Cats, cats, and more cats! The shelter staff and volunteers are sweet, knowledgeable and helpful. They adopt cats out surprisingly quickly, so if one interests you place a hold on your kitty or she may be gone the next time you pop in!Parking is a challenge and the shelter hours are limited and changeable. The volunteers here are extremely kind. Five stars for the selfless ways they give to the cats and our community. The small area is set up efficiently and kept clean. When I last went in I was happy to see each kitty had a human companion to play with. Thank you ladies for all you do.

We gave our baby girl to them due to her peeing all over everything n it was getting worse n worse. Wasn't sure if it was medical or not. I couldn't afford the 100s of dollars for her. Trust me this killed me. They call me n listen to this they tell me well if we told the truth no one would want to adopted her. So lie? What? I know they r helping but that was not called for at all. Making me seem like a monster. Everyone said it was the right thing. I have 2 kids n it hurt all of us. They said it was cuz we were moving. That had nothing to do with it I wasn't sure if she was suffering or not. I just wanted to make sure she'd b ok. They were so nice when I dropped her off idk why they are doing this. They said I could call n check on her n all that then call n tell me I never had an appt that I did set up. I was crying to her asking why n she jus hung up on me. So just be careful. I will always love u baby girl no matter what ppl say I know the truth.

Just amazing! I adopted a cat about a month ago and I could not be more grateful. The staff are all extremely nice and answered all question with glee, the store is kept clean and all cats were treated great. These are people who genuinely care about the animals they house, they made sure that adoption went smoothly and all animals are going to a safe and loving home.

Anyone in the Claremont NH area that is looking to adopt a homeless cat is urged to check out this place. The staff is awesome and very understanding. The cat's here are very adorable and need a loving home so skip the pet store and adopt from the Sullivan County Humane Society just remember no matter the age of the cat you can always train it like a kitten and have a loving friend for life.

The women who run this place are very unkind and judgmental people they will publicly shame anyone even when it has nothing to do with them. Please read thru the reviews before visiting them they have been known for stealing people's cats as well. They have no problem making community members feel like they are less than for absolutely no reason. This is a prime example of power going to someone's head. If you are looking to donate to a shelter I urge you to keep looking this is not the place

They love their animals and make certain that only the right homes will become rescue pet homes. I couldn't be happier with the cat my daughter got, and I'm not even a cat person. She came with all her shots and flea treatment, spayed, and even an ease-off amount of her shelter diet.

99% of the staff are very kind and obviously have the animals' best interest in mind. There is one woman though who is ruining the reputation of this place. I don't normally even leave reviews but this lady pushed me over the edge and I have a feeling she is the one all the negative reviews speaking of rude staff are about. We adopted two cats and every part of the process she was involved in consisted of her talking over us, being rude and judgemental and essentially making it clear that if we weren't the exact same kind of pet owner she was then we were inferior and not worthy of owning pets. I'm surprised she even let us take the cats home as it was made clear to us that our house was not perfectly up to her standards. Our house is fine and we've had pets our whole lives, most of which have been rescues and all of whom have lived long happy lives with us. Fast forward three or four months and these cats just were not working out in our home. We'd tried everything to alleviate the problems we were having with them and none of it was working. I thought about it long and hard but ultimately decided a house with a different dynamic would probably suite these cats a lot better. When we adopted and they asked what we would do if it ever wasn't working out with the cats we said we'd bring them back, as any reasonable adopter would. I wish they had told us at that point that this woman would treat us like murderers if we actually did that. When we brought them back this woman was not the one there. The person we dealt with was very level headed and empathetic and I was very honest and open about all we had tried and how I got to the decision I did. We even put in an application for a different cat while we were there as I was thinking I would still like to give a cat in need a forever home and hopefully it would be a better fit this time. I wish I had saved the audio from the voicemail I got from this woman and could post it hear for all to listen to first hand. She told me based on the fact that I returned the cats I did (in and exasperated and astonished and scornful voice) she was ripping down my application for the other cat and wasn't welcome to ever adopt from them anymore. She said more than that but that was the summary of all her harsh words. I didn't take this issue up directly with the shelter because I'm going to guess they already know and no one is brave enough to stand up to this lady but wanted to post this publicly to save anyone from the same experience we had. There are plenty of other local shelters to adopt from where the staff truly has the animals' best interest at mind and would respect someone for returning an animal under the circumstances and for the reasons that we did. Just go somewhere else. This breaks my heart because the animals are suffering and staying homeless at Sullivan County Humane Society because of this one woman.

