My experience with this shelter was amazing. I originally went in looking at one dog but when I came back a few days later he was adopted so they suggested I see another dog that they recommended. She was perfect. I was just recovering from a debilitating stroke & was looking for a companion to share my day with. That was 13 years ago. She was an amazing, sweet soul & a staple in our household. Her personality really blossomed after about a week of her coming to be a part of our lives & she had me laughing every day since. We've donated throughout the years & the staff has always been very nice & helpful. Now that my furbaby had crossed over to Rainbow Bridge I'm thinking of volunteering here to pay it forward. đŸŸđŸŒˆđŸ˜Š

This shelter is a dedicated group of individuals. We have adopted several of our furry family members from here. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help where needed. in these times of limited resources and volunteers, they do a phenomenal job caring for the animals in need! Check them out for your new family member!

We reached out interested in a young husky that had been at the shelter for several months. We were told that he had some food aggression and didn’t always like to be put back into the kennel. Things we can work on. What they didn’t tell us is that he attempted to bite the workers and that they had problems with him in the kennel. They didn’t tell us that till we returned him two days later after he had bit myself and my daughter. They allowed a dangerous dog to be adopted and did not tell us. We could have been terribly hurt. We never would have taken the dog if we had known he bites. I feel horrible that I put my family in danger. And on top of all of that they will not refund the adoption fee.

We had a situation with an outdoor neighborhood cat. Gloucester County Animal Shelter was able to work with us on getting her back and now she lives comfortably in our home. They were really great and we appreciate their help.

I read reviews and decided to do my own research and ask around to some friends in veterinary medicine for their opinion on this shelter. I couldn't have been more pleased. Incredible and kind staff. They really care about the animals. On top of an awesome and heartwarming experience, their adoptions fees are so affordable. My new buddy Lance was neutered and has all of his shots. All of his paperwork was handed to me in a nicely organized folder. They gave me a collar, a leash, and a gallon baggie of the food he'd been eating to mix in with the food I got him so it doesn't mess with his stomach. 10/10 would recommend. Don't hesitate, there's a bunch of dogs and cats here that could be your new best friends.

Adopted our new cat from here! The staff is super friendly and informative. Forest was clean, had all his shots and microchipped seamlessly. I would recommend anyone to support their local shelters!

I was just given excellent advice from a woman by the name of Sue at the shelter by telephone. It was a very complicated situation regarding an adorable feral cat that has been living on our back patio. We’ve earned “Peanuts” trust and now thanks to Sue I know exactly what to do so that Peanut đŸ±can be a part of our family’s current which includes LolađŸ¶and ButtonsđŸ±! Thank you again Sue.

I first met everyone in October when I was helping my group sell at there open shelter event. I saw 2 adorable Guinea pigs and proceeded to adopt them. I came home with the cuties. Then I was helping out at the Old Stone Village Christmas event and met a little dog that stole my heart her name was Penny. I put in an application and was happy when they said I was approved. I live iIn Trenton and there are shelters here and I have tried but they were never as friendly and I never heard back from them. At Gloucester shelter they are very nice friendly people that care about thier animals they care for. Thank you so much she is so good and very spoiled and has adjusted here in Trenton as if she has lived here her whole life.

This place is weird. I was interested in one of their dogs and when I called, they asked me questions and were asking me if I had experience with the certain breed. I said yes. But they kept asking me the same question constantly as if I was going to change my answer? The lady told me she would give me a call back and I said okay. She gave me a callback and told me that the dog was not up for adoption. But on their Facebook, it said they were. She told me “Well, I don’t know why it says that. We wanted a rescue. Someone else got him as a rescue. He isn’t adopted still.” And I was like ??? So they just wanted a rescue, okay, fair. Then she proceeded to tell me that the man who took the dog in as rescue had more experience in the breed. I literally told them I had experience in the breed so many times. I own a dog of that breed as of current.I was like okay well, that’s fine, I guess. My sister wanted to confirm the same day so she called them and they gave her a different answer they gave to me. They told them that the dog was already adopted. They didn’t tell me that at all? They told me he isn’t up for adoption and wasn’t adopted
Not only that , but the lady on the phone told me “Oh, I have knowledge in all sorts of different breeds and I handle all sorts of dogs and personally, I think this is just luck because I wouldn’t want to handle a dog of this breed anyways.” Like wut? For a shelter, you’re supposed to be happy and wanting me to adopt, you’re not supposed to have me steer clear of an animal because of the breed. The shelter later on updated their Facebook a week later saying he was adopted. Not once have they told me that he was adopted. They gave me an answer of “we were looking for rescues, not adoptions.”I don’t know. The conversation was weird. The people are weird. I’m just offended that they were not up front with me. If they told me that the dog was already adopted then sure. But they didn’t.

