I am absolutely mortified after going to this store this week. The animals are kept in HORRIFIC inhumane conditions and living in filth. I fail to understand how this business is supported by ANYONE and that people are not reporting it to the state department of consumer affairs because it is not legal to keep animals in such poor conditions. Please don’t be a bystander and report this place so these poor animals are not suffering and dying from negligence. I am attaching photos which show mice shoved into small dirty boxes on top of each other with low water supply. The aquariums look as if they have not been cleaned in 10 years. There was one with a literal swamp in it. There is mold everywhere and the store smells horrible. The owner should retire if he is too lazy to take care of the store or hire staff that does. He does not care about animals at all, nor his store and should face legal repercussions for animal abuse. The store looks like a hoarding situation. I have never seen anything like this in my whole life and it’s incomprehensible that in this day and age and in a nice town like Chester nothing has been done about this business. Please give these poor animals a voice they are suffering.

SICK RATS. I got 2 adorable baby rats from here recently. Already at the store I noticed they had red crust on the nose but at the store I did not think much of it as that can sometimes happen when they are stressed or because the cage needed to cleaned. However upon taking them home I noticed it was more severe & definitely from an upper respiratory infection and then noticed sores on both rats. They also appeared to have mites upon taking them home as well. I did call the store, the lady whom I spoke with would not take accountability for the rats being sick at the store. She was insisting I bring them in for her to check/“diagnose” even though she is not a vet. I am concerned as I have never in all my years as a rat mom seen sores on rats. Nor has my vet seen it. I’m concerned for my new pets health as well as my own since I’m not even sure what they have. My vet even had to consult with another exotic vet, as she was not sure what was causing the sores.

Very disorganized place with lots of animals in small cages.I felt terrible visiting, rabbits were in a little place 4 of them. The birds there were like 10 in a little cage.Almost all fish tanks were dirty with green water or stuff floating in them. All kinds of things on the floors and suspicious tank with green water in it right in the middle of the floor.I'm my opinion de conditions were those animals are kept are not humane at all.😔

This little shop is great! The owner is really nice and helpful. Truly cares about his customers and will help them in any way he can. Including carrying out items that are too heavy for some.

Salt water stuff is scares. He wanted 100 bucks for a green star polyp colony. If you know salt water you know that’s not right. He had one decent coral I tried to buy. It was a montipora. He told me it wasn’t for sale. Instead he wanted to cut it up and frag it. He doesn’t have a frag tank. Infact the tank he has labeled frags says “help me” this guy is a joke. Has had copper problems in his tank. “Own admission” yet still had a wall of SW fish for sale. Don’t bother here go to reefco nj. Same prices.. way cleaner tanks

I live about 35 minutes away from this store, and I will never go anywhere else for my small animal needs again. They have an excellent selection of toys, treats, hides, food, and cage accessories. Not only that, but their prices are so reasonable for a local pet store. The employee working with the small animals (Alex?) was very knowledgeable about general rat care and involved in the upbringing of the fancy rats in the store. I just purchased a pair of male rats (drex/rex), and I will be back for another pair once the dumbos are old enough to be adopted.I appreciated that their double rex variety of rats still have eyelashes, whiskers, etc., which indicates to me they responsibly breed. I also appreciated the associate asking about the cage I own and checking my ID before showing me the rats. It shows me that they care about the homes these animals goto. The pair of boys I purchased are well socialized and very friendly. They’re taken very well to their new environment- they are so full of life and strong! All the rats in their care at this time have healthy coats, are very alert, and are also very curious!! They seem happy to me.I attached some pictures of the ferrets I got while I was there. So cute!!

I recently went in to browse and possibly purchase feeders, unfortunately I stumbled upon a dead frog. Staff was goofing off in the back so I didn't bother getting their attention. I left immediately, saddened and disgusted by the neglect.

Went in last week to finally check this place out after word of mouth. Got to me multiple times about his selection. Great variety in freshwater fish choices. All looked rather healthy in the tanks. Prices were on par. If not better than most the other locations for most of the fish. Adam was a huge help in discussing everything. Will definitely be back for the fish. Maybe not so much for some of the other small animals (mammals, reptiles) Staff was incredibly helpful, and friendly.

If I could give this business 0 stars I would. The smell was horrendous, it was at least 80 degrees in the store, there were multiple wrong setups(crested geckos had no where to hide, cockatiels were living with parakeets, Pac-Man frogs had aquatic setups with no eco earth), reptiles had stuck shed, reptiles water bowls were filled with feces and stunk, rabbits had no food or hay, arowanas were extremely skinny, saltwater fish looked absolutely terrible, corals had no lights, I could go on and on. Don’t shop here or support this type of animal abuse. I have NEVER been to a pet store that was this horrible and I’ve been to my fair share of stores. To the owner, do better!

