Unfortunate one star review for this place. I’ve now bought 4 different hamsters. The first two they sold us sick which absolutely traumatized my kids to see their hamsters suffer. The second pair we bought were living together. The gentleman who gave them to us told us they could since they already were companions in the store. A month later, one of the hamsters brutally killed her companion and just a few days later the surviving hamster was manic. My daughter called this place to find out how to help it as she was absolutely appalled to find her other hamster maimed and dead and wanted to desperately help the one she had left. The place told us they would call us back with help but never did. That hamster then died and my daughter once again found it dead and panicked once again. We called the place right after to complain and the employee told us to bring the now dead hamster and the other one if we still had it, to the store in a PLASTIC BAG for a refund so they can look at the animal. I’m incredibly unsatisfied with this store and their knowledge on the animals. My daughter is traumatized by these deaths and we got them for her in hope for them to be therapeutic. I’m beyond upset.

Review about Fish Department:Severly understaffed, to no fault of the individual employees but needs to fixed by upper management or whoever can. Rarely anyone in the fish department and when there was one, the person was struggling to get the fish for so long decided to just not get the fish because they were probably so stressed out already as is and would have just died. The fish they did get looked sickly anyway, which I have noticed over the years of shopping there the fish have gotten sicker and sicker.I recently got a fish from there and then within the next week all of my other fish have been passing away so suddenly, fish that have been in the same tank for years. Nothing else changed except for the new fish so I believe that one was sick and infected all of the others. Obviously this is just my belief but from now on I will not be purchasing fish from here anymore.Edit: thank you for the response, again I want to reiterate that this review is not to be towards one individual but really to corporate or whoever is in charge of hiring that more people are needed

The experience here is okay. There never seems to be an employee around when you need one. Registers are always backed up. Typically only one employee at register. If prices weren't sky high compared to other other retailers, I'd probably shop here more. I usually just come in for my dog to get a bath and have her nails cut. The price is pretty competitive compared to other grooming businesses. Although I just bring my dog in for a bath, I'd say they just do an okay job as well. I can't speak for the hair cutting. Prices have gone up about three or four times just this year alone. The convenience of setting up an appointment is easy thru the app, and they remind you which is good for people who are always busy.

Do not know how that store stays in business. Visited fish department 3 times. Never anyone there. Finally on the 3rd trip I asked a female cashier if someone can get me some fish, her response was " I will do it in a minute. It was with a typical entitled attitude. I do not know why it would have taken a minute there was no one in the store. Went to Pets martial and bought a 100 dollars of fish..

Mike was beyond helpful. I was totally clueless about setting up a small fish tank. My fish would've likely died the same day. Mike taught me all about the different fish types, glofish, water conditioner, and so much more. Didn't eat to upsell anything. And helped me make th right decision. I probably took up 30 mins of his day just trying to figure out what fish and fish tank to get. Thank you for all the help!

This place has product variety and a nice aquatics department. I like spending lots of time here checking out the aquariums and terrariums. The crickets and meal worms are top quality. I just wish there were more staff on duty or present. I'm always waiting for someone to get what I can't get myself. It's seriously frustrating in such a nice place.

The level of service I received was exceptional! Dawn was so knowledgeable, kind-hearted, and genuine. She made great recommendations that fit my needs and budget. Most importantly she did not make me feel judged for having previously fed my dog cheap food that is considered sub-par or unhealthy in general which was my biggest worry walking into the store. Thank you!!!

Went on 10/19 to get a cat pill shooter device that was listed as in stock on the website. The shelves were bare and no pill device to be found. I was checking out another product (feline nutrition paste) and it showed it expired in August of 2023. It was hard to shop as there were boxes all over but I walked around the store for a good 20 minutes and no one asked if I needed help. I found some pill pocket treats up by the register on my own. I asked the cashier about the pill shooter device being available online for in store pickup within an hour and if it was possible for anyone to check in the back for the item since I needed it for my cat that night. She said the person who fills online pickup orders went home for the day and no one was available to look for me. I returned home and ordered the same product online from a competitor and had it overnight shipped for the same price.Not sure if it was just an off night or the economy hit this location hard, but I miss the days of actually getting a specialty item from petco when I was in a pinch.

The staff is rated 5 star. Everyone I encountered has been friendly, helpful, and cares about the pets.Maybe it was poor timing, but the inventory for leashes, harnesses, and toys was limited. A large selection is listed online, so I'm not sure if the goal is to push traffic online. Attempting to log in to the website is so frustrating that I decided it is not worth the aggravation.

Staff is always friendly and helpful. Our new puppy had her first class and the trainer was wonderful. Only not fine stars because you can find many items for cheeper elsewhere, but it's very convenient to have it all in one place.

Been taking my dog here to get groomed for years. Always dealt with Michelle-excellent service. Dealt with new groomer and had issues and I don't feel I was compensated like I should have been by the store manager.

Petco Raritan is a big store but runs like a local welcoming establishment. I have always experienced very good service, especially in the grooming department with Abby. She is an awesome groomer who I trust with my temperamental little dog. She is accommodating, kind, and trustworthy. I can't recommend her enough. My dog's haircut always looks adorable and he is happy which is what's most important. Thank you!

I brought my pomsky for a trim and they shaved him without letting me know. It’s completely uneven and his coat is now ruined. I wouldn’t bring any pet here for a haircut.

I am 21 years old and I live on my own. I wanted to get a pet so I went to get one- I think it's reasonable for an adult who wants a pet to go to a pet store. The Manager Jay there spent all of his energy trying to scare me out of getting a fish and then after that reporting false information on hamsters to scare me out of getting one. He was convinced I was under 18 or looking to get something for a dorm and the pet would be coming right back in a few months. I appreciate that he wants good homes for these pets but upon denial of these judgements he should have backed off. I felt singled out and treated extremely poorly. I ended up getting a hamster. I love my little Cinnamon and am incredibly insulted to have been treated the way I was.

The older blonde woman who works in the fish section is pretty much the worst. She always makes us wait 20+ minutes to get help and has a real attitude problem, as if we are inconveniencing her by making her do her job. She also would not let me get more than 2 corys for my 20 gallon tank which could comfortably fit 8-10 if I really wanted to push it. I only wanted 4 originally. Its not that deep. The cashier was helpful though.

The cashier at the store refused to accept a return (under a week) because I didn't have a receipt. I had used by credit card and my Petco membership, which means I am in the system and my receipt is easily found on their system. This excuse is not acceptable and I will NEVER shop again at Petco. This is just plainly screwing over loyal customers who have the option to shop elsewhere. I don't know of any other store that refuses returns when you use a credit card and your membership. HORRIBLE policy.

i am DEEPLY dissatisfied with the service that this store provides. TO BEGIN WITH, I was going to buy a very cute little goldfish that was going to help me feel happy. But then i was denied the privilege to spend my money. The woman at the register was flat out disrespectful and ruined my day. I was with an adult so it wasn’t like i was underaged. I feel disrespected and discriminated against. boycott petco.

Particularly appreciate the cat litter refill station to reduce waste from buying a new container each time. Other stores have a wider selection of items but we find what we need here for our dog, cat, and reptile. Staff is also helpful if needed.
