This was an unexpected trip to stop and get a few items since I was in the area. At the time, the store was very busy, but I was able to get in and out within 5 to 10 minutes. What stood out to be with the vibrance in the lighting, color and organization of the products. Some items were a bit overpriced compared to the Wharton and Dover location, however overall the experience was positive.

Id give the self-checkout system a “0 star” rating if available. As a frequent shopper at ShopRite, I’ve had my fair share of experiences with their self-checkout system. While it has some advantages, there are several drawbacks that need addressing.Pros:Speed: When the self-checkout lanes are working smoothly (rarely the case), they can be faster than waiting in line at a manned checkout.Privacy: If you prefer minimal interaction with store employees, self-checkout provides a level of privacy.Cons:Cumbersome Interface: The self-checkout screens often feel clunky and unintuitive. Scanning items, bagging, and navigating through prompts can be frustrating.Constant Software Errors: It’s disheartening to encounter frequent software glitches. Items not scanning, unexpected errors, and frozen screens disrupt the checkout process.Lack of Assistance: Unlike manned checkouts, there’s no friendly cashier to immediately assist when things go awry. Customers are left troubleshooting on their own or during busy times left frustrated, waiting for cashier assistance to unlock the frozen screen.Reduced Employment Opportunities: The shift toward self-checkout means fewer jobs for local cashiers. While automation is inevitable, it’s essential to balance efficiency with employment.Suggestions for Improvement:Better User Experience: Invest in user-friendly interfaces and intuitive design. Simplify the steps for scanning, bagging, and payment.Improved Maintenance: Regularly maintain and update the self-checkout machines to minimize software errors.Hybrid Approach: Consider a mix of self-checkout and more manned lanes than currently typically open. This way, customers have viable options without long waits at manned lanes, and local employment opportunities remain intact. In conclusion, ShopRite’s self-checkout system has potential, but it needs refinement. Let’s aim for a seamless experience that benefits both shoppers and the community. 🛒👩‍💻Note: This review reflects my personal experience and opinions. Your mileage may vary.

I love this place! It has everything you may need for anything! I go there and get my kids lunches, snacks and even dinners. You can get very fine steak and other kinds of meat. They are very organized, considering they have signs that organize what kinds of food in what isle. Only one thing is that some of the shelves are very high and some are very low. Otherwise, it’s great!

Great food store... They recently expanded. Sushi chefs inside, freshly prepared food are a nice touch . They have a limited selection of gluten free options which is nice to offer .Their floral selection is amazing! Trust me when I say from orchids, to daily cut fresh flowers to seasonal options at a very affordable price .This Shoprite is located in the center of Chester … plenty of parking and handicap accessible .

Excellent Shop Rite supermarket with a fresh hot/cold bar, salads, Chinese food and other type of food. Great selection of veggies too. Plants outside during the spring/summer months. Prices are expensive compared to other markets. But you pay for the convenience.

The employees are super nice and patient but the self checkout system makes me want to drown myself in the Black River. Why are the weight sensors soo bad? Why even have them at all if they barely work? It takes forever because the self checkout freaks out for no reason every other time you bag something. So you have to bother the one employee on duty to clear the weight discrepency for you every minute and a half, and if they're busy clearing someone else's weight problem you get to wait around while a robot repeatedly yells at you about your "unexpected item in bagging area". If you think I'm stealing from you just check my receipt when I leave, don't make me suffer your garbage self checkout system. This is such an easy fix for management but I guess they just don't care? So that's cool. Thank you for the horrible shopping experience :)

Self check out is a joke. They hide their reusable bags so you have to wait for an attendant to stop talking to their fellow workers to get you one. Then, if you have coupons you have wait again for someone to come over and watch you scan the coupons. They are the only Shoprite in the area that still has a scale in the bagging area so that is constantly wrong and once again you have to wait for someone to come over and enter yet another code. It's bad enough that their prices are higher than any other Shoprite in the area, I will not shop somewhere that treats their customers like criminals. Absolutely unacceptable.

I am replacing my 1-star review with a 5-star review. On Monday, I placed a shoprite from home order to pick up on my way home from work. Long story short, the wait was excessive due to a new system they are adjusting to. I was asked to come back later or on Tuesday, which not an option. The staff were all very nice and apologetic, but their hands were tied.Assistant manager Krista tried to have my order delivered to me on Monday night, but I am too far out of the delivery radius and she couldn't override the system. Krista not only helped to resolve the situation, but she also called me this morning to advise me that they would be taking care of me for my lost time and inconvenience. I am grateful that this store decided to hold themselves accountable. Their staff is kind and hardworking, in spite of having to deal with a difficult transition to a new system (as well as angry customers like I was). Krista was able to transform a negative experience to a positive one, and I will absolutely try their shoprite from home service again in the future.

One of the most confusing shoprites I have ever been too. So many random aisles compared to others. I'll stick with Flanders shoprite.

