Beautiful location, especially with peak fall foliage. I'd suggest snagging a spot on the river if it's available. We were only passing through and it was the end of the season, so pretty chill. Only minor beef is that the public restrooms were closed, yet they were still charging full price.

This place is amazing! My wife and i arrived for overnight stay and were supposed to be traveling west the following day however vehicle issues kept us there for a full month. First off, the park is immaculate. The owner Dale really takes pride in the upkeep and appearance of the RV site. All the grass, trees, roads, and facilities were very well maintained. The RV site is surrounded by cottonwood trees and nessels right up alongside a beautiful rover with trout in it! The leaf color in fall was brillant. Plenty of mule deer wondering the park during the day and the bugle of elk at night. The historic Toltec and Cumbres railroad runs right past the site and should be experienced by anyone staying here. The town of Chama is charming and has that old west mountain vibe to it. All of our RV hookups worked like a charm and the Wifi was good enough for our needs. The prices were very fair. The public restrooms were clean and in great working order. The employees there were super friendly and helpful as was the owner Dale who is very customer oriented. He even let us stay a little longer after the park had officialy closed until our vehicle was fixed and we were back on the road. Big shot out to Dale for that! It wont be forgotten. We hope we can make it back there again in the near future and can stay for an extended period again.

We foud this beautiful RV site on our way to Shiprock and Moab and we decided just to stay overnight and we end up staying for a month due to car trouble, the owner is super nice as well as the staff, good thing it was the end of the season and lots of campsite open, beautiful area, very clean and highly maintained, the main highlights was that every morning we and other campers gather in the riverside/bridge to watch Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad steam train everyday, I get super excited and was amazed of that train, felt like the I was living on the early 1880 era , we hopped on the train and it was a great experienced, indeed experience of a lifetime. Anyway, this RV site is highly recommended, quaint little town, 1 hour to Pagosa Spring and 2 hours to Santa Fe.🙌🧡Nearby activities: 45 minutes to Ghost Ranch, 1 hour to Pagosa Spring, 2.5 hrs to ShipRockSafety: The town itself is quite and very safe, the owner lives in the site.Walkability: Half a mile to downtown Chama

Absolutely fantastic rv park! It is so gorgeous under the huge canopy of the trees. Great sites. Easy check in. Being able to watch the narrow gauge train go by was such an added treat. We full time and it is hands down one of the best parks we've stayed at.Very reasonably priced as well!We will definitely be back!

Great rv park! Lots of trees, right on the river and great views of the Cumbres and Toltec RR daily trains. Super nice long term residentsA group meets in the outdoor pavilion to do impromptu music in the afternoons. They allowed my husband to use an instrument since he hadn't brought his own. Will definitely be back again!!

Well run. Nice sites. Clean and orderly. The hosts were very pleasant, kind and helpful. This is the first park I've been able to open my windows at night to sleep with no noise! The campground is very quiet. We had a back-in site right by the river, (loved the babbling water sounds) and could also see the train every morning and evening as it departed and returned to the station. I think this is probably the best park at which we have stayed. The only thing it is missing is a laundromat....but there is one a nice one in the village 5 minutes away by vehicle. I have heard that a change of ownership is in the future, and I hope that the new owners run it as well as the current administration. The park has numerous shade trees and is decorated with many antique train relics which offers a quaint and aesthetically pleasing environment. We hope to return again next year.

We have been on the road for almost 3 months and arrived at Rio Chama RV park and were greeted right away and escorted to our amazing site right on the river. Now that would by itself would have been great. But wait...we could see and hear the steam locomotive cross the train trestle as well! People come from all over for their train ride as did we the next day. Everyone here was pleasant helpful & even helped us back out from their beautiful tree covered park. We'll be back & the train ride is a must.

It was a nice little Park. Very clean and the owners are very friendly. It is right down by the river so our dogs went swimming every day. It's got a fenced-in dog area also.. It is a cool little town especially when the railroads is running I would give it three and a half Stars

Beautiful park. Very well maintained. It is just like a regular park. The site are very large with lots of trees as well. The staff is very helpful and friendly. In fact everyone in the park is friendly and helpful. The Cumbres Train ride is great to. At 4pm many go the bridge to watch the train come back from a run to Antonito, Colorado. My only issues are there is no laundry on site, there is an expensive laundromat 1 mile away. The WiFi only works if you are near the pavilion. The park closes on Oct. 1 so they are only open for 5 months. Not much to do in Chama and little shopping.

Summer 2020 - lots of big trees, friendly staff. It is nice and cool at this elevation. The Cumbres and Toltec train runs over a steel bridge right next to the park. IMO the park needs a little work - many of the spots could use a little more gravel and trees & bushes could use some trimming. We enjoyed our time there except it rained often and our spot was in one of the spots in 2 rows that are packed rather close together (our living room slide was about 2 feet from the neighbor's awning). Oddly, it appeared to me that they seemed to keep those 2 rows full most of the time and rows with a more room between spots were less occupied. The park is quiet and shady with very few amenities. The park is dog friendly. There were lots of dogs around the park. We would stay there again. Next time we visit, we would request a spot with more room.

We just went here to dump - not camp. Cost $20. Not my type of camping...too clustered with your neighbors, but they did have some spots overlooking the river, which looked nice.Noteworthy details: Spots near the river

Loved camping here! The staff was so helpful and friendly and the dog park was amazing. The only thing that I could think to add would be a playground area for the kids. I can't wait to go back.

