This is our go to spot for all our pets and the staff are so friendly and helpful! But they are so understaffed at the moment. The couple people working the last two times we’ve been there are not able to do everything, such as take care of customers and animals in such a huge store. No fault of their own whatsoever and they do the best they can. We will continue to go!But—for such a big nationwide company, I would think that upper management would help them and make their jobs less stressful by finding solutions to this issue.

Honestly I stopped in because my sister and I needed to use a rest room. After we used the very clean facilities I found a nice treat for my dog and we perused the available pets. The staff was helpful, funny, and not only answered our questions happily but went above and beyond making sure we not only had a great time while we were there but that we could continue our fun after we left. 10/5 stars for customer service!

This is one of the worst petcos. I have seen the aquatics is horrible they also left the bird door open when I was in store they had cyano in fishtanks and like no live rock in tank. Fish did not look happy or health. They left seaweed open and sitting on a shelf as well as a bucket of marine flakes. They were also missing tags for fish and not very knowledgeable about the aquatics

There is s variety of products here for a variety of pets. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, and very helpful. Their crickets are expensive in comparison to other local pet suppliers and they are also prepackaged by quantity, which leads to the inevitable dead crickets you end up having to purchase with the live ones. This is the only local pet supply store that carries dubia roaches, but again they are prepackaged like the crickets, and you will end up purchasing dead ones along with the live ones. They do appear to take care of their animals well.

I've been coming here with my dog since she was 12 weeks old. The staff are so warm and welcoming and always remember my dogs name. Sometimes we just go to get out of the house on a rainy day and they are always happy to see us. Alex in the grooming department is also great, We always ask for her but if we can't get her the others have been good too.

Great petco. Loved the verity of dog items. Pretty good aquarium section. People were super friendly. Gave my dog some free treats and made him work for it ;) . Some pallets and stuff in isles but looks like they moving stuff around. Overall great store!

I went in to purchase a gecko last November. One of the workers in the reptile department told me I should buy 2 because they like to have a buddy. I learned later by a reptile specialist that they could potentially fight because they are not supposed to be together. I was also told to buy all of the wrong items. All of which could hurt my new geckos. When I tried to return the items they wouldn't take it back because of the return policy even though they are the ones that suggested these items. Granted I should have done more research before buying these pets. However their staff is not knowledgeable in the reptile department. Do your research before purchasing reptiles from this Petco.

I had left a five star on groomers. Perhaps they have someone else or they don’t want to see my two dogs again, but last visit wasn’t especially good and now I’m no longer contacted for future visits. Also note their 30 day return policy. I’m stuck with a new collar I bought 40 days ago and was slow to return it. I’ll donate it to a local rescue and will not go to Petco ever again.

Best Petco in the area!!I went to the other Portsmouth petco and they were so rude about my boyfriend and I asking to look at one of the hamsters so we left. We went to this Petco and they were 10000 times better. The staff were all friendly and took great care of all of the animals. It looks like all the rodents are handle kindly and frequently at this place. I’m not the type to wright reviews but this was just such a friendly place or everyone. So glad we found the hamster we did because he’s so sweet thanks to all the kind workers here. 10/10 would recommend this place.

I brought my chihuahua Sophie in, they did a great job! I did call 2 days in a row with no return call. I figured they were short handed like everywhere else. So when I went in to schedule an appointment they asked if I had time then and I did. Bath, trim nails and backside. 5 days later she's still fluffy lol. I will definitely be bringing her back. Highly recommend this store.

This location is ALWAYS a mess!Multiple pallets of merchandise completely blocking some isles every time that I've been in.Dog food (Purina Pro Plan) is never in stock, despite it being readily available at a local competitor.This location is a complete disaster. Save your time and go to PetSmart.

The veterinarian and her assistants were all wonderful. Treated our dogs and us with kindness and respect. Well versed in the needed vaccinations. Overall great experience, will definitely be returning with our pets.

Had an odd experience here where I was trying to buy another fish for my tank and was actively being talked out of buying something. Just thought it was odd, had never experienced going into a store and being talked out of buying something….and then…recommended to guy to another petco… just odd 🤷‍♂️

I always find what I want/need. Your staff is very friendly and helpful. They know my dogs name and say hello in delight. Your groomers are so good for all of the same reasons. To go to Petco is a fun trip.we do weekly.

For medical reasons I have to feed my dog a specific kind of refrigerator stored food. Portsmouth S store always have it in stock. Clerks are quick to see me when I come into pick up. Thank you for the great service.

I love this store, most of the time I can count on it having an item I need that the other Portsmouth Petco may be out of. But before I walked in tonight I could see the register employee through the large glass window behind the register on his phone and sitting down. When I did see him walking around he had a wireless headphone in, at 5:30pm. I love this store cause most of the staff is super friendly. Keep up the hard work.

I’ve had my golden retriever groomed here a few times and they always trim more than I ask. I ask them just to go for the knots. Usually they leave her beautiful feathery coat alone but this time, they totally shaved her. They shaved her chest, legs, ears, sides, everything. In places where knots are not even possible. Who the hell would do that to a dog with a naturally beautiful coat??? It’s a golden retriever, not a poodle. They never listen and now this. I will NEVER go back and hope the person who did this goes to get their hair cut and comes back with a mullet or bald. I’m not even one of those crazy dog people. This is just messed up.

I love Petco and the south store is close to my house only 1.5 miles is my to go pet store. They have the cats that are shown for adoption, which I like to stop by and say hello to the cats and so the birds. The people who work at the store are the nicest workers. They are nice to the customer and take their time to answer your question or just to talk about pets. This is my favorite store.

Bought my kitty a Halloween Costume here. So darn cute! Bigger selection of clothes for dogs too, lots of cute things!! Checkout was very quick & easy & cashier was very informative about the rewards program. We donated the money we saved today back to Petco's "Help train service dogs for Veterans" program & received a free bag for doing so.

Friendly but hands off staff (a good thing!) - lots of harder to find aquarium accessories and tanks. Get there during sales and the prices are good. Saltwater fish and freshwater. Lots of aquatic plants!
