My husband & I hired Tom to work with our puppy Rodeo. He equipped us with the skills we needed to improve his behavior in so many ways. Rodeo is a Shepherd Husky mix & we were having trouble on a leash.He refused to get in the car & a game of fetch was really just throw the ball & try to get it back. He would also knock me over going up & down the stairs & nip when he wanted attention. Tom was able to help us correct his behavior & now Rodeo really is a good boy!

I had the pleasure of working with Tom over the last two months, and I am incredibly impressed with the results. My puppy Brandy has learned so much under his guidance. From mastering basic commands like sit and stay to learning how to walk on a leash without the constant pulling, the progress has been remarkable. Tom is a top notch dog whisperer. My 7 month old labradoodle, Coco had a 10 day visit to learn from Tom. Coco was timid, shy, scared of sounds and people. She was anxious and energetic. Coco is now friendly, better on the leash and calm. Coco can be off leash to play toss and comes back consistently. Tom isn't just training and helping Coco, he helped me too. Tom's coaching has helped me learn how to support what Coco has learned and to help us continue to bond. I highly recommend Tom!

Tom was great! Responded right away and was able to fit us in. It was as if our pups were craving his behavior modification techniques. I 100% recommend Tom for your dog training needs! He is very informative and gets to the root of the problem. Our rescue dog Roscoe had some severe separation anxiety. I can’t say enough about how great Tom is! His credentials should speak for themselves but that only partially captures his process. He listens, pays attention, and takes the time to truly understand your dog and your home situation. He doesn’t come in with prescriptions. He asked us what we wanted for us and our dog and helped us learn to communicate clearly what we wanted with our dog. He takes his time, but the results were immediate. Within one session he taught us how to make a significant change in our dog’s behavior. I will recommend him to all my friends with dogs.

Tom was like MAGIC with our dogs! We adopted a new female and had to introduce her to our male, they were unsure of each other at first and a bit nippy so we were a bit worried...but once Tom came over he instantly got them to love each other WITHIN AN HOUR!! I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a proper introduction like this. We couldn't be more thankful. Highly recommend Tom, it's amazing how much the dogs listen to him too. My little guy Chester is 6 years old and is a Coton De Tulear. He was having behavioral issues early on due to clearly not having the direction and obedience that a owner should have and take control of. Me culpa as I thought just loving the little guy was going to be enough but clearly I was wrong. At 8lbs, I became frightened of Chester as he started to become more and more aggressive for reasons I could not understand. I found Tom via coworkers that experienced success and recommend him. After 6 years of no direction and discipline which is painful for me to state, but an honest statement, the challenge for Tom was not easy. After two weeks with Tom and daily check ins along with videos and weekly conference calls to discuss progress, tips and observations, Chester finally came back home. Did he come back home a different dig instilled with discipline and confidence and respect? Yes, and the transformation of undoing 6 years of my lack of direction and control was clear. But, the continuation of what Tom did for Chester was my job moving forward and the job I should have had all along. Tom has been a coach and a supporter and has been available anytime for questions and calls and even post home visits when/if needed. I get emotional as I wright this as all I wanted to do was love my little guy but he needed a heck of allot more than that and that was clear in my learning process. He needed and craved for a leader, discipline and direction. I gave learned allot Tom and thank you for your great work with Chester and for being there fir coaching when needed. My little guy is as happy as I have ever seen him and so am I!!

One of our dogs had been increasingly guarding her resources. Thankfully, Tom could come to the house within a few days to help with the problem. He spent about 2 hours with us, showing us many different ways to begin fixing the issues. After implementing his training techniques, our little Kahlan has shown drastic improvement. A life saver!!

I spent thousands of dollars on every kind of training! Still my dog had serious behavioral issues only at 8 months old.Tom understood the breed and temperament of my dog. After the first session I saw a difference in my dog!! My wife and I brought home our 2 month old German Shepherd puppy who was found to be very stubborn and high energy. Being previous German Shepherd owners before we never had one so headstrong. We reached out to Tom for our 2 out of control Shorty Jack Russell's. He was quick to respond with a phone interview to discuss our issues. We set up a time to meet and discuss further our issues and goals. Tom assured us we and our pups could relearn behavior to make our lives less stressful. We have just finished our 3rd week and we have seen improvement. We adopted a 2 year old 100 lb shepherd mix, Bear. When you have a 30 lb dog who jumps or pulls when you walk them it can be annoying but it’s not a deal breaker. A 100 lb alpha dog needs training. Tom was great. He explained a dog’s mentality and showed us exactly what to do. Tom worked with Bear while my husband and I watched. Then we took turns practicing and Tom gave us pointers on how to perfect a technique.Each visit we worked on a different task. I liked that Tom came to our house because we have another dog and she played a part in Bear’s training. She was getting Bear over excited when the doorbell rang. Tom was able to identify her role and address it easily.The training itself is what I feel sets Tom apart from others. It is not treat or fear based. It’s basically sending a calm and consistent expectation to your dog. We are still training ourselves to stay on task with Bear but I am really happy with the results so far.You cannot go wrong using Tom to help you train your dog!