Enjoyable and clean RV park. The staff is friendly. Each space has trees and scenery (lots of birds and squirrels). The dog park is amazing with trees, grass, and a dog house. There is easy access to the Rio Chama river. We have enjoyed our stay and hope to return one day.

I haven’t been to many RV parks but this one generally had a nice atmosphere. It had many large trees interspersed throughout, a completely enclosed off leash dog park, lots of grassy areas to walk dogs and was by the river. The RV spaces were very close to each other and it felt like we were too close to neighbors which in the time of COVID is not a good thing but also for general privacy. It had been raining so they let us have campfires which was nice.

We tent camped here though it is mainly an RV and trailer park. It's well kept and clean. Showers are available as part of the fee.The park abuts the Rio Chama, which was a perfect temperature for wading in. Not a swimming hole type of river. For some real swimming you can go to Heron Lake. The town of Chama is a few minutes away with pretty much any supplies you need.Hunting and winter sports are also abundant. For a real treat, if you have the $$, go on the Toltec and Chama Railroad. They have a few 1800s engines and cars that look really fun. The train whistle is very nostalgic sounding.

Wow all the other review wasn’t kidding about this place. I never ever write a review about any where I go but this place I have to do it. This place is for 75+ and over. The camp site is really nice but the full timer isn’t. My 2 yo accidentally walk over to pick up some wood and the guy came out and said don’t walk over the there people spaces. This camp ground is really nice but if you wanna stay a few day look else where cause your not welcome here

This is a beautiful park with GREAT, helpful friendly employees. However, some, not all, of the long term campers act as if it is their park and they have a set of rules all guest must follow. For example, many campers had dogs with them and everyone I saw was following the rules of the park. A long term camper out walking her dog complained to other dog owners that they were ruining her "peace and quiet" when their dogs barked at her's. We saw another long term camper telling a group standing by the gnome garden that they were "to close." They were not touching anything, just looking. But had made comments about how disappointing it was.

Very nice older park, very friendly staff. While we were here my father fell several times, the staff, especially Tom, were very helpful in getting an ambulance for him and keeping him calm. The stream train phases over a bridge just outside the park, there's a gate to allow for better photos.Well stay here again.

We broke down as we drove into the lot of the campground. They went above and beyond to help us out! The hosts and long time tenants drove us to NAPA for supplies and even to the next town over to get our rental. The bathrooms are not fantastic, but work for the most part. The campsites are lovely, and there's a crystal clear river out back you can play in to keep cool.

This campground it not well kept with a need to be mowed and trimmed. The sites are very close. The building containing the showers toilets and I believe laundry are closed supposedly because of COVID. I have been traveling for almost a month in 5 states and stayed at 7 campgrounds and this is the first campground with closed bathhouse(s). The last campground I stayed at in Dolores, Co, (Dolores RV Park) is the campground to strive to duplicate. One of the best campgrounds I have ever stayed at.When I returned from the train ride, I decided to drive through the campground before parking in my campsite. I have Thor Axis 24.1 and it is very easy to drive in tight places. It is a ford truck with a motorhome on the bed. I had driven through town exploring homes, streets, and the town in general. I then decided to explore the campground before parking in my site. All of a sudden a man in a golf cart pulled up beside me and told me I was not allowed to drive around the campground and escorted me to my site. I have been camping for 78 years and have camped in 49 of the 50 states and have never been treated so rudely by the camp administration. The campsites are junky and I expect they are full timers with a collection of items they keep outside. There are 3 campgrounds in and near Chama, NM and I suggest you choose one of the other 2.This is the first negative review of 100's of campgrounds I have stayed in. Wow, what a campground administration with VERY UNFRIENDLY RULES.

Our family are loyal customers who love this park and stay here every year. My husband and I don't have an RV, so we rent a cabin in town and drive to the RV park to hang out with my in-laws at their campsite. We make a point to observe all the rules. Likewise, we always do our best to be friendly and respectful to everyone we encounter. If only the owner (the older gentleman at the gate) treated us in kind. Every interaction we've had with him has been deeply unpleasant. He clearly does not want anyone to visit the park unless they are paying for a campsite, but rather than amend the rules accordingly, he treats visitors with suspicion and hostility. For instance, when we came to the booth to turn in our visitor's pass, he chided us for driving too fast--even though I was watching the speedometer in our car and we never exceeded the 5 mph limit. He then asked how many people were in our party, how long we'd had the visitor's pass, and when we were leaving for good. There was no reason for him to grill us like that. We hadn't broken the rules or been rude to him. This sort of passive-aggressive behavior makes no sense. As I said above, if he doesn't like people to visit relatives at the park, he should change the rules to prohibit this instead of being hostile. So, to any renters planning to have visitors to your campsites (or to anyone visiting renters in the park), be forewarned.

The park has a nice setting in the bosque next to the river, so there’s lots of trees and level sites. And the staff/owners are nice friendly people. However, the park is designed to maximize every square foot of space. So your view from your window may well be just looking at the camper next to you like ours was. The kids next to us were riding their bikes through our camping spot, which we didn’t complain about because everyone is just jammed in next to each other. Also several permanent residents in there with their stuff outside of their RV. Wi-fi internet doesn't provide enough bandwidth for streaming video so we had to use our cellular data to create a personal hotspot. The hookups worked well and it’s close to the tourist attractions in town.
