Great shelter filled with the most adorable kittens and adult cats. Super easy to call and walk in to meet your future buddy. I was searching for a kitten for a while until I finally came across Humane Society in Lyndhurst and it was a match made in heaven the second I walked into the room of cats. I found Clementine (now named Luna) so easily and she was everything i hoped for. She is now home and adapting well after the first few days. The people there were such great helps and even let us visit her while waiting for her shots to be done. A great shelter to look into and visit!

We adopted 2 precious kittens here yesterday after we sadly and suddenly lost our 11 year old cat. The volunteer was very caring, helpful, kind, and patient. Our two daughters and myself took quite a awhile to pick our kittens. They have a lot of great kittens and cats to choose from and they all look healthy, playful, and happy. The adoption process was smooth. The fee was $150/kitten cash only so grab some before you go. That may seem like a lot but it’s good considering they have been dewormed, first shots, fiv/leukemia tested and you get a $20 spay/neuter certificate to have the kitten fixed when proper age. Also it supports the facility in caring for the animals and rehoming them. They have some beautiful friendly adult cats in need of a home as well. They were all very happy and healthy and waiting to be adopted. Check out beautiful Buddy if you go. He is so handsome. I wanted to take him home too. ☺️ Our kittens are adjusting well and are very happy. I highly recommend this place!! Update- 3 years later…I wanted to add that our boys are still healthy and thriving! We love them so much!

What a wonderful place! People there are super helpful and knowledgeable. The adoption process was smooth. We were able to visit our kitty while waiting for her to go through her medical checkups. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful facility! The animals are so well taken care of here. Steve, who was always running things when we were there, is fantastic with all the animals and has been so incredibly helpful to us through the adoption process. He’s even helping us figure out the world of pet insurance! So thankful for this place, their care, and for our new sweet gorgeous kitty!

Very friendly, loved seeing the cats but this puppy named Puma was my favorite buddy. Not sure if he's still there. But he is such a lovable puppy 🐶 Whoever takes him home will be very lucky. Note: Puma the puppy was there a few months ago, so not sure if he's still there. The employees are so kind and polite and let you really spend time with the animals.

Came here looking for a dog for my mother in law. They only had one small and who wouldn't be a good fit. So, i asked if they had cats and they showed me the backroom. MAN!!! I messed up. lol I fell in love with one cuddle bug called Hansel. As soon as I picked him up, he just started purring and snuggling. I fell in love immediately. I knew I could not go home without this kitty! So we have a new addition to our family. The man working was really kind and the blonde woman was super sweet as well! The cats are well taken care of and they seem happy for kitties in cages. The sale area needs a dusting, but I understand how busy they are and being short handed it gets lost in the shuffle. They do excellent work and they care about their fur babies!

This shelter is by far the best shelter I’ve ever been to. No dogs were available at the time of my visit but I was looking more into kittens anyway. I found my little boy Jasper there and were going on day 4 strong! He is full of energy full of adventure and he is up to date with all of his shots, tested negative for feline aids, passed his feces examination test and I have all of his info in a packet given to me by an employee by the name of Steve. Steve was extremely helpful, very kind and took the time to explain thoroughly every detail of Jasper and his file. He took the time out the help me pick toys, litter and food that would satisfy my Jasper and help him adjust to his new environment. He also gave me a list of veterinarian offices near me to get Jasper his following shots in the upcoming months. I am extremely satisfied with the customer service provided by Steve and I would recommend this very well organized shelter to EVERYONE especially if you are looking for a kitten. 5 STARS

While this shelter is in an old building, the staff really cares about the pets. The cats appeared to be happy there and weren't stressed out. Many cage doors were open and they could come and go as they pleased and were playing with each other. We were treated very well and our new family member is terrific.

We adopted our beloved cat here. He's amazing and we love him dearly. However, the woman running the place is kind of abrasive and rude which doesn't help the pets get adopted. We recently donated $500 to the shelter for our wedding and in honor of my aunt who passed away suddenly and was a huge animal lover. They never acknowledged the donation. Im not expecting a parade in my honor, but a letter or something of thanks would have been nice. Especially since I explicitly wrote on the check this was in honor of someone who died.As much as I love my cat, I wouldn't adopt here again. They also told us to take a kitten my husband found on the street to a KILL shelter when they didn't have any room for it.

I just want to say that this shelter takes care of all their pets. I went to find a kitten and I did. Thanks to Steve, who was very happy to assist me and my gf. The process was a lil long but it was all worth it. Thanks to Steve and all the staff who takes care of all the pets in the shelter.

