I really love this location. All the staff are always friendly and helpful. I took my dog for grooming here for the first time because her regular groomer is over an hour away. They did a great job but she didn't have that groomer smell, no bows, no bandana, and was brought out with a lead looped around her neck. For $65+ (too much for basically a wash and cut), I expected more. And she definitely did not have matts. I guess it's back to her regular groomer.

This Petco has awesome employees, everyone is nice and helpful. It's well stocked, be there are plenty of animals to meet. I'll admit, it's a hard location for people who drive since parking is very difficult in the area. Otherwise though, it's a great store.

Everyone here is an absolute professional! I am new to pet ownership, and recently rescued a dog without really knowing too much of the equipment needed. the staff here walked me aisle by aisle and made a check list of everything i needed, what corners i could cut and they never tried to up-sell me on anything I didn't need. the groomers were amazing at getting rid of all the matted hair and while my dog is aggressive, they handled her with ease! the whole staff is knowledgeable and always eager to help and work with your budget.

Good clean store with very friendly and helpful staff. Always get asked if I need help when I'm there. Never any issues finding what I need with a nice rewards program if you sign up. This location had a vetco service for more than just vaccines offered sundays. It was great but I will warn you that it will get busy so go early to circumvent waiting on-line. If you have someone to go with I say take advantage since if line is long can always send someone to next door whole foods.

A very nice addition to Newark as it is hard to find a place to pick things up for our fuzzy best friends. The staff is always incredibly helpful and kind. I'm very pleased that they have so many brands for cats.

My neighborhood petco. I come here all the time. It is such a huge place! A third of the store is dedicated to dogs, a third is dedicated to cats, and the last third is for small mammals, fish, and reptiles. They have a self washing dog station. They don't seem to have a lot of employees however, I dont think this location gets very busy. I usually go in the early morning right after opening, and it is such a nice atmosphere to shop. Pretty standard pricing. Nothing too expensive.For anyone with small animals (guinea pigs, hamsters, etc) this location doesn't have a huge selection for small mammals, so you might not find your usual favorite items. I personally have guinea pigs and this location doesn't carry a lot of variety in Timothy hay. They do have enough selection for me, but I probably not for everyone.

The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and they have a large variety of food and supplies for my cat. I am heartbroken that the Newark store will be closing. This is a great loss for me and other pet owners. We will be sorry to see you go. :(

First time. Haircut was terrible from a guy. I didn’t even recognize my dog.Went back second time and the lady said she didn’t have any of my information. She was rude to me on the phone then said she was going to put me on hold but instead transferred me to the voicemail.I was going to give them a second chance—but not anymore. I will travel to PetSmart instead.So disappointed.

All of the staff here are friendly and knowledgeable. Huge selection for many different specie of pet. Petco itself can be more expensive than ordering from say amazon but I enjoy my routine trips to this store. DEAR PETCO- Your employees here should all get some sort of customer service store bonus.

This location has been closed. It was a fine store Unfortunately downtown Newark is just not ready yet for a major pet retailer of this scale. As a Newarker, I still give it 4 stars because they gave the city a chance. Stained or 2 years of slow sales trying to make it work. They were ahead of their time.

Worst customer service I had ever encounter starting with the manager. He had no manners at all, and didn't know that the customer comes first. I promise him that I would never set a foot at that store again. I prefer to go out of my way to buy my pet needs.

I’m very iffy when it comes to my dog. The groomer Hope tried to say I did not have my dogs vaccinations and it’s clearly in the computer. She had to contact my vet for proof. I let that go. When I come to pick up my dog she complains my dog is too hyper to be groomed, she gets upset when you touch her feet. I know this, Maltese do not like their feet touched. I’ve done my dog myself for 6 months because of the feet issue, but you guys want me to sedate my dog because she is too happy for you? Tell me how training is going to help? I did training with Petco twice. My dog will always be hyper, she sleeps for 20 mins and is still hyper. Just say you don’t have the time and patience. It bothers me that people these days think medication is going to fix everything. I gave it 3 stars because I can get other things there, watch who helps you because at times some people don’t know anything about their animals. I dont think the groomer understands that some dogs when you shave them you’re not supposed to shave them where you see pink. Luckily its not summer because my dog would have gotten sun burn. I said as short as you can make it but not bald. I choose not to buy fish here because they look sick. If you know your pets than you definitely will not need assistance from some of the staff.

I always go here for everything for my pet's; we have a dog, cat, an fish. An they have what i need for them all. But i don't like the grooming that i got for my dog. Other than that their great.

I placed an online order on Sun, the store was closed but the instructions stated once the store is open I will receive a confirmation email when ready for pick up. On Monday I still did not get the confirm email I call customer service and the rep tells me my items are ready for pick up. I get off work and dart downtown newark to pick up my order. The associate proceeds to then go get the items I ordered, only to find out 1 of the items they did not have. I politely asked for them to cancel the entire order. As a customer the lack of customer service is appalling. I had stopped shopping at petco because of a similar situation, having this done to me solidified me never ever returning back to purchase from Petco. I will take my hard earned money to a well deserved business who knows customer service.

Awesome location inside the new Hahne & CO building!! Great atmosphere. The employees at this location are very attentive. They have great customer service. This location also offers pet vaccinations for dogs and cats!!

I've had a really poor experience here for groomind and dog training.Cons: I purchased a puppy training package back in May. Everytime I would come in for my appointment the person doing the training was a no-show. I have left my number multiple times to be rescheduled, but everytime I do she still flaked. They hired a new trainer, but he too failed to call me to secure a time. When I tried to get a refund (after 3 months of this back and forth) a manager, Chris, was rude and dismissive.Grooming is a terror to schedule. The online portal doesn't work and everytime I call no one calls me back or the groomer is out sick. :( I mean seriously. I've called 6 times in the past 3 weeks and the groomer has been out sick or on vacation + No one has returned my call.Pros:- Faith is an awesome groomer- It's so convenient in terms of location- Staff (excluding Chris) is always kind and helpful- Large selection of items + plus I can buy online and pick up in storeI'll continue going here because of the convenience, but if you have a car skip this location and go somewhere else.

About time Newark gets a proper pet shop. It's located inside the huge renovated Hahnes building across from a gorgeous, historic, almost 300 year old church. The Petco staff is friendly and very helpful. They stock all top cat food brands that I used to buy on Amazon exclusively. I feel good supporting business in Newark. There's no reason for any Newark (or neighboring city residents) to continue shopping at any other faraway Petco (closest one I think is West Orange). There's so much shopping to do in downtown Newark. Whole Foods is on the corner on the same block. They also have a great dog grooming service (I stood and watched), as well as cats up for adoption. Glad that big businesses are investing in Newark.

They have sick guinea pigs with the healthy guinea pigs. I brought this to the attention of a employee and all he said was " yeah it's sick " and walked away. As a guinea pig owner I am very upset on how these guinea pigs are being treated. The males are also being put together in one enclosure and were becoming very territorial and fighting. Which is not a good situation for them to be in. Overall the treatment of the guinea pigs is NOT RIGHT.
