Went here prior to new ownership and this year after new ownership. I was VERY surprised to see the 1 star reviews since the new ownership. The new building and entrance are such an upgrade. You no longer has to see the neglected animals when you pull in the entrance. The campground itself is well maintained and the bathroom were clean. This is truly a hidden gem close to Conaway, Ossipee, and Lake Chocura. The price is right and the river sites are beautiful. Highly recommend.

We were looking to get off the grid for a while and wanted a simple campsite with no frills. If you're considering one of the "meadow" campsites, look elsewhere. They're sandwiched between the main gate, the kids playground and the mini golf course. It was incredibly busy and not an ounce of privacy. There's a really bright light near the main gate that blasts through the site we were in. All of the sites were really close together too. So much so, we didnt even know where our site began or where to even put our tent so we weren't in another site. They seem to only rent out every other site, but it's still close enough you could hear your neighbor fart in their tent. (Literally) The bath house was clean, but the showers didn't have hot water. I read the review left not too long ago about no hot water and was fooled because the sinks had hot water. I'm here to report they still don't have hot water. It's garden hose warm at best. It seems like it's geared more towards family RV camping. They had some events for kids our first night there and the RV sites were in a nice wooded pine grove area. It just seems like the tent camping sites were an after thought. Not recommended for 2 kid free adults wanting to get away.

This is the third year a group of us has used this campground for a reunion. Great location for all of us to get to but unfortunately we won't be back. When we arrived we were told there was a newer trailer on the site we have rented the last 3 years. It was filthy (I don't think the rug has ever been vacuumed), there was a puddle of water in the kitchen and the connecting smaller bedroom from a leak somewhere, the bed was quite possibly the most uncomfortable mattress I've ever slept on and the toilet stopped working our second day there so we couldn't use it at all. To top it off, there was someone screaming profanities for about 20 minutes at 4 o'clock in the morning at the top of his lungs. Don't think it's too much to ask for a little decency at almost $200 a night for a trailer.

Editing to say: really disappointed that I had called for a refund, wasn’t able to speak to anyone and was told I’d get a call back and never did. That alone tells me all I need to know. If you don’t have the decency or care to remedy a situation or at least give a call back to a customer who isn’t happy that raises some red flags for me.Don’t waste your money. They should specify on their website that their “wooded” sites don’t have car access and don’t have enough space to fit a tent. Save your 46$ a night and go to white lake state park up the street. Half the price, better sites, much quieter, cleaner and overall worth the stay. The website makes it look much better than it is and “new ownership” should start a customer service training program where they learn how to be pleasant and have the right skills/tools to solve problems for the people they’re taking money from. I NEVER leave reviews for anything especially bad ones but not being refunded for a tent site that you can’t get to and there isnt room to actually put a tent on is disappointing.

We have stayed at Tamworth camping area multiple times. It has always been a good family atmosphere. This weekend was not so much for us at least. We had a large group next to us who stayed up drinking and making lots of noise until 3:00 in the morning. We mentioned it to the office who was very nice and said they would talk to them, they did not. Next night when it was still going at 1:30 we called the office who again said they would take care of it. "Security" drove by never stopped to talk to them, so again it went on until 3:00 AM.Very disappointed with new management.Peter Mullen

This Camp ground is far from a "family experience " With Thursday night Movie night blasting, Friday Music jam,The Gun Club across the street blasting gun shots while trying to enjoy a meal. Saturday 6pm partying from across the campground..We stayed in the corner lot #70 a zero electricity and zero water site costing $500 for 2 weeks that took 6 days for The One person who is allowed to mow, mow the foot high lawn we had to walk through, the cigarette butts all around our fire pit and the crushed cans of Booze, The one entrance to get to our spot multiple times I had to speak to the office about maybe posting a sign "DO NOT BLOCK or PARK IN THIS SPACE" Seemed to be too much to ask, as its our only way into and out of our site..The young kids behind the office using the space as an AUTO repair or chop shop. It seems Noone cares about their job and it shows. Noone here in charge overseeing anyone it's a free for all and the younger the better. The office closing an hour before its posted..Never mind the outdated shower stalls and no out door sink for those who don't have water on site. I wouldn't come back and I won't recommend it to anyone with family.

