Around 10:15 PM at night a man attempted to enter my room. He did have a key but luckily I had the chain lock on the door. The man was upset because he understood that room 225 was his. I told the man, no I had been in the room since the afternoon. He cursed and headed back to the front office. I called the front office and the clerk proceeded to tell me I was in the wrong room and should have been in 223. I then asked the clerk well how is it that my key card open the door for 225 and the paper they wrote my number on was 225. The person did apologize and said there may have been confusion at the front desk but that was it. I reported the incident to the staff member who checked me out in the morning and his response was sorry about that. But that is it. So because of a technical error on someone's part at the office a random person almost entered my room. Luckily I was in there. My work computer and other important items were in the room, had I not been there I am not sure what could have happened and then the response from the hotel was oops and insinuated it was my mistake because I was in the wrong room? I wasn't the person who assigned me the key, room, and room number. Very frustrating. I had to stay at two other Best Western during my trip and my experience was good for the most part with this horrible exception.

Heading to Red River from Amarillo and our car broke down in the middle of the night. We managed to pull into the parking lot after calling and checking for any rooms available and Sarah was such an angel. Very helpful and efficient when checking in. The rooms are nice and well maintained. We got a single bed and it was clean and had no odor. You can definitely tell the employees and staff care. The breakfast was sooo much better than your ordinary continental breakfast and the breakfast attendant was so sweet. The green chili was delicious as well!! I definitely recommend staying. Thank you all!!!! ♥️Noteworthy details: Cordial employees

I regularly drive between Central Texas and Colorado and the Kokopelli has become a home away from home over the years. Great rooms which are well maintained, hot / strong showers and the best breakfast / breakfast room in the region (local flare with green chile). Easy parking outside of rooms is an added bonus given severe weather one often experiences in the panhandle region. The staff works very hard to be accommodating, small town friendly and provide efficient service. Hotel is also a great value and wonderfully set up for pets!

I chose this hotel primarily due to the reviews of the breakfast. My husband loves a good Brkfst. Well, it was not to be!! So, needless to say, on our way to & from the North ~ we will NOT BE STOPPING AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

Right off the hwy, this motel is an easy find with a cool-looking southwest vibe. Don't be fooled though- it is a typical motel, very noisy and though my room looked nice the function was terrible. Not one useable outlet by the beds for my CPAP or to charge my phone(good thing I brought a power strip) Snow and ice not cleared to walk thru the parking to the breakfast room, which was thru a maze of halls to an obscure back room. No sign to tell you where the dang room was and when I asked the front desk if there was a side entrance (nearer the rooms instead of trekking to the front entry) he looked puzzled and said no-- then after I ate, I found that other entry! Language barrier maybe? The room next to mine ran some kind of machinery all night; noisiest place I've spent in months. I was glad to leave and won't stay again.

Room was not bad, pretty roomy and for the most part clean. The bathroom did have a small odor 🤷‍♀️don’t know what it was. The bed was comfortable. Shower was not bad actually pleasantly surprised at the good water pressure. The area was really great for the dogs nice place to take them outside. The room was quite and had a good night sleep. The breakfast was really great ! The staff was nice. We would stay again for sure. IDo think they need to add bath was to the rooms instead of that soap that drys you out. But other than the stay was good.

Everything about this place was on point. Even though my family and I arrived during the night, the person who checked us in was super efficient and nice. As some commenters have mentioned, there was a somewhat distinct odor to our room, I presume from whatever cleaner they use. However, I stopped smelling it after only a few minutes and it was a non-issue. Our room itself was spotless, and the breakfast the next day was incredible! Though this place is listed as a 1-star hotel, I'd definitely rank it higher in my mind.Rooms: The odor some other commenters mentioned seemed to go away after spending only a few minutes in the room, and was a non-issue.Nearby activities: Clayton was a nice town, and I'd definitely recommend going to see the park with the dinosaur fossils!Safety: I felt pretty safe in that location.Walkability: The office was very close to the buildings with rooms.Food & drinks: One of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had!

The room AC was very noisy, even though it was a standard hotel unit like the one in the room I'm staying at tonight (a different hotel chain.) It sounded like a jet plane taking off. The buttons on the unit were worn off so I had to guess what did what. The room came with a fly swatter which I needed to use to chase and kill multiple flies.Even though the included breakfast buffet was good, I can't recommend this place.

We stayed here in 2022, so was our choice to stay here again. Room was clean, breakfast was good. After camping for several days, a hot shower with great water pressure was great. Phillip-Check in staff was pleasant, check out staff (didn't get his name) was just matter of fact. Called in on way to Clayton, ask for ground floor room for 2. Phillip was very obliging. Don't remember paying a $25.00 fee for parking in 2022, but was understandable. There were others with trucks & trailers too. Guess they started charging a fee for the maid that cleaned the room. Really was expecting about $160.00 fee for the night so was surprised with $194.00. However, we will stay there again.Rooms: Rooms clean and tidy.

