To start I’m 19 my last pup passed away about about a year and a half ago I’m finally ready to love a new pup and I met the most perfect girl holly for the whole family everything was so smooth I live with my mom and my mom wanted a family dog she was going to let me pick to make sure I liked the dog that we wanted so she got approved and then I went and met holly my mom couldn’t make it she was working and then I fell in love everything seemed to be going smoothly until we heard nothing my mom reached out and no one knew what to say and then finally the director said it was bc I met the dog my mom wasn’t there the person with the name on application so therefore it had to by my dog and they don’t allow 19 year olds to adopt so therefore my mother must’ve been falsifying documents for me and they even tried to claim I don’t live with her when I have billing statements and my drivers license this is ridiculous I was denied a dog and totally heartbroken after already being approved just because my mom was at work when I picked out the pup which she told carol I was gonna do and she OKAYED IT these people seriously need to communicate I feel totally disrespected this dog was not just for me my mother was the adoptee there where no lies and every time they explained why I was denied they had a different reason

I can't thank Beacon enough for bring this amazing sweet girl into my life. We've had Penny ( Beacon called her Fallon ) for 11 months now and she bring so much joy and love to our family. Beacon is an amazing animal shelter!! Without them, we wouldn't have our beautiful girl. THANK YOU Beacon!!!

Heather at Beacon is extremely knowledgeable and the warmest dog-loving person I have ever met. She walked us through the adoption process from beginning to the end. I can call her anytime with questions. Beacon offers training sessions too, which will be helpful to us in the future.

Wonderful experience adopting a cat. They were thorough in vetting me as adopter and didn’t take too long to get back to me to make arrangements to pick up at a PetSmart. So happy with the kitten we adopted, thanks Beacon!

I have very fond memories of getting the most wonderful friend at Beacon Animal Rescue. She was my puggle Callilou. She passed away 2 years ago and I am still grieving her loss. This place let's the dogs out a few times a day to an enclosed yard where they can run free and socialize with the other dogs. It is a perfect place for pets while they are waiting for another home.

The amount of love and care Beacon shows its animals is amazing. The volunteers work hard to find the perfect fit for their animals. It’s a very special place ❤️

Excellent staff, wanting to match the right dog with the right family!!Willing to go the extra steps it takes for both the pet and the family. Not the super " overbearing " type that we have met before!!!!The dog we were matched with was a wonderful fit for our family!!!We all are in love !!!!The shelter was clean and the dogs were in large cages that went both inside and outside!!We came from the suburbs of Philadelphia, and we saw many shelters. This one was the best!!!!

I had wanted to adopt a dog for awhile but did not live in a place where I could. Once that changed I started putting in adoption applications. This was also the beginning of the pandemic so it was very difficult to even be acknowledged as an applicant. It took a year and before I could finally get a dog and while initially it was frustrating I am glad about the wait now since Beacon Animal Shelter helped me find the perfect dog and I cannot imagine life without her. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and they continue to help you even after the adoption with training and advice. Thank you Beacon Animal Shelter, 2021 is turning out to be the best year ever. Thank you for all you do and for my Gunther!

The volunteers (and their family members), who were on site when we stopped in, were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Although we learned that the young dog that we had gone in to meet was already adopted and scheduled to leave with his new family the following day, we had the opportunity to see other available dogs and then spend some time with one or two- Amazing! ...and, Thank You.

Gave me a child aggressive dog. When I asked for one that loved kids. He tried to bite my 3 year old grand daughter's face. For no reason. Thankfully he was still on leach from his walk when he attacked her. So my husband acted quickly and pulled him away. When we returned him to Beacon in his file there was a note about only adopting him to homes with teenagers no young kids. Apparently they were so determined to adopt their dogs they don't really care about harming children. I didn't ask for a refund and none was offered. To this day when we remember that attack we shudder.Be warned.

Update from original post that was deleted twice and then I wrote it as a review about their adoption process. After I wrote the review of my post that was deleted twice, Brian from Beacon called my last Thursday to "discuss" the review. It was not a pleasant conversation. Just to quickly recap...Beacon got in a beagle on Thursday, September 3rd. They didn't post it until Sunday, the 6th. My husband messaged them Monday morning about adopting her. I then called either Monday or Tuesday about the same thing. With no response until Wednesday when the adoption lady called and said, "we have several appointments for Lila, and if the adopters don't take her we will call you." That didn't sit well with me. On Wednesday I called beacon back after that message and left yet another message. Then, Thursday Brian, the manager, called me to hear my side. I went on to explain my feelings about what the adoption lady had said and said it is unfair that adopters before us can make an apportionment to meet the dog and we were pretty much shut out. Brian went on to say that they are a "first come, first serve," shelter. Though on their adoption application, it states, "There may be several applications received on one pet. Each application will be reviewed, and the pet will be placed in the home that we feel will be most compatible." That is NOT what they do. If you call first about a dog then mostly likely, whether you are a good fit or not you will be able to adopt the dog. The only time it goes down the line is if the adopter doesn't want the dog. I was on the phone for 35 unpleasant minutes with Brian saying the same thing over and over again. During the conversation he said at least 4 times, "It seems like you are upset your not getting the dog." After about the third time, I said, 'oh, so you made up your mind and we are not getting the dog?" He went on to say..."you seem upset..." of course I am upset I am not getting a chance to meet the dog. Brain also kept saying "sorry you weren't first." For all you potential adopters from Beacon, realize if you are not first in line the chances of you getting the loving dog that you want so much will never happen with their policy. Which is it Brian, first come, first serve or do you find the home most compatible for the dog?? You give garbage and lies, I give facts and truth. Before we ended the conversation he wanted so badly that I delete my review because it will hurt them. I agreed on one condition that he tell me where we are on the list. He agreed and called me back a little while later to tell me we were number 4. On Saturday, I had messaged them asking what number they were at for the adoption of the beagle....realize it has been a week since the dog got there and it was still there, so when i messaged them on Saturday at 7:30 in the morning, I got no response and a little while latter I was blocked from posting, messaging and liking. How to run a charity that depends on the public. You should be ashamed at how you handle this whole situation. I will not delete this review and it is being posted on google and anywhere I can. Horrible shelter with a manager that lies.

We rescued our MinPin Roscoe from this shelter. They are professional and genuinely care for the animals in their care. If anything, I wish I could give more to help them out, these people put their all into it. Keep up the good work.PS, I cannot help but notice that the ONE bad review on here comes from someone who didn't adopt from here.

Adopt don't shop! Beacon is a wonderful place and we all volunteer just because we love and care for the animals! Beacon works hard to find each animal the perfect owner and new Furever home! Make adoption your first option!!!!!

Great shelter. The volunteers really have a love and connection with the animals. It is no kill and they house all animals until they are able to find forever homes. It runs completely on donations.

Disappointing- provided all paperwork necessary to just prove adoption is ok and get disqualified on a technicality. Leaving it at that.
