Love visiting and walking around. The lighthouse was recently renovated and it is open for the public (for free!) while the park is open. Nice view from up above.Walking by the water and then on the jetty is so relaxing and pretty.Highly recommended on a sunny day.Can get crowded sometimes (especially by people that come to fish). There are also restrooms that are in decent shape, as well as picnic tables.

Great place to bird watch in the winter. Beautiful long jetty & dune area with lots of birds. We saw a Longtail & Harlequin Ducks as well as many other birds. Very relaxing winter day in early February.

This is the 2nd tallest lighthouse in New Jersey. With 217 steps to the top. Great view of the ocean. It's located at the end of Long Beach Island. I just went on Saturday Jan 13th and didn't have to purchase a ticket to go up. But I think previous during the summer time you might have to previous a ticker or make a donation I can't really remember.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid! I’ve taken field trips here and have come here with family. It’s so fun and nice here. I love the rocks that you can hop along to the end of the beach. We went up the lighthouse since it was off-season and free. It’s amazing exercise, and an amazing view at the top (pictured here).

At the end of road, drive past and you are in the channel! Free State Park. NJ Coastal Heritage Trail. Open 8am to 8pm. Lighthouse hours vary. No drones, alcohol or smoking. Plenty of parking. Parking lot and grounds are handicap friendly but not the recently restored lighthouse. Bike trails, sheltered panic tables, bathrooms, nature trail, fishing and more. View from top of the Lighthouse is worth the 217 steps!

Great place for a day trip. You can walk up the 200 steps inside the lighthouse and out onto the observation deck and get a fantastic view of the ocean and inlet. A must do!

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is truly a sight to behold. The lighthouse itself stands as a majestic landmark, and the opportunity to climb its 217 stairs to the top is an adventure in itself. The park offers more than just the lighthouse, though. There is a pier where you can enjoy fishing, as well as a scenic sanded area perfect for picnicking and enjoying the outdoors. If you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting this beautiful park. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in natural beauty and create lasting memories.

History:Barnegat Lighthouse, locally known as “Old Barney,” is situated on the precarious northern tip of Long Beach Island, NJ, and was originally lit in 1859. Coastal vessels heading to and from New York relied heavily on the lighthouse to protect them from the point’s dangerous shoals, swift currents, and shifting sandbars.Visitors can climb 217 steps to the top of this maritime specimen for a breathtaking panoramic view of Island Beach, Barnegat Bay, and Long Beach Island.Lighthouse is not the only thing here, there are also a couple of activities that you can do while you are hereMaritime Forest Trail - The self-guided loop trail is 0.2 miles long, with forest, and migratory birds. Interpretive signs explain the birds and plants you may see during your stroll.Fishing – If fishing is your game, be sure to bring your gear and head to the bulkhead near the picnic areaBird watching, picnics, and more...A few blocks away, you can visit the Barnegat Light Museum, which we didn’t have the opportunity to see but it’s still worth checking outIf you were picturing an area of a lighthouse with beautiful glistening blue-green water, then visiting the Barnegat Lighthouse should be a stop you should make down here in southern New Jersey.

Went there with the family and friends. Hung out for a bit just to chill. Nice spot for pictures, fishing and just plain relaxing. We brought our dogs along. Unfortunately, they weren't permitted on the beach. Still, the spot is still worth going to.

Barnegat Lighthouse is a great place to visit during the day for the secluded area it sits. There are picnic tables and a gazebo so be sure to bring a small meal/ snack but don’t forget to bring a trash bag because this area is a Bring In Bring Out spot. What you bring in the area must leave with you when you depart. Keep it clean. The lighthouse becomes a tranquil spot to visit at night. The waves crashing on the shoreline as the stars shine brightly in the perfect sky. I suggest to bring a blanket you could lay on the ground and look up at the stars and the lighthouse. You’ll have no choice but to let go of any negative emotion that may be weighing on one. And if your lucky, like I was, you’ll see a shooting star. All vehicles must be out of this area by 8pm. Enjoy ❤️

If you are traveling to LBI, Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is a must! The lighthouse itself is well preserved and quite a sight! To make it even more exciting, if you’re up for the challenge, you can walk up to the very top! The climb to the top, does take some perseverance, but there are a few spots to stop and rest off of the spiral staircase. The breeze and the view from above is breathtaking!

The park is awesome, great day trip. Great views from the top of the light house! Not so hard to go up, if you are worried, as I was, to make it to the top, just take your time. There are little landings along the way of the spiral stairs to take a break. Enjoy.

Just beautiful! Open for climbing 9am -3pm. There is a $3 fee to climb the 217 steps, but it's worth it. The view is breathtaking. The parking is free, and is open till 8pm. Bathrooms are clean. Picnic tables and pavilions are available if you pack a lunch. Also, a maritime forest trail to walk. There are a few places nearby to eat, grab ice cream or mini golf .... It's definitely worth the trip.

The Barnegat lighthouse is a must-visit for those who appreciate the natural beauty of the coastal landscape. You can climb to the top and get a premium view of the inlet, the boat traffic and the fishermen who line up against the rocky seawall. There is a diner right outside the park, picnic benches and you can even get ice cream to convince the kids to tag along for the visit. Highly recommended!Restrooms: CleanPicnic area: A number of available tables

Great place to go for a walk and explore. The lighthouse looks great and the beach is in wonderful shape. Check out some local wildlife or brave the jetty rocks, there's something for everyone to do here. Just be aware the lighthouse and center will be closed for some holidays!

The lighthouse is now open to climb. It is free, but a donation is appreciated. The museum is also free to visit, and the women who worked at the counter were polite and shared whatever information you might need. The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular and with only 217 steps to the top, it's not a tough climb.

Fantastic state park on Long Beach Island . You can climb Old Barney and get great view. You can also walk out on the jetty and watch the fisherman and the boats coming and going in the inlet. There are bathrooms and a couple small hiking trails. Very scenic NJ State Park

Nice little area. The area next to the light house has a few benches and but you can chill in. There's also a railed walkway facing towards island beach state park, where I saw many fishers stand. Park makes it clear that to better be out by 8 pm, otherwise your car is getting locked in the parking lot. The lighthouse is photogenic so don't forget to capture some photos during your visit

Old Barney it's a great place to visit whatever time of year it is. The climb up the lighthouse steps is a bit challenging, but I was able to do it at 70 years of age. Worth the effort! The park also has a visitor center, trails through the maritime Forest and dunes, fishing from the jetty rocks, or just enjoying sightseeing and the smell of the sea, along side of the awesome Barnegat inlet!