Made reservation with them directly on the phone. I asked to have a ground floor room and he said that was available. I asked again before ending the call to make sure it was a ground floor room. He said yes. We got there and it was upstairs! I had just had a couple knee injections and couldn’t walk up stairs. They said they’d give us the only thing available on the ground floor but it was $40 more. Thankfully the manager reduced it the next morning to closer to the originally quoted rate. The staff at the hotel were very nice, especially the ladies at breakfast. The room was pretty good. NOTE: The pillows are these VERY FLAT PILLOWS that they stuff into a standard pillow case until it’s a square shape and tuck the case in. It makes them the size of a small throw pillow. It’s really weird. Who sleeps on a little square pillow? You can flatten several out and stack them and that works ok.The shower is a big step into it. The soap is odd — like a weird unscented, non lathering soap. The shampoo and conditioner were in teeny tiny bottles that were very hard to squeeze stuff out of. They only had one of each in a “family room” that sleeps up to 7 or something. You’d need one per person. We won’t stay again. It’s ok but between the odd things and the failure to handle our reservation as promised, it wasn’t worth it. The area as a whole seems to have poor quality hotels, as the Holiday Inn Express there is not a good oneFood & drinks: Breakfast was pretty basic but good. The staff handling breakfast were VERY nice, helpful and efficient. They othe highlight of our stay!

Pricey but was told it was the nicest in town. Paid $169 for 1 night but the whirlpool tub was so needed! Walking stairs to get to the room was difficult due to a knee injury. Location was great. Room was fine. Bed and pillows were comfortable. AC cooled well. Breakfast was really good. Scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, biscuits, gravy, fruit. Coffee could've been better. Would stay there again.

I was too tired to travel further and needed to stop for an overnight stay. I would have accepted about anything, but this motel was far above what could be expected. The front desk clerk was extremely friendly and helpful. The lobby was attractive and clean. Though I'm old school and still don't like paying more than $100 a night to sleep somewhere, I found that the price was more than reasonable when considering what one gets. The room was wonderfully supplied with everything anyone would want. Everything was super clean and sharp looking. The beds were very comfortable. The room was quiet and a dream to stay in. The breakfast was outstanding with home-cooked potatoes, eggs, bacon, sausages, sauces, etc. The coffee was really good and not like the in-room coffee offered in other motels and hotels. I just can't say enough good things about this place! I'd happily stay here again if I travel back this way.

I wasn't sure when I booked if I would be happy with my stay since it would appear to be an older style motel, however, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and we were very happy with the free breakfast( was very good). Woman working in restaurant was very friendly. The only thing that would have made stay better would be if they had regular size pillows on the bed( the ones we had were small) and we would have liked a thicker bedspread. Otherwise completely satisfied!

Both of these stars go to the lovely check in man I had the pleasure of interacting with. The rest are lost on the fact my bathtub was full upon arrival due to a dripping faucet and closed drain, the toilet paper had approximately 5 squares left however was nicely folded as though the roll sitting directly above it had been replaced, and my room was staggeringly hot as the A/C was off upon arrival (understand that one a bit but this room was reserved the afternoon before my arrival in the evening). Only thing that really got me was the fact that one bed smelled distinctly different from the other in my double room, fortunately it's just me so I was able to choose the fresher bed, however this is a bit concerning. I don't do reviews often but this seemed to warrant one. I'm not familiar with clayton nor their other options for lodging but I'd suggest maybe checking around elsewhere before settling here.

The outside of this motel is a little dated, so we didn’t know what to expect. We were so so impressed with the stay overall! The room was affordable, spacious, and super clean! I heard great things about breakfast. I drive between CO and TX often, so this motel will definitely be on my list of good places to stay! It is also dog friendly. I had my pup with me and it was no issue.

Traveling through on our way home to Albuquerque. The lodge has a beautiful South Western (Indian) designed interior. The registration area again was beautiful and check in was a breeze. Everything was clean, neat and inviting. The king room was large, well-appointed, clean and easy to maneuver in. There was a mini fridge and coffee make, sorry, no microwave. The only drawback was there were no USB plugins.Breakfast was delicious. The decor in the breakfast nook was carried over from Registration. I was disappointed that there was no decaf coffee, very little creamer, no hot water available, no juice glasses and very few coffee cups...I think we came down at the wrong time...most of the serving food dishes were almost out. Other than those few things, breakfast was hot, tasty, with red and green chile available. The eggs were lightly salted, the fried potatoes were well seasoned and the bacon and sausage were perfectly cooked. You can tell the owners really take pride in this lodge in the way they take care of it.

This hotel had 4+ stars, so I was hopeful. Those hopes were quickly dashed when I opened the door to see this fly swatter sitting out. Turns out there was a very good reason--mosquitoes and another random beetle. Not only were there insects in the room, but there were literal dust bunnies clinging to the ceiling. The floor had obviously been well used by other dogs. So much ick!Initially, I had made a second reservation to stay here on my way back through town later in the week, but quickly canceled that and stayed elsewhere.
