son is 4 years old and he was in heaven. There are many places to get into the river and lots of little trails. Perfect for social distancing! The parking area is right next to the "Battleship Rock" and there are many picnic tables and spaces to grill. There is an outdoor fireplace with covered seating as well. Looking forward to being there in the winter!

Great rec area. Tons of picnic areas with lots of shade and decent parking. Lots of bathrooms and a few dumpsters for trash. There is a short little trail that leads to a nice water fall.

This is a really lovely picnic area with many secluded and spacious spots, several near the river. At the top is the parking area for the trailhead to McCauley Springs. It's 2 miles basically uphill (I'd deem it moderate) to get there and totally worth it. Highly recommend both the picnic ground and the hiking trail.

Love this place in the jemez so peaceful and beautiful serene you can really get a full cleansing of your aura up there. It has picnic tables and places to grill food. You can hike the trail soak your feet in the stream but careful cuz the water is cold but it feels so good..once you soak your feet into the sand you can feel the bad energy leave your body if your connected to nature and yourself it's such a great feeling..Nothing like our Jemez mountains they carry such natural spirits and healing agents in the earth. ❤❤❤

Amazing place! Be careful of the driveway going downhill in case of ice! Beautiful trails await once you get in!

Its only getting 4 stars because it seems like everytime we go the picnic area is closed. I know its super early in the season but it would have been really nice to have our vehicles down by us instead of having to troop it all down from the upper parking area. It is really beautiful though and clean!!

Beautiful day picnic area in the Jemez mountains. Up by Hummingbird Camp and Camp Shaver. Plenty of bathrooms, and picnic tables. Places to grill a well. A small trail leads to a beautiful little waterfall. Only about a 5-10 minute hike. Fun day trip!

This is a beautiful location in the forest, next to an amazing rock formation, with a main creek running through, fed by smaller creeks on the mountain side. It is a wonderful respite from the desert, but it can get crowded sometimes.

Absolutely photogenic and some really reclusive trails away from the summer crowds. Pack water a snack and a camera! Also, pro tip, there is a really easy path up the rock to the peak without having to scramble. Suggest taking someone that knows that path as it is a view you don't want to miss.

Relaxing hot springs. Pretty well kept up trail although you may have to cross over a tree or two. Make sure to pack enough water and remember the that this hike is effected by the altitude. Water on lower side is murky but if you get to the top it clears up.

Parking is limited. The hike was great and the warm springs were okay--probably 70-75 degrees in May. The hike is about 5 miles in and out. Some of the dogs on the trail looked exhausted. Wear good shoes/boots as some areas are slick.

Beautiful natural area north of Jemez Springs. I visited as a young boy in the 1960s. The rock is still there!

Seems like it's always beautiful when snow is around and no people around. Nature comes back alive. Very refreshing with a short walk.
