The location is ok -right opposite to Train station. Here are some Pros & cons.Pros-1. The front desk people were helpful.2. The cafe was goodCons-1.the rooms were super stuffy feeling- no AC- it was hot through the evening- with mosquitoes.2. The bathrooms look super dingy- no toothpaste was available on our stay. The doors didnt lock- careful!3. There was no TV services to our room- something happened to the wire on construction per mgmt.We wont go back- not worth $100 for a night.

Very friendly staff. Rustic room with extremely comfortable bed, clean linens and sparkling white fluffy towels. Hot water in shower was quick and abundant. Dinner and dessert excellent and served quickly. The owner is a chef! Met fellow travelers and locals in the cozy dining room and learned about the historic train from a local philanthropist. Great stay. The hotel needs maintenance and renovations but the creature comforts and unique experience were all there. Loved my stay in Chama!

A comfy bed in the heart of Chama with easy walking access to the railroad. They’re also now serving food which the new owner Joe has introduced to this establishment. I got the calzone when I was there and it was very delicious. The room was clean and was a nice warm place against the sub freezing temperatures outside.

Love this place, and all 5 stars ate breakfast there just like a home-cooked meal and made me feel like home. I would definitely stay again.Rooms: Rooms were as old as the building but loved every bit of it. I heard every creek but loved it ..old buildings talk to u, and this place was tops .you have to love historical things to appreciate this placeNearby activities: Train station across walking distance..ppl pay to take a ride through the beautiful mountain side 😀Walkability: Everything is walking distance. Everything u need can be bought in a. Short commute, beautiful places to seeFood & drinks: Hotel has all u need great food ,big 🍪 cookies yummm

What a cool quirky spot to stay! There were hikers staying overnight from hiking the continental divide trail. The owner is so sweet and kind and down to earth. There's a full kitchen (similar to what you have at home ) and laundry is available. The rooms are small and basic. They are being remodeled while sticking with the original 100+ year old building design.Best described as a boutique hotel in the making. Right now, a very clean and fun hotel with gorgeous scenery

Utterly picturesque, friendly staff, phenomenal food. Lots of small details in the building are very antique, and pleasing. Bed was very comfortable, and the blankets were better than those weird velour blankets you get at most motels. Inexpensive, and a good stay.

Great little spot to stay in Chama. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. They even held onto some of my thruhiking gear while I made a quick trip home to visit family. The rooms are simple and charming with an old school feel. Good food AND an ice cream spot with tasty pastries downstairs. Awesome spot to rest up and recharge.

Don't review this hotel unless you are ok to be attacked by the owner. No staff is available for any help. I was in at summertime and it was super hot and there was no AC and not even a fan. Could not sleep all night, had to go in my car to rest. Everything was old, outdated, and ugly to see. the shower was a plastic box with heavy disgusting plastic curtains. the furniture was old and disgusting, would never put my clothes in it.Edit.And now that I read the threatening response of the uneducated owner I know why this place is a dump. I guess his idea of adult is to go to an hotel and bring your fan, your clean furniture, etc.. the hotel is in a beautiful location too bad the owner is so unprofessional and so ignorant ( ignoring how to manage it). I wish some one give him some training, he really need it. Maybe they can learn from the Chama Trail Hotel. There you find: Very clean rooms, rustic hommy furnitures, excellent service, marble shower, amazing manager.

Super quaint! We are CDT hikers who were stuck in Chama due to snow in the mountains. Owner Joe was incredibly kind and helpful, we wound up being here for 3 nights and our room was super comfy and full of history! Joe knows tons about the trains, definitely the place to go if you’re here for the railroad!

I stayed here one cold February night and it was wonderful! Very cool historic building. Room was very clean and very comfortable and very simple. Expect good service and a clean room and a perfect location and you won’t be disappointed. But wait there’s more. Espresso, sweets and dinner is also offered and it’s all very delicious.

