Recently we stopped here with my husband on our way to Death Valley. Perhaps one of the most unusual hotels I have stayed at!When we arrived late at night ( I appreciate the B&B calling to make sure we were on our way), I was immediately fascinated by the eclectic vibe of the location - our "Asian Suite" room (upgraded from "Standard") made me imagine the "brothel era" past of the place...Sleep was sound for us, but it must be noted that walls are thin, so you might consider bringing ear plugs if you're a sensitive sleeper. In the morning we were served a tasty breakfast, enjoyed in the company of other hotel guests. Sharing travel stories with them while sipping warm freshly brewed coffee - as gusty cold winds blew outside- was very cozy & memorable. The surrounding scenery was majestic and inspiring in its desolate stillness. I think I'd like to come back and admire it during a more sunny time of year.Overall - great experience with very welcoming hosts!P.S. Peacocks!!! Because of them and many colorful artsy hotel exterior details you literally feel like you're in a real desert oasis :)

What an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The hospitality here is unmatched, and the hosts, Nigel, Jennifer and Nigel’s cousin (I’m so sorry I forgot his name!) went above and beyond to make sure we AND our two dogs were comfortable (when we ran out of wine, they poured us glasses from their own kitchen, and when our dogs got cold, they wrapped them in warm blankets). We ate dinner outside, enjoying the sunset and the beautiful peacocks, and spent hours chatting with our hosts and other guests. The rooms were clean and breakfast in the morning was hearty and delicious. They are located on an extremely remote property, so make sure you come with dinner (Smokin’ J’s BBQ in Beatty is 30 min down the road - would highly recommend). I can’t emphasize how welcomed we felt and how generous the hosts are. 12/10 experience!

We stayed 2 nights with Jennifer and Nigel and would love to return when we next visit the USA. Really memorable stay in an amazing location. The paradise suite is very comfortable, clean and spacious. The jacuzzi bath was very welcome after a long day exploring Death Valley. Jennifer and Nigel are excellent hosts and really made us feel welcome. Thank you 😊

Jennifer was great, called me right back when she missed my call. I was shocked. She upgraded our room to accommodate my 3 critters. She was more than gracious to meet the needs of our 2 dogs & cat. She filled me in with my curious questions about the property. Bed is comfortable, rooms are adorable, cant wait to see it in the daylight & will definitely be back & share our experience with others.Nearby activities: Ryolite Ghost Town, Burros, Candy store at StageCoach Casino, Death Vally, Great BBQ Restaurant all in Beatty.

The owner of Shady Lady, Jennifer, is one of my favorite people in this whole wide world. We walked in and she was wearing a cheetah print coat and a bright orange hoodie and just looked cool as heck. Turns out - she is.Her and Paul were not only welcoming and accommodating, but became our friends over the two days that we stayed at Shady Lady. Jennifer is hilarious, she’s stylish, and she is so kind. She loves animals and she genuinely cares about her guests. She has a pet goat, cats, and about 40 peacocks and she takes great care of all of them. You can tell they are beloved. This was not only my favorite lodging of the trip - it was probably my favorite lodging ever. I would drive far out of my way just to spend more time with the two of them and to witness the beautiful mountains they’re surrounded by.Staying here is being part of history. It’s also being welcomed into a wonderful family. Shady Lady has a piece of my heart now. Jennifer and Paul stood outside and waved at us until they literally couldn’t see us anymore when we left. So much love here. So much goodness. That said, if you’re unlike me and want straight forward lodging with minimal interaction, they will absolutely accommodate that as well. I believe Jennifer has a strong sense of intuition for what people are looking for in an experience and adjusts according to what they need. The beds are super comfy and the themed rooms are exactly as they were when this was a functioning brothel. They are beautiful. You will have access to a full bathroom, kitchen, and living room during your stay. Paul made a delicious and visually appearing breakfast every morning and always had coffee brewing by the time we rolled out of bed. We were able to share a meal with other guests the first morning and chat about travels. It might seem like Shady Lady is in the middle of nowhere, but sometimes that’s where you need to be to decompress. It’s only about 30-60 minutes in either direction to Tonopah or Beatty and the drive goes by fast. If you’re feeling exploratory, check out Goldfield and Gemfield. We preferred Goldfield over the bigger towns.Thank you, Jennifer and Paul, for an amazing experience! I’m excited to stay in touch. More photos (these are just my phone photos) to come!Noteworthy details: Peacocks! Everywhere!!!!!

Jennifer and Nigel are amazing hosts of this hidden gem! The place is very cute, clean, and not far from Death Valley. I strongly recommend this B&B (although you might want to bring ear plugs as the peacocks are pretty loud during the mating season)It was my first time experiencing B&B and I will definitely stay here again when I revisit!