Worst for shoprite at home! The attendant at the desk, maybe Nancy’s or something, but WOW hate to see such a small town have nasty people working in the stores. She wouldn’t acknowledge me, ignored me, yelled at me, and eventually had to call management all because I had to interrupt her after waiting 10 minutes without ANY acknowledgment. APPARENTLY SHES THE MANAGER OF THE DEPARTMENT 😳 so asked for the store manager andManager didn’t help obviously. Not sure if he’s aware there’s at least 3 reviews for this specific employee but I told he and he said he doesn’t read reviews but he “talked” to her….okkkkkIt was a mess

I used the deli express app. Said. My cold cuts would be ready. By 4:15. I went to the pu area nothing in the cooler. I asked a guy behind the deli and he went thru about 10 tickets and said it will be a while. I said forget it. 25/30 dollars worth. They had about 6 people back there. Doing nothing. I'm done with there deli. Always a dam. Hassle.

Store was clean, employees are always friendly. The recent changes to the self-check out registers make shopping way more complicated than it needs to be. The constant need for an employee to override the system for every item is inefficient. I leave the store feeling frustrated and I've been limiting how much I purchase there to avoid the hassle. I'm wondering why management designed such a poor customer experience.

I love this store. Always clean and welcoming, Great bakery, great deli, and great meat department. One of the best stores to purchase organic produce. Smaller format store, so they aren't going to have as vast selection as other stores, but what they have is enough!

The quality of produce is excellent. There is always a advanced selection of the newest brands and varieties of foods available. The store is always very clean and the people that work there are always extremely helpful and the cashier are very friendly and many times I am asked if I need help with my groceries to my car. I go to many other shoprites in the area and I can say this ShopRite is superior. It’s always a pleasure.

The self checkout process at this store is so horrible. The weight sensors freak out about everything you do, "unexpected item in bagging area... item removed from bagging area... unexpected item in bagging area... item removed from bagging area.." over and over and over. My last trip to the store, an associate had to come over and help me FIVE TIMES for a $100 order. And these days, $100 of food is not that much. It is all such a stupid, enormous waste of time and I find myself driving farther to go to other stores so I don't have to deal with it. After 40 years of buying groceries I thought I knew how to do it, but according to this shoprite, I guess I don't!!

Why do the cashiers ask me if I need help bagging? Since when is it the customer's job to bag? I always help with the bagging, but it seems to me that management has told their cashiers NOT to bag the groceries unless the customer requests it. I had a young cashier in Chester take out her phone and start texting while I was bagging and made no attempt to assist. The cashiers at the Flanders and Mansfield ShopRites get right to bagging.

Newly renovated 2-3 years. has everything you need. I always go there for my produce as it is even better than the local markets most times. They keep the strawberries freshly stocked. They have a good range of nutrition and health items. They also have a kosher section. The self checkouts make the experience even better.

Associates have the worst attitudes every time we shop there(out of necessity only). They are very unprofessional and say things about customers right in front of them. The floral department told my fiancé at the time that all of her decisions for the flowers she wanted at our wedding were terrible choices, so we went elsewhere. I don’t know if it’s lack of training or management but something needs to change or Wegmans will reap the benefits of shoprite failure to provide adequate customer service.

I used their shop-from-home/pick-up services and had a few occasions where they missed the mark. Unfortunately, I had it with this location. On my last order, I received three rotten products. The worse pickings had mold growing on vegetables. Of course, they make it complicated to get a replacement or reimbursed. The app is not user-friendly, and you can’t even call this location without talking to the operator to connect you to the home delivery/pick up…and ironically they never pick up. I’m going back to Whole Foods…their app and customer service is extremely reliable.

Shopping at this store has become a grim exercise in misery ever since they messed with the weight sensors at the self checkout. What used to be a swift, simple experience has turned into an exhausting, pointless battle with a machine that gets high on insisting you have too many, or too few items on its scale every other scan. The scale itself must be composed of the fussiest garbage components known to mankind, as weighing your bags prior to getting started has absolutely no effect on whether or not it's going to stop the process and force an employee to come over to bully it into submission. "Why don't you just go to regular checkout if you hate the self one so much?" you might be wondering. Because there's only one of those and I'd like to get home sometime within the next century. Shoprite please fix your horrible self checkout I am begging you

My children and I were waiting the the self checkout line. We had a bunch of items in a cart and my kids are 2 and 4. When it was our turn, I wanted to use the bigger self checkout register to make things easier with my kids especially since I'm in a sling from a shoulder surgery I had 4 weeks ago. I was denied and they actually told me to go to the back of the line. This is completely unacceptable. We've been shopping here for decades, how can you treat people like this. Weis in Flanders is only 2 min further for us so we'll take our business there instead.

Ever since they turned on the weight sensors the self check out is ridiculous! Why does the machine hate me? Just because I am a bigger man, it shouldn't give me trouble with buying things! I am going to have to go to Flanders if we don't fix this!

The store and the people who work here are wonderful. This review is about the current state of the place rather than any sort of customer experience.Their self check out areas are terribly small and inadequate and they never have more than 3 cashiers working. As a result, expect extremely long waits if you're buying more than 10 items. If they are having an issue finding people to work, then they need to offer a more competitive wage to attract workers. Until they can fix this issue, do not expect a very pleasant shopping experience