One of the best pet/fish store in NJ. Amazing selection of freshwater fish. All animals are super healthy and well taken care of.

just went into that store a couple minutes ago and I was appalled at the condition of those animals. They were multiple different species stuffed into small enclosures with each other with little to no enrichment or food. The floors are covered in boxes and tanks so you can barely walk through. And not to mention the prices are outrageous. They clearly don’t care for the safety or wellbeing of ANY of those poor animals :(

Great local pet store with lots of different choices for every pet in your household. Adam's also has a wide variety of fish, reptiles, birds & small animals (hamsters, Guinea pigs, rabbits) the best local pet shop around and great to support a local business. I've gotten most of my animals from Adam's over the years and every time they are great. Highly recommend!

The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. It’s not high end fancy store with huge displays and enclosures. It’s a pet store. The animals, reptiles, fish and amphibians are all well cared for. Bugs are clean and plump. I have gotten a few reptiles and fish from adams and everyone is thriving and doing well.

I have gone to this store for over a decade, and every time the animals are grossly cramped in disgustingly kept enclosures. At one point they kept lizards and a species of toad known for being toxic.... together in the same enclosure. Bought a toad from here once and it puked out a white glob and died the same day.... Some of the employees he gets always seem to be pretty rude even for the most minimal question... The owner can be nice I just wish he would revamp this store.... I understand that they need to make a profit but at least don't keep territorial animals in the same enclosure... such as bearded dragons....

Drove almost a hour here not worth it. They have good enclosures and animal supplies but not animals. All of the animals from birds to fish and especially the reptiles are kept in the most disgusting way ! The whole store smells and the animals are being neglected I don’t even know how this place is still open the way it is kept. So much potential because the store is so big. That being said I would never purchase a animal here of any kind because of the way they are kept and treated.

Unclean and unsafe living conditions for the animals. It absolutely reeks of urine, musk, and rotting plants. The cages and tanks are less than habitable for the animals living in them. Multiple birds cramped into tiny cages. This store should be shut down.

Absolutely do not buy fish from here. From the start the place smells horrible. In the fish area there are fish in the most inhumane conditions. There a was a tiny hippo tang laying on the tank half dead with a dead fish in the tank which has been there for a while since you can see how decomposed it was. When we told a worker there she responded with “oh thank you, which tank?” Seriously? Would rather spend a couple more bucks but get healthier looking fish and fish tanks.

Absolutely loved this Pet store. I felt like I went back in time. Brought back memories of my neighborhood family owned pet shop. The girl was very pleasant and knowledgeable about our puppy. She helped us pick out all the right supplies we needed to get started for our new addition to our family. I live in Florida and just called her for info and she remembered who I was and was able to recall specifics of my visit. Thank you

Adam's Pet Safari is a one stop shop for all your pets needs. They are so much better than the box stores. Definitely crowded but they have a ton of animals from exotic fish to lizards all the way down the spectrum to bunnies & guinea pigs. Adam's is definitely worth stopping in & checking them out!

Wow! So glad we found this place. When our ratty passed away, we needed to get a ratty friend for our one remaining rat. I didn’t want to go the route of the feeder rats as pets because our last two feeder rats (as pets) developed cancerous tumors and passed away. I didn’t want to purchase from a big box store as i didn’t feel that the rats would be socialized much in that environment. This pet shop is amazing! The ratties were pushing each other out of the way to be the first one to be picked up and cuddled! They were super friendly, cuddly and had no fear/skittishness. Their coats were shiny and healthy, they were active and like I said, super friendly. The hardest part was picking out only one! The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful and clearly cares for and takes good care of the rats. The rats are bred at the store so you know what you are getting disposition and health-wise. We couldn’t be happier. I highly recommend this place!

The staff is very friendly and provide you with a ton of info on questions you have. I got my tetras from here. The stuff they sell are pretty cheap and good. 1 star less because it's a bit crowded and has a stench.

Been shopping at Adam’s for almost 20 years now. No other pet stores around that even come close to comparing in inventory of supplies, fish, reptiles, mammals, etc. Highly recommend!!!

feels like a pet store from the 80s.. fish are fine but reptiles and birds are very poorly cared for. dirty tanks, cohabbing 5+ adult bearded dragons in same tank, very dry chameleon tanks with stuck shed. cockatiels in with finches and budgies. wayyy too many birds for how small the cages are. don’t support this store.