Make sure you chip your cats even tho they fail to check for a chip and will rename and post your cats for adoption. Infamous for stealing your cats and making you pay to get them back. Taking your cats and posting them on the Facebook page, deleting the posts, your comments or arguing with you about how it’s your fault clearly. Got cancer? Be careful, let them get a hold of your cat you’ll never get it back. Also no this isn’t any personal experience of mine but I’ve been watching from the sidelines long enough to know that they are corrupt. They have done this to more than one of my friends. They will never be getting my families donations again. 10/10 give 0 f***s if they are posting a cat who has a happy loving home who wants them back.

Great group of staff and volunteers who are incredibly thorough when adopting out the cats and kittens in their care! The two kittens we adopted in 2014 have grown up to be such incredible love bugs! Highly recommend adopting from here!

This will be a bit long but worth the read I think so bear with me!First we have 5 cats none of which we planned to have. Started with a pregnant stray that literally wandered into our home in NC, Gve birth not long after but shunned the babies and subsequently took off so we raised them on the bottle on up- 4 of them. We paid to have the 2 boys fixed right away as it was cheaper, got their shots etc. Fast forward almost 2 years we moved back home up here to NH. We ended up with another stray kitten. She couldnt have been more than maybe 7 or 8 weeks old. Timid but very lovable. I found her living in a dumpster but at first wasnt sure if she belonged to someone so we were hesitant to take her but agreed the next week we came that way if she came back to me we would take her. She knew the sound of my truck and came running so fast she ran right by me, stopped and turned and before I could even bend over this tiny thing leapt to my chest (I'm 6 ft)! So we took her home and integrated her with the other 4. Cost as I live on disability from the VA and my wife works part time precluded us from getting the girls fixed for awhile until I heard about the SCHS doing clinics for cheaper than elsewhere. So we were able to have all 3 fixed at once, get their shots too and all for less than a vet wouldve charged for a single cat!! I cant thank them enough for that as these little furballs are part of the family and we love them. 1 of the girls has a marking/peeing issue so we are hoping having her spayed will fix that. But without their clinic we wouldnt have been able to do it.

Clean, well kept, animals are well cared for. Cats only. Great place to volunteer. Kids can volunteer with adult supervision. Kids 13 and older can volunteer on their own with parental permission and appropriate behavior. Great place!

Showed up on my neighbors property claiming they were going to set traps to catch "strays" who aren't even strays.. they have homes! When she was told they had homes she stated she did not care, she was going to come back with traps to catch said cats, "fix" already fixed cats that have homes & "return" them.

We went there to get a bag of dog food... they asked us why we are getting dog food.. very rude! They insinuated that because we were broke that time that we shouldn't have pets. Oh they will say we come the all the time, but it's every once and a while. Anyways, I asked them why they were being rude to us.. they couldn't come with an answer. This was after were told then that we got a new old dog because our other one passed away recently. They kept saying that if ar couldn't afford to feed it, we shouldn't have it... I'm never going there ever again. If I could give negative stars I would.Update: we got banned permanently from there over dog food... do yourself a favor and do not patronize this place.

I went in looking for my missing cat. The ladies in there were extremely rude and uncooperative. It's nice to have no support in finding my cat from people who are supposed to care for these animals.
