A great place to stop in the vast inhospitable environment that is the NM bootheel. Friendly locals/staff to talk to, strong wifi, great snacks, and fuel at a very reasonable price. These are the hidden gems that make traveling into remote areas awesome.

It’s amazing what they’ve managed to fit into this little food mart - coffee, snacks and basic grocery but also locally made burritos, tamales, sandwiches, sweet breads, souvenirs and many other gems.We bought really tasty burritos ($3.50) and tamales ($2) and warmed them up in the microwave. Pumpkin pecan bread and cranberry orange bread ($3 each) were also fantastic, even better when warmed up for 30s.With free wifi and well-priced gas too, it really makes for a worthwhile stop if you’re passing by this way.

I had planned to cycle through here on a 2-country/3-state, ~400 mile/640 kms biketour, but mechanical & physical issues stopped that, so I motored here. This is an incredibly important stop for anybody who s bikepacking “ride the Divide” because 43 miles/69kms south on NM81 is the official start or end to bicycling the Continental Divide (In The USA): Antelope Wells Port of Entry (open 10:00-16:00). Only a soda machine exists there, so the HACITA FOOD MART becomes your only source for effective hydration & nutrition no less than one or two days pedal away. Since I was in a (motor) vehicle, it was also a much needed source for gasoline, especially since the “EMPTY” bar on the gauge started flashing! This fine & quirky establishment is open seven days/week, from 07:00-20:00, and has comfy booths to enjoy a microwaved meal! It certainly has earned my hearty—and thankful!—“Wheel of Approval!”This valuable site is also where you can pickup the key/pay $10usd pp fee to overnight in the hostel-like “Hachita Community Center”, maybe a 6/10mile(1km) East on 9. Excellent overnight with full electricity for re-charging, full kitchen/fridges/water closet/cots. I was prepared with my own Z-rest/night kit. The a/c was extremely nice, and I got a GREAT sleep‼️

Nice little store, when the options are, this little store. They had we we wanted, ice cream and soda. The girl was very nice. I bought some of their local turquoise.

The best stop we could make on our trip across this highway. Learned a lot about the area, turquoise, rattlesnakes, and why there was so many border patrol vehicles. Kids got souvenirs too! The store has snacks, beverages and essentials

Great little spot for supplies. 24hr gas, ice, the usual convenience store snacks as well as lunch meat, egg, produce, etc. They also have wifi.
