I was very sad coming here. I was very disappointed with the care of the animals. The fish had ick, the aquariums were dirty, on the bottom of the aquatic plant tank there was a piece of scrap metal, they were cohabitating two adult leopard geckos and a baby bearded dragon, and worst of all I found a VERY skinny savannah monitor. She was clearly very sick and skinny. She didn't react to my touch and never opened her eyes. Monitors are very active and move to move. They require very big enclosures. She was in a small gecko display cage. I was very sad to see this. Please do research on how to care for the animals.Update: I revisited the store to see if there were any improvements. Definitely cleaner. Unfortunately, the care has not changed. I took more photos but I can’t figure out how to post them on an edited post. They had multiple lizard species in one tank. Green iguana, spiny tail iguana, red headed agama, tarantula, millipede and another invert. Then there were gargoyle geckos and crested geckos in one cage. Gargoyle gecko will eat the crested gecko. Plus they’re both males, very aggressive. Corpse fish is still there and covered in ick.

I read the reviews and was expecting the worst but it wasn't bad. It seems to be a family owned shop trying their best and that's what matters. I wasn't impressed by the rodent care but it wasn't horrible. They have multiple amazing well established planted tanks. I'm not sure why they have so many critical reviews that claim it smells terrible. I have been in plenty of pet stores that smell a million times worse. Overall a good store. Definitely stop by if you have a chance.

First when I walked in I was hit with the worst smell ever. Not sure if it was trash or the dirty tanks and lack of care for the animals. No greeting from the staff when I walked in and given a creepy vibe. Though the cages don’t seem to be too dirty they are poorly lit for the rodents and very tiny and overcrowded for the birds. The fish room is very dark and at times you may be able to spot a dead one.I love to give small business’ credit but this is not it.

Small little mom and pop shop amazing experience and a great selection of pets. It has a home vibe to it. None of the animals are over crowded. They are extremely helpful and help you understand and they ask questions about where the animal would go and how to help make the environment develop to the ideal specs for the certain pets.

Great selection of plants and fish, I got platies here and they have much more vibrant colors than petsmart. The plants are good quality and are much cheaper than buying the pre packaged plants at petsmart. Great place for aquariums!

EXTREMELY saddened and disgusted. The fish aquarium’s are not well lit, with half dead fish. Appears one of them is leaking onto the floor. Over 80 degrees in the building. ALL besides 3 small birds are in enclosures with NO room to fly, NO toys or anything for stimulation. ALL rodents are struggling to breathe due to the heat. Very very upsetting and not acceptable.

I don't even know what to say about this place. It's absolutely foul. There wasn't a single clean enclosure or tank. Everything was coated in grime. There was an enclosure filled with old food and feathers that was covered in spiderwebs. How long was that sitting uninhabited and dirty to fill with spiderwebs??? The rodent/bird room was filthy. We had to leave, I couldn't breath. The gerbils clearly were ill, I have no idea how any creature exists in that place. And the stock of supplies was so bare, I was shocked. I don't know where all of these good reviews are coming from, but I fear for their pets.

Great local pet store. They have good variety of reptiles, and arachnids as well as a huge variety of fish. The owner can always answer any questions I have. They have crickets and other feeder insects in stock %99 of the time.They also board your reptiles while you're on vacation, which can be sometimes tricky to get someone to do.

Awesome variety of fish, the owner knows EVERYTHING about the animals he sells. Great place, great guy and always nice to support a local business! Also, one of the only places in the area where you can get live feeder mice for snakes. Huge help when you don't want to drive to plaistow for zoo creatures!

Staff answered all questions and made suggestions based on my needs and preferences! The place is a little beat up but don't let that keep you away. Their extensive knowledge on all products and critters are so much better than big box pet stores! Their aquatic plant selection is pretty large and they have lots of live insects to feed to all kinds of pets!

I went in today just because I saw it was a local shop that wasn't Petco or PetSmart because they have really basic stuff and usually aren't very clean with their aquariums for their fish. This place had not only a very nice selection of different species and every tank was extremely well kept. The guy who was working was even nice enough to tell me he had a shipment coming in of a species I really wanted. I can't wait to pick one up!

By far the best small family owned pet store around. Customer service is excellent. Great fish selection. And the owner is extremely kind and knowledgeable. Much recommended! Glad to support a local business as well!

This is a really nice local shop. I usually go to Pet City to get frozen food for my snake. They now have large frozen mice, small frozen rats and large frozen rats. They also have live snake food if that's what you need. Everyone whom I've spoken with has been nice & friendly.