We enjoyed our stay! The staff was super friendly, the camp store was well stocked and clean, even selling little cones of feed to feed the miniature horses and goats.Overall the site we had was spacious for our trailer, and it being a smaller campground, everything was a short walk away. It seems almost all sites have a fire ring with flip up charcoal grate and grill; which is a really nice touch. The river had a spot to let our dogs swim which was great! We even saw a small trout!Only pitfall of the campground is it is starting to show its age, horseshoe pits and shuffleboard along with the mini golf and playground have definitely seen better days. The office is brand new so hopefully the rest of the features will be brought back to life. There were a lot of mosquitos so break out the citronella! Also a shooting range is close by, did not ruin our trip by any means, but you can heard gunshots through the woods. In conclusion; we had a great time here and we both said we would certainly return!Thank you Tamworth Camping Area!ALSO; don’t follow your GPS; there is a new office and entrance; coming from route 16 it’s on the left about .2 miles before the GPS entrance.

Very pleased with the safari area. Very large open field site. Close to the bath house, the store, and had full hookups. We did learn a lesson about keeping the campsite locked down when not there. People aren't respectful like they should be when camping.Would definitely book this again if ever in the area!Nearby activities: Bike week. 40 minutes from Laconia, but a nice ride. Close to restaurants and gas stations

Stayed with my friend June 28th through July 3rd. Our experience has been fantastic. The staff are super friendly and the campsites are very spacious. Parking the camper was a little difficult with all the trees but once it was parked that didn't matter at all because the being in between the trees adds to that authentic camping feel that Tamworth Camping Area provides so well.Noteworthy details: Wooded sites are beautiful and give that true "camping" feel.

If you have a big family and want to have fun, don’t go here. My family and I have been camping for 20 years and we have been to many different campgrounds and this has been the worst experience we have had. To start, we are a tenting family and they have very limited tent sites. And the tent sites that they do have, the majority of them don’t have the correct outlet. They never even offered us an adapter for the outlet until we went in and asked what we are supposed to do about the outlet. Second, this campground is what we like to call the fun police. We would not even be that loud and they would come to our campsite and yell at us to quite down. Never in my 20 years of camping have we had someone say that our fire is too big. If they had regular fire pit instead of raised iron ones, it wouldn’t be a problem. They also think they’re cops just by waiting in places around the campground and if you are going the slightest above the speed limit, they will follow you and yell at you for going to fast. Every time we had to unpack and pack up, they would come and yell at us for having too many cars at the campsite. If you have people that are visiting and you already have 4 adults on your campsite, they will also yell at you. Third, their advertising for swimming and fishing is a hoax. The river goes barley to your waist and has a strong current. We had to find other places in the area to go swimming. Their advertisement for mini golf is also a hoax as they are under staffed to keep it cleaned up. Will never recommend or come to this camp ground again

Tamworth Camping is a beautiful property. Overall, it was a nice experience but will definitely not be returning. They were very strict when it came to how many vehicles are allowed per camping area/slot. We had 3 cars but they would only allow 2 and told us to move the 3rd car. We even told them that the 3rd vehicle had rented another camping area ( because only 4 adults are allowed per camping slot) but it was far from where we had the other camping site that they decided to drive to our area. Furthermore, a staff approached us while were riding our bikes and told us to make sure we have our parking pass visible on our vehicles. We told the staff that they were but he insisted that they weren’t. We didn’t want to argue so we agreed. When we got back to our camping area, we double checked and noticed the parking passes visible on all vehicles. We decided to cut our trip short because of how uncomfortable we felt.

What a wonderful time! The Swift River swimming hole may have been our kids' highlight! The owners are so friendly and accommodating. The campgrounds are clean...and quiet on a beautiful wooded river landscape!

We were last minute seasonal campers. The owners Dana and Lori helped us find a place to be here for the summer ; for which we are very grateful .We love Tamworth, so peaceful. Being on the Swift River is just fantastic, it is tons of fun for all ages The owners and staff here are ever so accommodating and everyone is so nice The campground is clean and well kept. ! it's a wonderful place to bring your children and your family.