We are first time dog parents, and Tom was recommended to us by the breeder of our Goldendoodle puppy. We called Tom within the first week of bringing our puppy home and it was the best decision we ever made. Tom is extremely knowledgeable, and his methods are effective and practical. Most importantly, he is good listener - he takes the time to understand the context, individual personalities (of the dog and the humans involved!) & our lifestyle before recommending solutions. He is not a one-size-fits-all trainer. I love that he insists on involving the entire family and he was instrumental in instilling confidence in our 7-year-old who was understandably hesitant in showing authority over a puppy that she just wanted to cuddle with! He is also extremely professional and responsive. I have recommended Tom to many other families and continue to rely on him for advice as our puppy grows!

Tom was a great help with training our rescue lab. She gets overly excited when guests come over and shows this through mouthing and jumping. Tom taught us techniques to prevent this from happening. We had a lot of guests share she is like a different dog! Definitely recommend using him.

I do not recommend! After leaving this review, Tom immediately called me and my husband to offer us a refund IF we took down this review. We rather people know our experience instead. First off, our dog is spoiled, no abuse or neglect, just lack of training and lack of my husband and I knowing what to do. When Tom first arrived, he asked my husband how we would like him to approach our dog (we did not have an answer since we are not the trainer) and did not give us any instructions on what to do after he entered our house. He entered our decently sized kitchen where me and our leashed dog were. He barely said hello to me and then didn't say anything else. Instead, Tom made our dog's aggression worse by setting her off by turning his back and wearing a hood. He didn’t speak to our dog, and he made himself an alerting presence by not showing his face. I felt on edge because I didn’t know what to do since Tom wasn't talking at all. and I’m sure our dog felt my uneasiness. Tom made me feel like the dog, not knowing what was happening. Tom snapped at me saying “Don’t talk to her like that” for trying to calm down our dog one time which probably made her even more mad because now her owner is being spoken to harshly. Again, I didn't know what to do, he hadn’t told us anything before entering our house and he hadn't said a word while in our house. He was rude, kept talking poorly about her breeder and asking questions about her breeder that we didn’t have answers to. Clearly stated that my husband and I couldn’t afford the 3 week boarding and training that he does. His bottom line was that our “set-up” wasn’t good for her and we most likely won’t be able to handle her. He said that the 25ft tie out was fine as long as we were outside with her. That was not a problem. He advised walking her more which wasn't a problem either. After he left, our dog was so on edge, she was growling at night, barking at the windows, was staring at the spot he sat in, and was just on edge and doing things she’s never done before. We had another trainer come and our dog was showing the same behaviors she showed Tom. This trainer however told us that growling should not be corrected, she is just communicating that she is scared and nervous. The bark that she was doing was also a scared bark but not aggressive. The new trainer brought her own treats ( Tom did not, so he tried giving her a RABBIT treat that we leave on the table) which our dog took gladly and was able to take her leash off.

We take our lab/pointer mix to Tom to watch while we are on vacation. We used to pass up certain vacations because we did not want to leave our girl with any type of boarding place, because of our own bad experience with them in the past and the horror stories we here from others. We have been going to Tom for at least 6 years now. I wish I did this review sooner, but life gets in the way! Tom not only knows how to care for our dog, but he is so knowledgeable about dog breeds, their behavior and how to handle each one in a unique way. He knows how to introduce different breeds to one another and keep them all well behaved and manageable. We have referred people to him that needed training for their dogs, and the feedback is incredible. Their dogs have done a complete turn around and they thank me whenever they see me, and t hey have referred their friends and family. I never think twice about referring him for training, and would never leave our dog with anyone else when she is not with us. Thank you Tom/The Dog Tamer for being on a whole other level from boarding places and in a league of your own with dog training. It is disgusting how many trainers hurt animals to try to "teach" them. Your approach is educational, compassionate and effective. I wish I could give you 10 stars!!!
