Wonderful out of the way gem. Upon arrival I was struck by the unique outdoor decor and spent some time wandering around exploring all the sights. The interior gives no hint as to the wonder dining experience I was about to have!!!The appetizers were delightful, calamari, clams casino and shrimp cocktail. My wife had one of the specials a Mediterranean Gnocchi, while I had the prime rib/ crab imperial. I absolutely loved the Key Lime Pie for dessert. I’m not exaggerating when I say this was the best meal I’ve had in a long time.Out servers were attentive and personable. I appreciate that there was no pressure to hurry up and eat. It is a BYOB establishment so remember to bring your favorite wine/beer.Do yourself a favor and plan a trip to this unique eatery.

The food we ordered was good and even the food that were brought to other tables looked delicious. I definitely recommend the chowder as it had plenty of flavor. Can't wait to return to try other items. Cocktail could've been a little more chilled as they were semi room tempature probably due to the defrosting process but were still good.

This was our first time at the Red Eyed Crab and we loved it. The atmosphere is great, everywhere you look is a nautical item. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They truly want you to have a wonderful experience. Now for the best part, the food. I started my meal with the crab and corn soup. My wife had a salad. On to the entrees. My wife went with the crab pot. It is a variety of different crabs. Snow, Dungeness, and blue claws. She loved every bite. I went with the surf & turf special. Delmonico steak was a perfect medium with a nice size lobster tail. We really enjoyed our time at The Red Eyed Crab and will definitely be going back.

Highly recommend. $$$. Had a wonderful time at dinner with my parents and our service dog Iko. Great customer service. There were not very many tables in the restaurant at all, which is fine. meaning fewer people, but less reservations. The food was delicious, mainly the crabs and the seasoning. I enjoyed the potato and corn that came with it as well. They were very good at substituting because of the fresh seafood and the atmosphere of the restaurant, and the building itself was absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend. $$$

It was enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was average. Good, but not really overly spectacular. If you're a local, it could easily be a favorite place. However, you live a long distance as I do (about an hour), you might not think it's worth the drive.

When I came here two years ago, I ordered the New England clam bake and was unimpressed. The clams were overcooked and was like chewing rubber. I discarded the remaining clams for fear of choking. Flash forward two years later my bf and another couple (all locals) decided to have dinner here again. I am glad we did. I ordered the broiled shrimp and scallops and it was cooked nicely and tasted very good. My baked potato was perfect and also enjoyed the salad. BYOB too. I added two more stars for a nice memorable dinner.

Good soup, nice steamer pot, even if the snow crab was a little over cooked. Big clams, chewy and full of flavor. Now we know it's BYOB! Delightful wait staff, kitschy nautical decor and cool t-shirts! We'll be back for sure!Kid-friendliness: Very, plenty to look at!

Went out with a party of 4 all ordered different food, the salad and bread was good and welcoming, the staff was pleasant and attentive. It did seem like there were more cars in the lot than people in the restaurant, the food while delicious could have been served a bit warmer, by the middle of the meal it was cold. Otherwise, the parking lot was icy. Would definitely go again, regardless.

I can sniff out the real deal and this is it…good, homemade food with a nice presentation and cost. I got the mahi-mahi special and my man got the Delmonico steak special and both were outstanding! It was our first time here and we will be back for sure. It’s right on the water so it’s pretty but it’s laid back and comfortable. Good deal-we found a new place! 😄😃😃

We called on Saturday and was told that they aren’t taking any more reservations for the day but the gentleman on the phone said to come on over and they would squeeze us in. We drove 30 minutes only to be told they’re not allowing anyone to dine there, unless they made reservations. When we explained we were told to come anyway a man (who we didn’t get his name) but the girls said that’s not how it works and we would have to come back when they start allowing walk ins again 2 hours later. I understand you have policies, and those rules need to be followed to ensure diners get the best experience possible. But don’t waste peoples time. And maybe, if someone tells you they were told something by someone else who works there, maybe be willing to go talk to them. And little customer service in a customer service industry wouldn’t hurt. But it definitely hurt me and my family, including our elderly parents who drove an hour to our place, then a half hour to yours. If we would have been told from the start that they were too busy fine. But a waste of perfectly good night, is very angering. Thanks but no thanks. This is why we eat at chain restaurants I guess. It’s just easier and they’re friendlier. Red Lobster for the win, sadly enough.

