BUYER BEWARE. Absolutely horrified at our recent experience at this Ace. My mother just returned from this store in TEARS from the way she was treated by the manager Sy. A disgusting display of disrespect. She had to beg me not to go to this store to say this in person so I had to settle for warning others not to ever go here unless you prefer to be yelled at and berated after spending thousands of dollars. We purchased about 10’different large power tools for christmas that brought us well into the thousands of dollars range. Accidentally we doubled up on one of them. When my mom brought it in, Sy yelled at her saying “I’m not returning this for you, you bought this from our competitor online- that costs us money- why would you do that?”. First, this makes no sense, ACE is ACE and we made sure to do it from the Costello branch because “shop small”. He continued to berate her in front of other customers until an employee underneath him said “can we just help get her money back” which thankfully that employee managed to do after 30 minutes because no one knew how to work the system. Including the manager. Needless to say, I have returned the other power tools and cancelled my membership with ACE and have instructed my entire family to do the same. Disgusting service and lack of respect. Will never ever return. And will make sure others do the same.

They actually have people in the store that will help you. Also, they have human cashier (you don't have to be a cashier and ring yourself up).I ordered a Weber grill and they were very helpful. Thank you.

They don’t honor their “Ace promise”. A garden tool that I purchased there snapped in half. On the label it says it can be replace with the same/similar item. So I bring it back and they told me that since I don’t have the receipt that they won’t exchange it with a new one. Who keeps the receipt every tool they have purchased.

Ace is the place with the best deals. I'm a Home Depot fanatic and we'll go there several times a week, but going to Ace is like having dessert. The variety in this store is insane. When you think about the size of the store. They fit more variety in this tiny store than they do in all of Lowe's and Home Depot. Combined. Lots of good seasonal selections such as pool stuff, lawn and garden stuff. Barbecuing stuff and of course all the standard home hardware things you would need.

Bought a power tool through this location, opened it on christmas and the tool did not turn on. Went back to the store and manager told us he was not willing to help us replace the NEW UNUSED power tool we just purchased from the location. Told us he would be losing money to help us with getting a replacement. Manager also gave us incorrect information about the return policy “30 days from when we picked up the tool” but when calling ACE customer service, they told us it was “30 days from date of sale online”. After 5+ rounds with ACE customer service, and a few trips to the store without any help, it is safe to say we will never use ACE hardware for purchasing anything important. I regret using them for this purchase now we have to spend 1+ months with the manufacturer repair route on a completely new and unused power tool. go to any other hardware store who actually stands by the products they sell.

I've tried this place a number of times, thinking, why not buy locally, help the local business, and spare the universe extra shipping costs from buying online. Anyway, each time I've gone to this store, the staff is rude and unhelpful. Not really worthy of what I understood the Ace Hardware brand to be about growing up. I'm done with this place. A little bit more of a ride for me, but the people in Bernardsville Hardware are excellent and they have a much deeper and broader selection of higher quality items across the board.

I was in a rush to find two things, a tape measure and a notebook (yes they had a notebook 😁). I needed to head to a house to get measurements and I forgot my things at home. Chris was extremely attentive and quickly directed me to my items. She figured I’d need a pen and handed me a free one. Thanks for the great shopping experience!

They actually have enough people to help you. They ask you if you need help. They are knowledgeable.I had a car key made there and a key that had an unusual blank.Dawn helped make the car key. It worked. It is really difficult to find anyone who can do this these days. She was extremely helpful and customer service oriented.I had another key made. Sy and Walter helped me. Sy said it was a key that was only made for a few years and he did not have the blank. He knew a workaround and cut it on the old key cutter instead of the automatic machine. I really appreciated his knowledge and help. Without his help I would have had to find a locksmith. There aren't many around and they have very limited hours. He saved me hours of running around.Because the people that work there actually seem to care about their customers, I will now be my go to place for hardware.

I want to give them business as they are local but I’m done with them. I purchased my goods and offered a “Happy Holidays “ to everyone. It was Thanksgiving weekend. The employee said, “I prefer Merry Christmas “ and the man behind the counter said, “Merry Christmas’. I wasn’t referring to Christmas and a simple, Thank you, you too or Happy Holidays in response would have been nice. When my wife responded, “I’m Jewish” her response was, “That’s ok too”

This is the place to go ONLY if you're in a jam ad need a quick fix. Hoffmans or Lowes would be a better option. On more than one occasion the help as been rude and at times almost combative. There is a lady in the store with log white/blonde hair and she is best avoided. She simply cant be troubled with your needs as a customer. There on the other hand are some great folks that work there too. PVC fittings and Electrical switch/outlet areas are an absolute train wreck and by the time you're done trying to figure out what was supposed to be where you will have forgotten your original mission. The owner seems to be nice but is reluctant to fix the customer service experience.

I had an issue with a snowshovel, I had bought this winter. I was going to just throw it away, but it was $40! I didn't have a receipt, but it did have the ACE Hardware price tag on it. I went in expecting an argument but I WAS going to throw it out anyway. I brought it in, expecting an argument and hoping for a store credit. The girl was very nice and called Howard, the manager. It was like I was back at the "Mom and Pop" hardware store I went to decades ago. Howard offered me a store credit, saying he believed in good customer service. Well, he got me as a new customer! Thanks, Howard!

Friendly staff, a little bit of everything for the home but, remember Radio Shack (sure you do). You needed that cable for your stereo and you needed it now. You walked on down to Radio Shack and they had the cable but at 5x the price of another store that you could not walk to. That is Smith's Hardware in a nutshell. Well, the prices are even worse now and Mr. Smith does not care, lol. (yes I bought the cable then and I bought the pipe fitting today)

I ordered a grill from them and it never came the website said 6 in stock when i ordered it. Then after fathers day they said 1 week and then after that they canceled my order. Customer service was zero help and was very rude and actually hung up on me. Im never going to this store ever again. Waiting 3 weeks for a grill is fun and then finding out that it was canceled is a great experience. Thanks for wasting my time with your terrible customer services im buying a grill from anyone besides you.

I had a really rough time when ordering an item as buy online and pick up in store. Not the stores fault, it was the company. I finally got them, and my grandfather wanted 3 more. I went back to the store, and they only had 1. No biggie, so I ordered them online to ship to my home. When they arrived, one was the wrong color! I went though corporate to have them send a new one or find one in the area for me. This store was supposed to have one on hold for me, but corporate gave them the wrong number- again, not the stores fault. So Rich the store owner ordered me a new one on the spot and had it put on his next truck. When it arrived, he offered to drive it to me at my job so I wouldn’t have to drive the 40 minute drive out there. He hand delivered it, the right one, and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Rich! I’ll forver shop at your store because if your kind heart, and gernerosity. I HIGHLY recommend shopping here!

BEWARE ACE return/sales policies. This customer is lost forever.ACE return policy posted online is return unused and in box within 30 days from purchase for store credit only - less fees, charges, etc.Ok, that is not a good return policy but at least it is posted.However, if item purchased goes on sale, you are out of luck.ACE will NOT work with you to give you the price difference.At ACE, Chester, NJ store, I purchased a tool for $230 that went on sale for $180 a few days later. I asked the ACE store manager to refund the $50 difference or to process a credit for full price and purchase at sale price. Which is done by other stores: Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc. ACE store manager refused.So sharing my $50 lesson learned.Next time, my business will go to Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc....but never again to ACE.