I have stayed at The Chama Hotel three times now while visiting Chama. I will definitely return again. The hotel is historic and rustic but completely charming and homey. It is in the middle of the tourist district of Chama and is steps away from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad station as well as restaurants and shops. The second floor has a large front porch that is perfect for watching the railroad and a spectacular view. The staff treated us like family and have been very helpful in providing sightseeing information and information on the history of the Chama valley and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. We sat outside a couple of times eating ice cream and talking with the hotel staff and locals; they really made us feel at homeThe rooms have nice touches. The beds were comfortable, there was K-cup coffee provided in the rooms, soap and shampoo, and great quality bath towels.A visit to Chama is a great way to "get away from it all" while still having good food nearby and a comfortable, homey place to stay.

I meant to write this over the summer, but better late than never! We stopped in Chama for a night on our way to backpack in the San Juans, and had a lovely stay here. It's an older building but it's charming and well-maintained. It was slow during our stay there, so they upgraded us to a bigger room that had a nook with a kitchen, sink, and fridge, which was really helpful for us. The town's pretty small, and thing's were especially slow due to covid, but we walked down to a local restaurant for a couple of drinks and had a nice time. The kitchen was nice enough to make breakfast for us in the morning on our way out. If we're ever coming through here again, I'd love to stop for some of the ice cream they were selling in the shop. Cozy place and good people - I'd gladly stay here again!

A great place to stay in Chama, close to the railyard. The rooms are quaint yet very comfortable, with quality beds, pillows, and luxurious towels in a bathroom that has immediate hot water unlike most hotels. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful with our late arrival and check in. Will definitely stay there again.

I stayed at this hotel for an extended amount of time and while I was there the owner was nice in the beginning. The longer I stayed Joe steadily got more greedy of another family to the point where he overworked one of them to death(this person also stayed there long term) Then there was another Named Carl, Joe kept Carl around even though he was constantly drunk. Carl soon died at the hotel about a little more after the first person was. Joe is a bad person over all and I would say that the building is also still standing by luck. I say this because it is a old box building held up by the rigidity of the walls and floors being held together with themselves and there is a hole in the floor witch takes out the structural integrity they keeps the building together. This old building is also held up by jacks above a deep well covered by old rotting wood. If I were to suggest a better place to stay I would suggest anywhere else but this old hotel.

Enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Room was clean and coffee in the room was a nice touch. Owner Joe was very friendly and let us know about the train history of Chama when I stopped in twice while thru hiking the CDT.

Was spectacular the food was outstanding although they do not have a regular menu. They do batch cooking. I think they offer 4 different meals to choose from daily all taste marvelous. It is also a mini ice cream parlor. I hear the desserts are wonderful, I have yet to try some and I can not wait 😊

We stayed here on September 2nd after hiking a section of the CDT. Sian and the rest of the folks there couldn't have been more welcoming. We had a great room, ate well, did laundry and even dried out tents. A very welcoming and hiker friendly place. I recommend it!

Very convenient to the Cumbres & Tultec Scenic Steam Engine Railroad. This hotel built in 1919 has stayed true to its historic roots while providing modern conveniences. Staff was very friendly and helpful with a small family-style dinner served.

Great location adjacent to the train station. Joe who is the owner is very helpful and informative and knows his trains. Rates are great and for being an almost 100 year old building it's still has style. Also the little bakery/kitchen has some hidden gems. If your tired and hungry this place can't be beat in all of chama.

I arrived a few minutes after 6:30 PM. Noone was at the front-desk. I waited a bit & hailed the lady. She said it was laid there in front of me. I didn't see it. She pulled it out & I didn't see it at first because a receipt was over. I owed $90.xx & told them I owed it. She told me don't worry Joe will run it with the card on fileFast forward to the next day. I got back & went to my room on the 2nd floor. I opened the door & a lady was in there. She started hollaring obscenities at me. I went down to try to figure out what was wrong. Joe went to the computer. Then the lady in the room came down & told him, "I demand an explanation." He told her there was no mistake. I said that's not true because they told me they'd take care of it, which clearly they hadn't. He didn't like me telling her that.He came from behind, pushing the bag into me, grabbing my left shoulder, saying something about hating customers, & proceeded to push me out the door. An utterly shocking experience with no regard for customers. I never got my charger, or one of my meds, or my touletries. I've never in my whole life experience anything like this before!

I love this hotel. Right across the road from the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad yard, the sights and sounds take one back 100 years. The owners are good, kind people. It's not fancy, but I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Chama