I adopted two male orange tabbies from this shelter in 2016. We’ve decided to adopt another male tabby this year, 2020. The staff is very kind and the space is beautiful and organized. In 2016 it was a little run down looking but the guy I dealt with in 2016 (Steven) is now in charge (he has gone on to receive Veternarian training since I was last here in 2016) and the space looks much nicer. All the cats and kittens look healthy and happy. This facility is run 100% only on donations and is a no kill shelter. Needless to say, Considering I am a returning customer, I would highly recommend this shelter to a friend. We adopted our new Tabby, Leon recently and the shelter is allowing us to pick him up today (we asked to wait until after Thanksgiving).* just a side note, most of the reviews on here are very positive. The negative reviews are pretty silly in my opinion, I.e: “I found a wild turtle in the wild, tried to bring it to this shelter and they refused!” LolOr when someone says they had a great experience but only gives two stars. The best is the guy writing two + paragraphs because the staff failed to diagnose an elderly cat with heart failure (I’m in the medical field - this is not that easy to diagnose when you don’t have a Veternarian onsite). Just remember, these people are working solely on donations, they are watching the animals closely and getting care for them from a local veterinary clinic. They are a no kill shelter and seem incredibly dedicated and kind hearted.

I wanted to adopt a cat, and this humane society was the only shelter I called that had a warm vibe over the phone, and also located within my area. I did pay a pretty penny $150 for the adoption. But it's not in vain. You get supplies to bring home. ( p.s bring your own pet carrier) and papers to show she is vaccinated and spayed) Over all, I would not trade the experience. As a first time cat owner, Gypsy is everything I dreamed of ❤

We adopted a lovely cat from the Humane Society and went back last Saturday to see about another. The cats are beautifully taken care of. Carol and Stephen do a wonderful job. We are going to adopt soon and would only consider going there.

I just adopted a beautiful Shih Tzu from them, and I highly recommend this facility. I've been recently working with many rescue places that have lied to me and I didn't get the dogs sure to hidden health issues. But all I found at Bergen county humane society was friendliness and genuineness from the very first interaction. I spoke to 4 different people, and each one consistently said the same thing, and were all so very helpful. They truly care about the animal's welfare. I highly recommend!!

I'm originally from the south, so our Humane Society is a government run facility so I was shocked to say the least. There is a reason this place doesn't get any state, federal or local funding. We were looking to adopt a kitten and were told there was only one we could adopt and the price went from $75 to $135 I guess because it was the "favorite." Anyway, long story short we were told we could get one from the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro, but they wouldn't be healthy or well taken care of. We went to check it out, it is 100% cleaner without the 30 cats running around loose and the staff is courteous and professional. Avoid this place and go to the Bergen County Animal Shelter to find your fur babies.

This place does the best they can with no funding! They take in dogs and cats and kittens and care for them, walk them, shelter them and love them...when other people don't! They also do not adopt a dog out unless a home check is done. They are very thorough. Small place, but definitely recommend adopting from Kathy and her team.

Quick process except, don't adopt pets that need to be spayed/neutered because when time comes for it, it will be a total headache, none of the "participating" vets listed on the $20 spay/neuter program sheet are actually participating and the ones that do, don't have any availability (even if you call them on the very day they ask, as early as possible.) This whole thing has been a complete nightmare. This is the first shelter I know that doesn't have a vet on-site to perform this kind of surgery since, this is already included in the adoption fee. Then, they would offer you some "low cost" voucher that ends up costing you over $100. Total scam!

Paid 150 bucks for a kitten on National adoption day at petsmart. All the kittens were sneezing and when asked about it the women from the humane society told me it was no big deal that all the cats are sneezing. 2 weeks later he cant open his eye because of some kind of mucus coming out, he sneezes uncontrollably and wont eat sometimes. When asked about this the humane society could not have cared less. So if you want to spend an outrageous amount of money for a sick cat to have to turn around and spend a bunch more at the vet.

Came here because I'm away from my own cat. Donating to this place, the worker was very knowledgeable and the cats were all relaxed and happy. I wish I could take some home! He was very nice about letting me come back when I wanted to give these cats company :) they're all sweethearts

Not a good experience. 2 phone calls, pleading for help... not to TAKE a local cat there, but to advise me as what to do do. Nothing. No call in response. I'll take my Donation elsewhere.
