My dog Fiona loves it here! It makes me so happy that every time I drop her off she is sooo excited to be taken back. The first visit they were happy to let her stay for FREE for the afternoon to test out how she liked being there and they reported she was shy but sweet and would keep her around similar dogs that matched her energy until she got more confident around other dogs. This was very refreshing to hear because I had tried other daycares and they were not so patient with figuring out if she would be a good fit.She loves the staff and has been around such great dogs and learned to be better socialized! She was very shy of other dogs and in only a month of taking her I've seen improvement in her behavior around dogs on our at home walks! I hope to keep bringing her here for a long time!

My small energetic dog loves Urban Hound! And they love her! Attention to my dog’s personality and needs. She is well cared for while I’m at work. The staff always give me updates and details of her day, they are really kind, love dogs and very compassionate. The staff really make Urban Hound five stars. The price is very reasonable too. And the new owner Heather has made Urban Hound even better! Thanks Urban Hound!

We brought our dog into Urban Hound on Friday 9/15. We have been bringing our dog to Urban Hound for around 8 years now. Up until this point I would have given them 5 stars but this time was different. My dog is old and has some problems that we shared with the workers. The main problem being his hips. We told them that he has bad hips and he does not get up very well and that you need to be patient with him. They were fine with it and seemed happy to take him, until I took him into the actual kennel area where the worker was very hostile with me. When we picked him up today two workers were manhandling him and carrying him out of the kennel because they didn’t want to be patient and let him get up on his own. Then they proceeded to tell us that he is no longer welcome there. I thought these people were supposed to be experts on how to take care and treat dogs. Guess we just give jobs to anybody now.

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAT HERE.Nor would I bring my dog here based on the lack of compassion and professionalism Heather, the owner of the Urban Hound has demonstrated towards me and my pet.I received a call from Heather less than 24 hours after leaving my cat in the care of the Urban Hound demanding that he be picked up and frankly she could not have been ruder and less helpful. She would not let me complete a sentence or ask a question regarding the wellbeing of my pet without talking over me with a hateful tone. I repeatedly had to ask her to let me finish speaking (after which she snarkily asked "are you done talking?")- yes, let that sink in that the person that would potentially be charged with the care and wellbeing of your animal doesn't seem to know how a conversation is supposed to function. Her only solution to my cat's aggressive behavior, was that he leave the Urban Hound facilities. The Urban Hound could not manage my 13 year old, 11 lb cat (who, mind you, is confined to a cage in their cat facility and kept in a separate space from the dogs)- would you trust them to manage the health and safety of your dog in the presence of 70+lb dogs? She was also unable to tell me the status of my cat's food consumption (and thereby stress medication consumption), and couldn't be bothered to review his medications before demanding he be removed from the facility; medications specifically for stress with instructions allowing for additional dosages of stress medications as required by his behavior. This is NOT who you want making decisions regarding the health and safety of your animal. Incidents of aggression can and do happen frequently at boarding facilities and this is a very concerning real-life instance as to how the Urban Hound reacts to such incidents. The inability of Urban Hound staff to manage this situation speaks volumes to their breadth of knowledge and experience (or lack thereof).I did end up transferring my cat to a new facility and less than an hour of arriving at the Cat Chalet he was allowing staff to pet and handle him. The staff at the Cat Chalet reported that my cat was covered in feces and urine when they picked him up from the Urban Hound, which was not mentioned to me by Heather and should have never have happened had adequate facilities been provided. This one star review is administered independent of the fact that I made multi-week travel plans due to the fact that the Urban Hound agreed to care for my cat for up to a month. Cats do not adjust to new environments in the same manner as dogs, anyone with experience with cats (or common sense) would know this and I gave clear instructions to the staff as to how to manage this based on prior boarding experiences with my cat. So while ~1,000 miles away I had to find somewhere else to care for my cat as well as arrange for his pickup to at a new boarding facility the Cat Chalet. The Cat Chalet reported my pet as being "pretty traumatized" by his time at the Urban Hound.I can totally anticipate Heather responding to this review that the Urban Hound was unable to care for my pet due to a zero tolerance policy for aggression or something similar (despite my cat being kenneled) but while checking in the staff at the front desk was lamenting to me, a customer, about a Pomeranian that has knowingly bit multiple staff members and also speaking derogatorily about that dog's owner. If you are the owner of that Pomeranian named Roscoe, I would consider taking your business elsewhere as well.

