If I could leave a 0 star I would. I went to this place since is convenient and local. I wanted to rent a carpet cleaner and they said they only had one even tho I saw two. The guy helped me was very nice but as soon as I got home I wanted to clean the carpet after I vacuumed. I was ready to clean my carpets I see the filter is filthy the machine looked very dirty. I cleaned it as much as possible and pour the water with the solution and once I turned on the machine on the carpet the water wasn’t coming out to the carpet it was only vacuuming. The guy checked it and saw the leaks and agreed that it was damaged. I took it back and they still charged me for the 2.5 hours even tho the machine they rented and I’m sure the other one they had both were broken. Ive rented from Home Depot and never had an issue their machines always clean and functional and even if it didn’t work bc of a leak they would refund u the money. the owner seems too money hungry and renting garbage machines. Go rent elsewhere.

I needed a retaining ring to fix the wheel on a cart I use for school. Home Depot didn't have it but told me what I needed and said Ave Hardware would have it. I brought the cart into the store and a young female employee at Ace knew exactly what I needed. She tried a few different sizes of the rings and was able to find the right one and popped it on. Now my cart has all four wheels and works as good as new. So impressed by her knowledge and persistence in fixing my cart.Highly recommend Ace Hardware in Hillside.

If I could give 0 stars I would. They tried to play me. I went in for the releasable fire safety window guards. I was told it was 41.99 for the 2 18 inch, and 49.99 for the 1 22 inch. When I got to the register the cashier was originally told to ring it up for 64.99 for all three, mind you one is a different size. So I pointed it out how that made no sense she brought it down to the 2 18 inches being $54.99 and the 22 inch being $64.99. I paid for it though I felt I was being played. After paying for it I went back and looked at the price tag. THEY WERE 41.99 and 49.99 !! SO SHE REFUNDED ME $42.44 and said I can’t return which is weird because YOU TRIED TO GET OVER ON ME!!

Older lady that works there assumes people come here to steal. She needs to add more cameras to the store. So she can feel safer. Never again will I return to this store. Very unwelcoming feeling

Bargain of last week 3 lb bag annual grass guaranteed 4 day sprouting 9.99.Sprouts 3 days in bucket into a piece of sod with soil. Happy accident. Next batch from bag to check daily of sprouting in a bucket. This white bag of annual grass sprouts faster in a bucket of moistened soil or peat moss soil. The cashier person was very helpful with the aisle directions for the seeds and suet.

I went there because I wanted to support local/private business owners even though prices were higher than big box stores during this pandemic. Had a few things I ordered but should've gone to Target or Home Depot... 1) Website said all items were available in store within 4 hours (for pick up) but got email 3 days later that they don't, so will be shipped to store getting warehouse. 1 week delay. 2) Chose this site because they offered curbside pick up according to the website & confirmed in email receipt. I called when I arrived and was told "no curbside pick up." Fine, no biggy, but staff was somewhat rude on the phone, I don't know why... 3) They sold a small 5oz hand sanitizer for $7 and that bothered me so I didn't buy it - price gauging is illegal in NJ. 4) Google and their own website's store hours are incorrect. They close at 4pm & not 7pm on weekdays; I know because I went and was closed one day. 5) You'd think small business owners will have better customer service to compete with big box stores but I was wrong with this one. I've never, ever, had a bad experience with Shop Online Pick Up at Store at big box stores...

Local, independent, well run hardware store.Impressive variety of products for a "small-is" business (by today's super-store standards). The staff (family?) is helpful and knowledgeable about the inventory. Prices tend to be slightly, but NOT outrageously, higher than the much larger home improvement centers with which it is forced to compete.If you're someone who likes the idea of having a local merchant you can count on and wants support the small business economy, this is your kind of place.JMCKCLARK

This place is the best they have everything you need and if they don’t have it in stock they will order it for you and have it in by Monday. Any questions you have speak to Nicole or Fatima they are the best. Very recommend!!

My favorite hardware store for odds and ends where you can buy a single bolt and washer instead whole pack.I like the idea of shopping at a local owned store with friendly people working there.

I stopped in while in the area and bought a gooseneck penlight that came with button batteries. Unfortunately when I got home it turned out the batteries were old and didn't work. I didn't go back to return it because I live almost an hour away.