Always good to save an animal in need, however this place makes a business of animal rescue. If the high prices weren't enough, rescue staff want every detail of your life throughout the application process, including the rights to your first born child and a DNA sample.Probably easier and cheaper to buy a dog off craiglist.

Great place to pick your new family member. The people there treat these pets as their own. Please go there and pick your pet. Let's remember don't buy just adopt. These pets need you more then you will ever know and given them a second chance you will not regret it đŸ’–đŸ€—đŸ’–đŸ€—

This review is in regards to the animal control, not the shelter. We rescued and adopted a dog a few months ago. It is old, gentle, can barely make it up the stairs, can care less if people are around and about the most friendly dog you could ever ask for. My daughter was walking him 3 weeks ago and a little dog in the neighborhood was out and my dog ran towards it. This caught my daughter off guard and she let go of the leash. My dog ran up to that dog where another adult picked up the leash, gave it back to my daughter and she walked the dog back home. That should have been the end of the story. However, for some unknown reason, the neighbor with the little dog called animal control and said my dog bit her dog. Animal control came and said there was no evidence of a bite but they still called it a "bite with no broken skin". Animal control issued me a citation for an underage child walking a dog (now I know a kid has to be 13 years old to walk a dog).Thankfully there was another neighbor (the one that picked up the leash) and she told animal control that this is a false report and the dogs never even came into contact with each other. I got a copy of the report and in it, it says that I said my dog bit that other dog. This is a false statement. I called animal control to complain about the report stating that I said something that I didn't and asked if there is a witness confirming that the ONLY thing that happened is that my daughter dropped the leash, there was no bite and my dog didn't even jump up or come into contact with the other dog, why is it still being called a bite? The officer told me that "I'm lucky, if it was him he would have issued me more tickets" (even though NOTHING happened). What do you know, 2 days later, I get another ticket in the mail (failure to register). It is true that we didn't register the dog yet (we have at this point), but it is very unprofessional for a person in power to be upset that I called to complain and reacted by sending another ticket in the mail. This is an abuse of power and vindictive. So now, I have 2 tickets (1 on the day of the incident and 1 that came after I called to complain), have to take time off of work to go to court (court appearance required), all because of a false accusation. The fact that I have a 3rd party witness who put her statement in writing, means nothing.

Extremely unpleasant. The shelter itself is kind of dirty, staff is very unfriendly. Put an application in, got informed we were approved. Told them we wanted to see a cat the next day. Me and my family arrive and we are told they were having surgery... very vague, very shady, one of the highest kill rates of county shelters. This place needs some serious revamping. From the staff to the facility itself.

I searched a few different shelters by my home when my cat went missing and was given a tip to call here. I called and spoke with Al and he was so helpful, he told me there were 2 cats that matched the description of my Binx! Sure enough when I went in it was him and I was so happy to bring him home to our family! The staff was very attentive and caring with my cat and I am so glad he was well taken care of when he was lost for a day! Thank you so much!

