Hot Dogs done right at this place. Great prices. I tried an Alabama slammer and it threw me for a loop. Way to get the combination of flavors on point. Also the onions on a dog just simply good, but the star of the show had to be the chili dog. A winner for sure. A MUST try. The fries good and the dogs great. If you’re in the area stop and enjoy the menu. Classic joint.

We are new to the town, just moved a few months ago. I found this spot while searching for local places to support. I tried to do online ordering for pick up and I was very surprised with how easy it was to place an order on their website. I would much rather ordering direct from a place’s website as opposed to having to go through another service so I am very happy they have a solid ordering option on their website.Service was fast and friendly. The food was done way before pick up time and was ready on the counter when I arrived. The hot dogs were great! Nice snap to them, and the buns traveled home well. Had a nice steamed feeling to them as they wrapped everything for me.We also had chilli cheese dogs and they both were delicious! The fries were good and were a good portion size, but because I forgot to unwrap the foil off them when I picked them up they felt a bit soggy. Next time I will ask them to not wrap it with foil so they don’t soak up steam. Everything was hot and great though so there really is no complaint here, we just like crispy fries and I am assuming that’s what the fries were before they sat in my car for the car ride back so not knocking them for that at all.Happy with the experience and the food, we will be back for sure!

Found this small hot dog (mostly) place on Google. It is very small! Only about 6 or 7 stools at the counter inside! They do have picnic tables outside. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner who was ready for our order. He made some suggestions which we took and they were delicious. He knew everyone who walked in and joked with us all. Felt like a small intimate family get together. Will definitely be back often.Parking: Parking available on side of building.

Small, cozy establishment with big personality and bigger flavor. I've always loved Italian Hotdogs but this place just topped anyone I've ever had in my 70+ years. By far the best seasoned potatoes, melt in your mouth peppers and onions and 2 not 1 large grilled ( not deep fried) hotdogs ever. Owners personality is as outstanding as his dogs. Can't wait to try his other selections which looked and sound just as delicious. This ( literally) hidden gem is now my favorite hot dog joint and I thought I had tried them all . Wish you guys the best of luck and will be telling everyone I know about your place. Hope to see you soon and try more varieties from your menu. Congratulations on your new endeavor!!!

Contributor's note: Dave's Hot Dogs, although officially listed as being in South Amboy, is actually in the Borough of Sayreville. It is approximately 1/3 of a mile south of the town line, according to Google Maps. According to Alex, who was at the counter when I visited, the postal address is South Amboy, but if you need an ambulance, please call Sayreville.Dave's Hot Dogs is one of the top hot dog places in the entire state of New Jersey. Located in Sayreville, it is a most unpretentious structure; you would almost miss it if you didn't see the outside court of benches, but once you enter, it becomes a great experience. I had the pleasure of meeting Alex, who was in charge that time, and I found him to be a most engaging and affable person. It was a lull time of the day, but the staff was still busily handling the necessary food maintenance chores. The chili was being prepared in a new bowl, a supply of new dogs was brought in to replenish the pot and other miscellaneous details were being attended to. As for the building, it has, as I've mentioned, a very unpretentious decor. There are only eight chairs at the counter, and fortunately, a few tables outside, in case of overflow and good weather. The hot dogs are, I believe, Sabrett's, which are a top notch brand. In addition to my dogs, I took a cheese steak to go, and found it very substantial and surprisingly large and well worth it. All told, it's one place I definitely want to get back to when I get the chance.Vegetarian options: Not manyDietary restrictions: Did not notice any signs. Wouldn't expect any in a hot dog place.Parking: There is a parking lot both in front and around the corner on the Pine Avenue. One caveat, there is one of those hemp distribution so called health places at the other end of the mini mall, and apparently they take vehement exception to anyone, other than THEIR customers, parking in front of their store. Classless.Kid-friendliness: Super friendly atmosphere. They treat everyone like an old friend.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy entry. Limited room inside.

Been meaning to try them for a long time, and sorry I didn’t try them sooner! Chili dogs were excellent. The chili has great flavor and just the right amount of heat. Slaw was the perfect texture and flavor. Lots of different flavors of Stewart’s sodas, which always feels like a special old time treat. Can’t wait to go back and try more items!