When I first walked in, the smell was awful. The place is so dirty and it literally makes you feel like you are breathing in toxic fumes. I feel so bad for the animals here. In the cage with the mice there was a litter of babies and the mice were eating the babies alive, it was horrific and so upsetting. I don’t know how it could go unnoticed. I left feeling so sad!!

Went here because my daughter wanted another rat and Pet Smart doesnt have them. I was so suprised. This place is fun and has beautiful small animals and so many fish. The place looks tiny from the outside, we had no idea it was that big. The man running the place is great, very nice and answers whatever questions you have with a smile. Really good experience here.

Small local pet shop focused on Aquariums and Reptiles. The staff seems very knowledgeable. I saw many fish, frogs, and lizards. Good selection of aquatic plants. Not as large as a big chain store, but good for fish and reptile enthusiasts!

Excellent pet store. One of the best. Very knowledgeable and helpful with animal care. Always kept clean and healthy animals. Called him several times for help with my fish and he does not rush the phone call. Takes every minute to help assist. Treats you with respect and takes the time needed to educate pet owners.

been purchasing my hamsters and rats here for years. I'm usually very happy with them. i've had a few that were bred badly and live short lives, also since they do not separate male and female rats and mice i have gotten one of both when i specifically asked for one gender. it's quite frustrating when you ask for two males and get a male and female and don't realize until you're already home, and have them in their cage for a few days. but other than that this pet store is amazing, it's the only place i trust for hamsters and rats since they are bred well. I just wish the staff was better at sexing the animals.

Absolutely disgusting store. I feel so angry and sad for these poor animals.The fish tanks are horrid with so many dead fish, including ich in at least one of the tanks. The fish room looks like it could be in a horror movie. Some of the tank lights were flickering or dead, and the room was quite dark.The reptiles looked sickly, skinny, and unresponsive.There were a couple birds that looked sickly, all puffed up, and they really need beak trimmings, as one bird's jaw was completely lopsided with its beak being so long. The sun conure was in a tiny cage, next to a cage with a giant rat that was bigger than it, and I don't know if it was squwaking because it was stressed because of the rat, or it was bored and stressed in general, because it stopped when I walked up to it.The rodent room was absolutely revolting. Wire wheels. Are you kidding me?? There was NO enrichment, one of the gerbils was stress chewing on the wire wheel, plus it had 2 babies so obviously they're housing a male and a female together, there were 30+ mice in a cage with no wheel (just because they're probably feeder mice, doesn't mean they don't deserve to have a decent life beforehand). There were no huts for them to hide either, and not enough bedding for them to burrow into.I regret not taking pictures, but there are other reviews that include pictures that still apply now.There needs to be laws for regulating pet stores. Shame on Pet City. Do better.

My family and I took a drive up to Pet City in hopes of finding a hidden gem. Unfortunately, we left disappointed. The fish selection was scarce and the fish that were there were generic, to say the least. Although there are a number of tanks, many were empty and looked a bit dingy. Even the gentleman barely acknowledged us throughout our visit. After visiting many fish stores in the area, I was sorry to have wasted our time.The only potential saving grace is that due to Covid-19, the store is having difficulty with supplying healthy fish. However, we recently visited another tropical fish store and fish supply was not an issue...

So incredibly disappointed with the care of animals at this place. Smelled like mold. Birds barely get any sort of sunlight. Cages incredibly dirty and not cleaned out. There were dead mice in the tanks, small animal care was absolutely terrible. Pregnant mice in with dead mice. I was horrified. Do not support this place, how are there not regulations with the care of animals here?? So sad.

Mr. Sadowski was extremely nice and didn't talk to us like we were stupid when we came in seeking advice. My experience with pet store employees is they either have no idea what they're talking about and don't care or they talk to you like you're stupid because you're not an expert on the matter. This was a great experience.

My boyfriend and I came here, the employee didn’t say much of anything, what’s concerning is the habitats for the animals are way too small. You have a 10 gallon tank for skink, two different species were sharing the same enclosure. The chinchilla habitat was extremely scary with how tiny the enclosure was. The room felt way too warm for it to be in also the bunny habitat was way too small. None of the reptiles have an actual basking light, or proper uvb I’m just concerned for these animals, I have a chinchilla and bearded dragon, also you’re never supposed to use a red light and ofc there was a red bulb, the guy didn’t even greet customers or say a word. Also I’m pretty sure you cannot have 6 male rats sharing a tiny enclosure as well. they had like no room to move. These poor animals are NOT receiving the greatest care. I think 2 of the rats are dead, I thought petco and petsmart were bad. Just please actually take care of these animals.