Rude unorganized staff. Very curt over the phone and though I gave them all relevant information about my living situation to adopt a dog when I came in to do a meet with my own dog, they acted like they didn’t know. Then they brought the dog out, told me he wasn’t good with other dogs (though it said otherwise on the dog’s adoption page), and after telling us it wouldn’t be a good home, kept repeating how they would eventually euthanize the dog. Terrible staff, and really at the end of the day it’s the animals I feel bad for. They deserve so much more than this unorganized facility run by disgruntled employees that you can tell don’t care.Oh, and after my visit with my dog, he came home with a case of kennel cough.

Gloucester Co. Animal Shelter has a very caring staff who give the best possible care to all of their animals. With every visit I have found the cages and dog runs to be clean, and the animals well attended. Food is fresh, bedding is clean. The staff love the animals as their own. What the Shelter is lacking are volunteers to foster cats/kittens, dogs/puppies in their own homes until they’re ready for adoption. Volunteers to help walk dogs and help with daily care. Have a little spare time? Volunteer at ur local animal shelter!

I've had KINGSON approximately 6 hours. He LOVES EVERYONE and everyone LOVES KINGSON. He's calm and understands everything, so far. He prefers People over food and is loving life!! We begin our training class Thursday at 9:30. I prayed and my prayers were answered. I prayed for a healer and plan to have a therapy dog. I KNOW in my soul, KINGSON will make a Wonderful therapy dog! Stay tuned for updates. The staff were so helpful and just plain ol GOOD PEOPLE. So much so, I signed up to become a volunteer.

My boyfriend and I went to several shelters looking for a cat and by far this one was the worst! We were only allowed to look at the cats and were not able to interact, which is ridiculous! How are you suppose to get a sense of the cats personality? When we filled out an application, we mentioned how we lost 2 cats 2 weeks ago. The woman reviewing the application started to lecture us on what should and shouldn't have been done when they were alive. She probably meant well, but it's called tact and she should have shown some sympathy instead of berating us!

I had adopted a kitten, which they matched very well with me he is amazing my issue is 2 months later I have realized I didn’t just come home with him but also a flea infestation. The week after i got him i suspected it but couldn’t tell as the infestation was not yet big enough in my home to know. Now, I just got Atleast 60 fleas off of him.

Good experience. We adopted our cat from there without any issues. Went very smooth and staff was friendly and informative. The cats were in very clean cages. We went to Popcorn Park to adopt and that place was so smelly and dirty compared to here. We are so in love with our kitty!!

Shelter is great- animal control is a monstrosity to deal with. We had a rabid raccoon in our yard this morning, pursuing our much smaller dog. It took animal control an hour and a half to get to us while the raccoon walked up and down our backyard. The girl that showed up to catch it brushed it off saying it was in early stages of being rabid and did not seem concerned. She wound up making it climb up a tree and then set a trap for it saying they would check again tomorrow morning. Later, the raccoon got down and was walking around. When I called animal control again letting them know and to please call me and confirm that they arrived at the house and caught it (I needed to go to work) I received no confirmation call but the trap was gone when I got home. Upon calling their answering service, who ever answered their phone told me “this was not an emergency” and “I only answer the phones here I don’t know what to tell you” still don’t know if my backyard is safe or not!!!! TERRIBLE SERVICE. Just call another county if you need animal control.

Came in looking for a cat. The staff was cantankerous. Showed me the cat room but told me none of them could be adopted. They weren't ready, she said. I had to fill out an application which I did. They then proceeded to tell me that I didn't care for my previous cats correctly and I wouldn't be approved. They were 10 yrs old and died from cancer as if I could have fixed that. They are denying a cat to loving home where their alternative is to shovel another one into the furnace as this is a kill shelter. If you're an animal lover avoid this place you'll be disheartened and maybe a boycott will cause a restaff.

The experience that I went through to give a kitten a loving home was just unbelievable! I had a cat since I was a little girl and I've always had a cat and bc I didn't give her shots for a few years or couldn't remember if I did, I was not allowed to get a cat (my application was denied). A kitten lost a good home tonight due to judys severity and trying to obtain shot records of a cat that we used to have but passed away. Beware of adopting from this shelter, they have turned away a very loving family that would've gave a kitten a wonderful home.