I like this place a lot! I’ve been going here since 2021 and I really trust this place with my dog. Once he was sick while boarding and the owners called me to give updates as he recovered! My pup is always so excited to go :)

They really went above and beyond to make sure my girl had a safe and comfortable place to stay while we were on vacation. The owner isnt afraid to go the extra mile to accommodate our needs and it was so appreciated. Our girl always comes back to us so happy and so tired. I can always tell she was taken care of well becuase she is content and not anxiety ridden. We have booked with Urban Hound twice now and look forward to booking many more times. The prices are also great. Definitely reccomend Urban Hound for all our boarding needs.

Recently I had cause to be given a tour and service level peek into the inner workings and operations of this establishment. What I witnessed during the relatively short time I was there was alarming, and I feel responsible dog owners should be made aware of this so they may make an informed decision as to whether or not they desire for their pet to be cared for in such an environment as it stands at the time this review was written. While I was there I witnessed the reception area full of various peoples’ dogs extremely excited at seeing their owners for the first time since they were left at the kennel in various states of being leashed within incident distance of each other. If the dogs decided to get seriously territorial and protective when freshly reunited with their owners (Can you imagine?) there was nothing to prevent them from doing so. Even the kennel techs seemed very ineffective and nonchalant while a pair of dogs almost got into it while I was observing in the lobby. In the back, there are whole groups of dogs left effectively unattended. I saw no technicians supervising entire pens full of smaller dogs. I’m not sure if everyone at this business assumes that smaller dogs are incapable of getting into serious fights or what, but they are. As for the bigger dogs, they did have a couple of employees watching them, but each of them was well outside of either play area. Had a serious event occurred, neither employee would have been able to make it inside the pens to intervene before someone’s dog potentially had gotten seriously injured or worse. The dogs also wander about in these conditions with their own collars. This might seems like a minor thing to bring up, but these dogs are in a new area, in potentially stressful situations, with things on around their neck that can potentially get caught in things like fence grates. If you have the mental capability to read this review, then I am sure I do not need to go into graphic detail as to the ways this situation can go sideways. Responsible kennels will not let dogs in with their own collars, they will print their own with all the relevant info on a brightly colored collar that will tear off it gets caught on something. The staff seem nice enough and the facility itself is almost designed to be a good kennel facility. At the very least, your dogs will not be uncomfortable when they are in their individual rooms. The issues lie with the competency of the human element running things. Maybe things will change. For the sake of dogs whose owners do not take heed of this review, I certainly hope they do and this becomes obsolete. Until then there are plenty of other, safer locations in the Reno/Sparks area to take your dog.

Place is very clean and friendly. Large play spaces with areas for separation. Individual rooms are roomy. Our dog spent a week and and she was fine when picked up. Would definitely recommend.

I began using this place Urban Hound when I had to put my other dog Athena down because she had a brain tumor. Zachary was lonely so since UH was close to my church we took him there. He was 13 years old and had a heart condition. Anyway one Sunday February 16, 2020 I went in to pick him up and they informed me that my Zachary, my lil buddy, had escaped. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone. When I travel to Sacramento we pass by this area where he went missing and just cry, my heart will forever have a huge hole in it I have no closure .

