The owner of the place, Nikki, frequently kills animals in the shelter for no good reason. I went to the shelter a bit ago and saw a very sweet looking dog. No behaviour issues or infections or illnesses as far as I could see. Went again semi recently, dog was gone. Asked what happened and they were killed. All the rest of the employees are wonderful (albeit tired and clearly overworked).

They do not help I been calling for 5 months I have called calmly I was told one thing for them to say something else on top of them not answering sending me to voicemail and for the person who takes in the dogs told me she will not be working with me cus I was hostile well one I wouldn't have been hostile if you answered your phone y'all get 5000 dollar donations and still won't help some one who's telling you she's losing her mind and has mental health issues that she can't handle or take care of her dog for YOU TO BE HOSTILE AND Be RUDE BECAUSE I LEFT A MESSAGE A VM BECAUSE YOU DONT ANSWER YOUR PHONES DO NOT CALL HERE THEY DO NOT HELP. AND THIS IS MY OPINION

It's gone way downhill. I used to volunteer here. The current staff are zombies and clearly just want to go home when their shift is over. Very impersonal and the front reception area smells horrible. I get there is going to be a little funk in the air with all the animals but c'mon. Get some of the staff who are standing around gossiping or looking at their phones to start cleaning.The good news is I adopted a great cat who now has a safe, loving home.Don't let this review keep you from adopting an animal. Maybe it will motivate you because while the administration and staff may turnover frequently the animals are still there begging to be taken out of that house of horrors.

We adopted a dog, Smeagles, about 2 years ago. After getting him medical help for his thyroid, he lost some weight and became a very happy dog. His name is now Gabe and he just loves living with us. We got a female dog about a month before we got him and they are inseparable. She has taught him how to be a dog. They play together, they share a futon as their bed, and when they go out to do their business in the back yard they always wait for each other and come in together. He has brought us a lot of happiness and most times he thinks he is a puppy, and not an 8 year old. Thank you very much for letting us adopt Gabe into his forever home.

The staff at the U.V. humane society are generally pleasant and polite and they do have a nice selection of dogs and cats. However, at times I find them to be controlling and even oddly finicky and suspicious. For instance, the front entrance here is now always locked, even in the middle of the day (what is there to steal anyway?). Additionally, I once found a manager overbearing and even tried to instruct me on what animal to adopt, like this is a socialized adoption agency or something. Nevertheless, on the whole, I have had good relations with them for upwards of a quarter century, and do recommend them.

I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect cat. I visited many shelters and Upper Valley Humane Society was by far the best. The staff was great and so helpful to us during the process. I always felt respected. We ended up fostering to adopt and I couldn't be happier with my cat and our interactions with this shelter. Highly recommended.

Excellent experience. Adopting our dog was an easy smooth process. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The facility was clean. The animals all appeared Happy and Healthy. I would adopt from them again.

Well I just stopped in with my family to look at the cats and other animals but it's by appointment only so my family and I left without looking at anything not impressed at all because how can we see the animals you have if we can't go in. unhappy kids and wife

I'm very disappointed with the staff. My dog recently passed and I contacted the UVHS about donating his leftover food, treats, medication, and toys. They emailed me back thanking me for reaching out and thinking of them, and proceeded to let me know what items were acceptable. They closed out by informing me I can drop off items in their donation bin anytime of the day/week, which I did.It has been a week and I am flabbergasted that not once did they offer their condolences or sympathies on the loss of my dog! This is soul crushing that an organization working with animal adoptions has no empathy for people who lose a beloved family member. This action is so contrary to what I experienced 13 years ago when I also lost my dog at that time. Perhaps the UVHS can conduct staff training on how to offer condolences, and be more sympathetic towards donors who lose a cherished family member.

Very disappointed when there website says no holds on kittens due to the demand, call to injure about one and there is a hold on it for more then 24 hours out. Guess it depends on who you are if they follow policy or not

If there was a negative star, they would get it. They gave an elderly lady (she is 80+) a small dog, but did not disclose that the dog had a biting history. The woman was bitten, several times, and her friend was bitten as well. When they returned the dog, they finally told her that the dog has a biting history. Shame on them. Shame.
