I have worked in rescue and I personally know one of the volunteers who works here. Rescues are unable to answer 150 emails for one dog - especially if they are entirely volunteer-run. This shelter is full of people volunteering their time - no pay involved - because they want to help animals. There is nothing in it for them, except helping animals. Have some compassion. If you're not selected to take home one of their animals, apply again or elsewhere - don't go on Google to one-star a literal animal rescue because you're angry they didn't email you back. They care about their animals and are matching each of them with the best possible homes.

We were recommended to reach out regarding our now dog Remy. My wife and I were lucky enough to work with Patrice who was absolutely amazing and you can tell truly cares about the animals she fosters and tries to make sure it is a fit for both the animal and potential adopter. We highly recommend working with this organization and Patrice should be recognized for her amazing work and we are so thankful for her helping us with Remy.

Easy to work with and they found the perfect dogs for me. They don’t require a fenced in yard which is huge for us!Everyone who volunteers loves the animals they help and give them the best care!

I donated 1000$ dollars to a person to be distributed to vets in need that help people that can't afford to have their cats spayed neutered and shots i found out 500$ was given to the Derry humane who have an application that is impossible to be accepted.they make you pay hundreds of dollars just to get a pet i urge everyone not to use them . If I could take back the money and give it to the other charity I would

These are the most caring and animal loving group of people I have ever met. They work hard to find homes for these beautiful dogs and cats. Thanks for your hard work!

Nobody ever gets back to you.I have contacted them with interest in 2 dogs over the past 6 months.Filled out their ridiculous app wanting to know everything about my life, emailed, called. All with no response. After all that I believe some type of response is professional and proper.Every review here, it seems the owner is argumentative with everyone, insisting how busy they are and volunteers. Too busy for a text? Really...I question that these places really have the interests of the animals at heart or even care.Or just if the people involved forget the being kind to people aspect of the adoption."We want the best for the animal but are going to treat you like dirt in the process...."Its easier to adopt a child....Ridiculous.Dont even bother commenting with excuses mr. Owner.I've already read them all.

"We receive many applications, so not everyone can be chosen. There are many rescues with dogs in need. Please do not wait for us. We wish you luck finding your perfect match."Well, are we "chosen" or no? And why?No one has called us, or asked us to call them, and we are home every day.We have an 11 year old Dog, and want a new partner for him, Senior Dog is fine too.Having lost Oscar at 11.5 years due to kidney failure was heartbreaking. And the unprofessional and uncaring attitude if GDHS has made things worse.Horrible experience. Find another Group to surrender your Dog to, or even take the time to adopt out yourself.I guess we will look elsewhere as "please do not wait for us" is an obvious hint.We hope to help and maybe even a Senior Dog very soon.Instead of spending time arguing with people, pick up the phone and call someone to go over their application. And spend the time reviewing criticism and improving processes. And don't make a Senior Dog wait any longer for adopting than is needed because of your personal non-sense.For those seeing this nonsense - we are experienced Dachshund owners, and are home full time. We lost Oscar due to Kidney Failure, and are looking for a new partner for Frankie (11 years old - birthday 8/1/2011Home visit here in Allenstown welcome also. - And Vet is Allenstown Animal Hospital.Thank you kindly,Glen and Kathy Robertson

It is difficult to say. I emailed an application in late March. We haven't heard back yet. The GDHS is entirely run by volunteers so I would imagine they're pretty busy. I'll do a more detailed review when we have a more complete experience.

My husband and I were looking for a dog here. We sent multiple emails with no response. Finally we called several times. Finally, someone answered and the same response we always received was fill out and application and we will go from there and we are volunteers! Ok, sounds great! So we filled out an application. Again, we didn't hear anything back, until we called again and again and again. We then finally got a hold of a volunteer who was not very friendly and again just told us fill out an application, which we did and said again were all volunteers and that the foster owener would call us!!! Again, not in a friendly manner! We absolutely understand that they are volunteers! However, no need for the rudness when asked simple questions because again we never received timely responses to any of our inquiries. So Finally I gave this humane center a one star rating and in seven hours I received an unfriendly comment asking why I posted a 1 star rating?? As a humane society you responded quicker to my rating then you ever did with us trying to adopt a pet?

I fostered for them for most of 2022. They are poor at communicating and poorly run. When i got an animal from them they didn’t tell me any of it’s history or provide me any support. I picked it up from another GDHS foster home and her house was filthy and had mousetraps everywhere, but they saw no problem housing a cat in such a home. The people that run this don’t actually care about the animals. If you want to get involved with volunteering and helping animals go to your local ASPCAUpdate: Their “home check” is just a facetime call and they didn’t even ask to see the whole house, just one room. I was not an adopter just a foster, and when i tried to contact paula, who runs GDHS she wouldn’t return my calls or texts regarding the animals I fostered. I have 3 other cats and 2 dogs a 125 fee is not an issue lol

We were all set to foster to adopt a dog from this rescue. We are VERY experienced pet owners and know what we are doing. We had a home check and were thoroughly prepared for our new addition to be turned down. The listing said that she was good with cats, we were then told that she was not. 1. We always separate cats from dogs when not at home and made that clear. 2. Our cats are more than used to handling dogs.We are truly heartbroken and feel very betrayed. We have worked with many rescues and volunteered with them as well. We do NOT recommend this particular one when looking for your next family member.

Just because you "want" a particular dog or cat ,as the previous reviewer stated, doesn't mean they will just "give" it to you. There is a process that rescues go through to choose the best adopter for the dog or cat's particular needs. I felt comfort in this when I had to surrender my dog. My dog ended up in a home that was perfect for her.

Very unprofessional. We inquired about a dog, application accepted, the day before the home visit they said never mind the fosters want to keep the dog, oh well pretty much. They didn't know how to email, didn't tell us about the adoption process. Will never use this rescue again. Educate your volunteers on how to properly run a rescue. I worked for a shelter for 2 yrs

I just popped by to donate food. But, they help animals so they get a 5 star. I do not have Amy experience with them though.

This shelters in private homes, does not have a kennel building. In many ways this is better than a staffed building.