Met the new owner, Heather, when checking in our dogs for an over night stay since we were hosting a Holiday party last Friday and wanted to reduce the stress on them: appreciated the efficiency and thoroughness of the checking-in process. Heather shared her excitement of being the director of operations, while her husband was handling the "face" of the business with new art work, FaceBook page and signage. The staff that were called to escort our babies ( a 75lb, 12 year old Weimaraner-Pittie mix and a 1.5 yr old, 30lb Chihuahua-Retriever mix), handled them calmly while accommodating the over excitement combined with the initial high anxiety of the younger pup. Was a bit concerned about taking my babies to an indoor facility but it is set up with loads of room to "work-out"/play with 4 separate areas/times, depending on energy level and size of the dog. Everything looked and smelled clean. They do walk them outside individually as there is an area at the rear of the building. Was pleased they could share their "suite" as they love to sleep together. They have beds and blankets so did not have to worry about bringing that in. Brought food as requested and the staff returned what wasn't consumed. Our dogs "free feed" and the staff made a note of that when asking how we wanted them to be fed. When picking up the doggies from the front desk area the next day, Jack, the owner's son, brought them out; he took the time to let us know how each of them did; activity wise, diet wise and socially. The pups were excited and happy when we picked them up AND slept most of the day when they got home: clearly had a good time. We were so appreciative of the staff, as all seemed to enjoy being there.

We have boarded our dogs here for many years. Scheduled boarding for this week. Just received a call from the "new owner" that they would not accept our bull mastiff because a note in the file indicated that at some unspecified point in the last five years he bit a staff member. I have 2 huge problems with this: 1) if this did occur, then failure to notify us was negligent; and 2) I do not believe that the file reflects no approximate date or time period for the incident. New owner claimed this was information from the old owner. If our dog bit a human, it would have been his first time, and only time, and I imagine would have caused marked injury. I do not believe I was provided with all the information available, and the new owner's eager referral to a dog training/boarding across the parking lot seems incredibly suspect--that place costs $1900. Our dog has had extensive and costly training, and has never bitten a human to our knowledge. I'm not saying he didn't--just that this whole chain of events culminating with a referral to an expensive service seems a little suspect.

This weekend was my dog's 1st boarding experience and she was frightened when I dropped her off. The Urban Hound staff kept her with them until she settled down and was ready to meet the other dogs. I really appreciated how they took the extra time with her to slowly introduce her to the others. They were very nice.

Incredible staff, wonderful owners, happy puppies! Our dog loves going and always comes home exhausted from playing. We have boarded our puppy there multiple times and we have always had an excellent experience. The last time we boarded our flights home were cancelled and we had to call to prolong her stay twice. Each time I was told not to worry about it and our puppy was happy. They were so kind. We will always be boarding our dog here.

So far, so good. I know the past owners had a horrible reputation, but my dog has stayed here at least 4-5 times for extended periods of time in the last 8-10 months without incident and my dog is challenging. Of course I don't allow him to go into doggy daycare so that limits the chances of anything going wrong. I find the staff friendly and my dog always seems happy and well fed when I pick him up. Prices are fair as well.

I’ve used this establishment three times. While my dogs seem happy here, they neglected to give my elderly dog her night time medications two days in a row, despite my labeling and using daily pill packets to assist them. In addition, I was charged holiday rates on a non holiday. Did you know Washoe County School District summer break is considered a holiday and thus subject to holiday rates? I will not be back.

As of 10/1/20, my wife and I are the new owners of Urban Hound! We couldn't be more excited about the place-- the dogs, the dog owners, the staff, and the whole place is great. Obviously whatever the previous owners did that was positive we're trying to capitalize and keep rolling. And like any other business, we find out what could have gone better and work to improve it. One thing is for sure though, we all care about the dogs' safety and fun. That's why we're here. Come on down and talk to Kelly or me!

I currently work at urban hound I would like to say that through the time I have worked here I have seen nothing but love and care for these animals that com in. The dogs leave happy and healthy everytime with a smile on the dog owners face. I even bring my dog, peaches with me a few times a week and she loves the other dogs and the environment.

Urban Hound is a clean and friendly atmosphere for my dog. My dog enjoys playing in the day care area as well as boarding overnight. I like the idea that my dog has his own spacious room to sleep in and gets to take walks throughout the day. The employees here are very friendly and love dogs. I have checked out other facilities in town and Urban Hound is the best.

I have been using Urban Hound for over a year and I love it! The staff are so friendly and my dog loves them. He runs to the door and sometimes doesn't want to leave when I pick him up after work. I have boarded him there and also use the play-care several times a week, and I always feel good leaving him there, knowing that he will be safe, well cared for, and have fun.I would highly recommend them.