About a month ago, I had the pleasure of dining at The Red Eyed Crab. I was sort of in the area. (nothing is really in this area!) But, this spot is really cool. Nice setting for a restaurant right on the creek, and very interesting and fun decor both indoors and out!Our wait was long. I had called for reservations, but told they were booked for the rest of the night. I was encouraged to come and try first come, first serve. That part was a bit strange. They could at least start a wait list by phone or online. Yet, we took our chances and then spent the almost hour wait talking with other customers and looking around at the nautical knickknacks and memorabilia.The food was the star anyhow! So, once we got in I have to say it was worth it. Something not advertised is that every meal came with a bowl of house salad. A lovely touch and a tasty starter. There was also a complimentary bread basket. We ordered a couple of apps that were very delicious! I loved the top neck clams served with butter. My daughter had shrimp parm, which she loved. I noted the shrimp were enormous! My husband had fried chicken, and he enjoyed it. Goes to show, they really have something for everyone and do everything they offer really well! My father had a steak and veggies. I went full seafood and wound up very happy! I really believe my dish was some of the best broiled seafood I have ever had! I had a shrimp and scallops combo that was just perfect! Everyone raved about the sides, which seemed summertime Jersey fresh & local. Great presentation of dinners, too. Just be aware of needing reservations and it is a BYOB.*** The only unpleasant note is that the ladies room was full of both living and dead flies. The room was filthy. I really wish this was not the case, but it is true. The sink and toilet looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a month and there was a really foul odor in the room. Here's hoping the kitchen is in a better state!

First timers at the Red Eyed Crab and we went for breakfast so I cannot comment about the seafood (yet!). I can confirm my son’s pancakes were delicious. My sausage & cheese omelette was great. Everything was just awesome and a great out of the way location will have you eyeing up the beautiful bay shore as you travel there. The coffee was great, the restaurant cozy. There’s something about sitting next to a creek with cattails abound on a cold cold day. The cozy comfy restaurant was great and we will be back. Thanks!

My Son took me to the Red Eyed Crab 🦀 yesterday. What a wonderful surprise for me. I had read that this restaurant served delicious food and the prices were very reasonable. Well, it's all true. We were greeted by a very friendly staff, especially Elise, our waitress. She was fantastic!!! Our meals were delicious as well as our appetizer, salad and soup.What a unique place inside and out. It was well worth the almost 2 hour drive from toms river. We can't wait to go there again. We recommend the corn chowder, the crab pot and the scallops in a cream sauce... so delicious!!!!

Such a quaint spot full of Delaware Bay history. Very friendly, helpful staff. Some of the best clams casino you can find anywhere!! Pricier fresh specials such as lobster and scallops, then affordable prices on their regular menu items. Kids and adults would appreciate a trip to this fun restaurant!!

Small out of the way cute restaurant. Everyone was very pleasant. Simple house salad brought to the table. Everything tasted excellent. Salmon, shrimp, stuffed mushrooms cooked perfectly. I had a rib-eye with the stuffed mushrooms. Rib-eye had great taste but unfortunately for me it was a 12oz steak with 6 oz of fat. So I had a 6oz steak for$36. I guess health-wise 6oz is enough? Asked for medium, and was little under done, but still tasted great. We'll stop in again someday, but will try a burger next time.

I've known this place was here since it opened and finally went. I feel like I've done a disservice to myself by waiting so long. The look of it is perfect. It has the appearance of an old fishing shack, but in a nostalgic way. Every member of the wait staff was friendly and was more than helpful. The food is, other-wordly, to say the least. We actually had to speak to the owner/ chef because the greens were so good. Everything is made fresh in the restaurant with the exception of the desserts, which are made by a woman who lives down the street. This place was so good that I'd bet the owner was in league with the devil because no one should be able to cook that way. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.