Really cool casual place, tiny but has a few seats inside and outside. The choice of dogs is pretty big, we tried several of them and all were hot, fresh, and tasty. We actually first ordered one per person, but it was so tasty so we went for a second round :)) The staff is fun, fast and pleasant. The place is clean and cozy. I can totally recommend this place for grabbing a snack.

The owner Alex is very friendly and has enough funny stories to last for the length of your entire meal. Very nice place with lots of hotdog choices but also lots of non-hotdog options if wanted. Had the Texas dog with curly fries and it was delicious. Quick service got my food within 5 minutes of ordering. Best hotdog place in NJ easily! Worth the drive

A group of us Car Guys went to Wayne's Auto Body Toys for Tots Car Show in South Amboy and we had Breakfast at Dave's. The Pork roll and egg sandwich with a nice cup of hot coffee hit the spot. Alex and Alice the owners are super nice people and have some great stories. They are looking to expand next year. Stop in and try it, you'll like it.

Alex and Joe behind the counter, Father, son duo! Alex will "talk to anything with a pulse," his words! Great guys. Great hot dog selections. Sabrette dirty water dogs or get a grilled dog.I'm from the south, working next door and stopped in for lunch. Not too busy. Sat at counter (about 7 stools) with a couple others and had steady traffic in and out with to-go orders. Al is a conversationalist between and during prepping orders. Both gentlemen make you feel welcome and if you leave without a good feeling, it's your fault!Got the Alabama Slammer, Texas dog and fries (lots of fries).Went back the next day for two plain with cheese and jalapeños.Lots of other selections, but I don't go to steakhouses for chicken and I don't go to hot dog stands for cheese steak. Will definitely visit again if I make it back to the area.Kid-friendliness: Alex will talk about his grandkids all day and the one interaction that he had with a young boy that came in with his dad, was very polite and fatherly.

push cart hot dogs in a store like setting. they are serving sabrett hot dogs number ones in the toppings spill over the bun absolutely no looking for toppings at this place. The chili is great with a little hint of spice the barbecue onions are cooked to perfection then they offer multiple options for cheese if that's your thing. The prices are more than fair considering the overabundance that you receive with your toppings.oh yes in the gentleman serving the hot dogs is fun pleasant happy-go-lucky this was an absolute joy A hidden gem that I only wish I knew of sooner.

Hot dogs are great I ordered 3 chilly cheese onions and mustard dogs and 2 with ketchup and sauerkraut. They were just like I remembered So good toppings were fresh hotdogs are sabretts and the rolls taste like sabrettss too. Nothing like a good hotdog. It’s been on my mind for awhile to stop here. I use to live a few blocks away. I will become a regular customer.Parking: Plenty of parkingKid-friendliness: Plenty of bar stools the kids can spin around on.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy to get in no steps nice wide front door.

I honestly do not know how their reviews are as high as they are. I also don’t know how this place stays open. I’ve been going here for a couple of years, sporadically, and I’m honestly baffled at the people they have working there. Not only do they burn the simplest orders, but they don’t great the patrons when they come in, they look unhappy at what they’re doing, and they take forever to fulfill orders. When I walk in there I feel the apathy these girls exude. I remember sitting there once for 10 minutes before one of the girls turned around to face the counter. And when they did turn around I realized there was someone else waiting there even longer than I had who had not been acknowledged yet. It feels as though there is no training for employees on how to manage their shift, cleanliness standards and pulling you hair back instead of letting it hang over the food, catering to the public, being able to cook multiple things at a time and cook things efficiently and quickly.I believe they had one girl there last year by the name of Jessica or Jennifer. She was the only one that made me think this place wasn’t so bad. She always greeted me with a smile when I walked in, she was friendly, she seemed to take pride in her work and knew what she was doing.I’m just a bit perplexed at the people they hire to work there.Vegetarian options: They have French fries.Parking: There is street parking and a small lot to park in adjacent to the building.Kid-friendliness: They have 2 nice sized tables on the sidewalk to eat