This was the first time we had been tent camping with the kids and we had a great time. We had a super shady spot with plenty of room. The playground was awesome. The river was great to cool off in. Best of all were the extremely clean bathrooms. The staff was super nice, check in and out was super easy.Ignore the negative reviews, this place was awesome. My family will definitely be returning.

Booked a 5 night stay from 9/28-10/3. Good location. Enjoyed hiking, a day in Portland Maine. We were in site 66. We had to listen to the gun range every night which was very loud as well as a race track. Amenities were fair. The showers are awful and the shower close to us was closed due to Covid but the others were open. Guess they didn't have any Covid germs. Issues with the gate. There are 2 gates, but one is blocked. We had to wait several times to get in and out because the one working gate would be blocked with arrivals/departures and random vehicles. Left a day early.

We have been coming here for over 20 years. Wow! We really like it and will return next year. My only recurring complaints are; they really need to thin the tree canopy, you must be an expert driver to back into most sites, some are so tight you must let them use a tractor to get in and out. Even then you may not be able to open push outs or awnings. My other complaint is the old decrepit bathrooms and showers for tenters. I will only use the two in the red barn.

Stayed this past weekend and loved it! We had a site in the back as we reserved last minute, it was a little tight, but that was our own fault. Bathrooms were clean and the place seemed nice. We have already booked for next year to be right on the water! The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that there was a dance at the pavilion right across from us, which I would have liked to have know about when I called to make the reservation. We made the best of the situation though and cannot wait to go back next year!

I have stayed at this campground since I was a little girl and it is always nothing short of an amazing experience every time. If you’re looking for “resort style” camping this isn’t for you or better be in an RV. This is camping. Period. I’m so upset to read other reviews that people don’t understand that when you’re camping you must provide yourself with all that you need for that site stay without having to rely on a “sink to wash your dishes in” or “firewood that’s too expensive”. Carol County has plenty of places to buy wood from, and most of their sites have water AND electricity hook ups so come prepared, city people. 😏 this is a privately, family owned campground and they put their lives into it. Always a great experience and I look forward to staying there EVERY YEAR! 😍

It was a nice campground and pretty clean. Has a nice playground for the children and pretty cool little spot on the river. The staff was very friendly and the build your own sundae" ice cream social was really fun for the children. I'd have given them 4 stars at least if not for 2 things. There wasn't any wifi in the main buildings let alone at the campsites and there was a LOT of gun fire from the neighbors adjacent to the campground. Thankfully the cellphone service (Verizon) was fairly decent with 2-3 bars and 4g. The gun fire was happening most of the first couple days we were there on Memorial Weekend.

We go here every year. It's one of our favorite campgrounds... As quiet or as loud as you want it to be. The kids love the playground, swift river and haystack rides.

Although we enjoyed our stay and loved our campsite, and everyone was extremely kind, especially George who was very helpful: a) $7 for 5 pieces of firewood is too much. b) if your dogs are sensitive to loud noises, ask to have a site far away from the gun range. The shots were very loud and constant. c) there was dog poop everywhere. We have 3 and always pick up. There should be "dog stations" with bags and a trash pail. d) Wifi hotspot, so basically no wifi. Also, no cable at our site. We did have an unexpected surprise with live music and a bonfire on Saturday night. Loved it.

My site was awesome! Right on the river. I caught 2 nice brookies and a rainbow. Neighbors were a bit noisy the 1st night . The washroom and showers near my site were old, very dimly lit and coin operated. I was really put off by that. However, as I left to use the dumping station that washroom was updated clean and bright. Hope they update those other ones as I would love to have that site again.

This visit was that "vacation you need after vacation". We had just spent 12 days touring, sight seeing, and kayaking along the coast of Maine, so we took a two-night break before the next leg of our journey. RV sites, office, laundry, and bathrooms/showers were clean. Office and grounds keepers were all very nice. I couldn't get the shower to work, even with instructions posted and followed. Now if they could just get rid of those mosquitos!!