This place was such a sweet, somewhat eclectic stop on our journey! The owners were so kind and accommodating throughout our stay. We had a booking mistake and they gave us a room anyway. They were sweet to our pup and didn’t charge extra for him. Breakfast in the morning was incredible and they even made a plate for our dog!The place was clean, heavily decorated, had convenient parking and an beautiful view, as well as a nice pool (even though it was a little cold for that in February lol)If you don’t particularly enjoy the social, togetherness aspect of old school B&Bs, the communal dining room breakfast and meeting your neighbors may not be your cup of tea, but we were definitely well taken care of, the way one would be at a beloved grandparent’s house.Oh and there are peacocks. Tons of them, including a breathtaking white albino one.My husband, pup, and I would recommend this place to anyone. It was a highlight for sure.

I wish I could rate this place higher because the owners are so friendly - as all other reviews indicate. Perhaps we got an unusual set up but we had a room in a trailer that was shared with other rooms. Fun and quirky decor but our room felt dirty - not properly vacuumed and stains on the bed cover. If you're looking for a funky Nevada cultural experience, this is your jam, if you want a clean place to get good sleep, maybe keep driving.

We wanted to explore death valley and this motel was only 30mins away from it. Nigel and Jeniffer were the sweetest couple I have ever met. They were very warm and welcoming. The most amazing experience was waking up to peacocks in the backyard. There were around 40-50 peacocks and they even had a white peacock. The breakfast was amazing. Nigel showed us how to navigate through and which all points to get through Death Valley. They were very helpful. 5/5 service.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the Shady Lady B&B. Our hosts Jennifer and Nigel were very professional and accommodating. Mikah was very helpful. Breakfast was very good. Our room was nicely decorated and very clean . We plan on staying there again when traveling through that area. Also, loved the peacocks. Wow !

Easily the worst motel experience I've ever had. Booked through AirBnB and despite informing the hosts multiple times we'd be arriving late because of stargazing in Death Valley, we received multiple phone calls from them, including one with Nigel screaming at me.On arrival, they left numerous signs pointing to our room -- signs posted in common areas and hallways, leading anyone in the house to our unlocked room and unlocked bathroom, which remained unlocked for anyone to enter, despite it being "private" because we had no keys. Those signs had other guests' PII on the back (including phone number, date of travel, email address, names, etc). We also had no room key and therefore no ability to leave the room and our possessions without the risk of any other person -- who knew we would be there because of the public signs posted -- entering. The sheets in the room smelled like musty alcohol. I covered the pillow with a t-shirt, it was so disgusting. We also did not receive the room we booked, or one comparable.Next door, a gentleman was voice-communicating with a professional until 4am. The walls were very thin, so we could hear every lurid details of his texts. That fellow woke a few hours later blaring country music loud enough for the house to hear. The common areas had similar must with exposed mattresses and sheets. We were not offered breakfast.Would stay far, far away from this place.Rooms: Horrible uncomfortable, dingy, smelly, and musty.Nearby activities: There are none.Safety: Incredibly unsafe. I never want to stay in a motel where any guest can enter my room/bathroom prior to my arrival, or at any point when I step out.Walkability: Easy to walk into others' rooms because the owners will leave signs pointing right to them.Noteworthy details: The owners do not discard PII but instead use old printouts to place signs to people's rooms, viewable by all guests. Rooms have no privacy and sometimes (hopefully sometimes) no ability to keep them secure.

We stayed at the shady lady while visiting Death Valley National Park. It was great to get out of the valley where it was cooler, but we still had a breathtaking view of the night sky. The owner is incredibly welcoming and we were so happy to have met her. I definitely want to go back and stay longer in the future.Noteworthy details: Adored the peacocks on the property.

Lovely B&B with a very personal touch. Interior decoration is old fashioned victorian, but done nicely. The inn keepers are extremely friendly and you will get a ton of tips on what to do in the national park. Our room was clean and nicely heated. Breakfast is hand made as you like it.Food & drinks: Full American breakfast individually prepared to your liking

We stayed in the cabin and it was wonderful but no where near as wonderful as our host. We were treated with the utmost of care up to and including being brought breakfast because we were traveling with our Baby Grandson who has special care requirements. The cabin is a wonderful construct with a outdoor pool and if you are into waking up with the sun in your eyes and warming of your bed as it comes up over the mountains than this is the place for you. We absolutely enjoyed the peacocks and thought it was interesting how they would respond to our Grandsons cry's and cooing. I highly recommend

What a truly wonderful and unexpected experience! We got the cabin (highly recommended). It was spacious, clean, well appointed, and quaint, quaint, quaint! The proprietress and her helper were absolutely delightful, highly personable, and my do they like dogs!!! They truly go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and special.Although WELL off the beaten path, we went in January, and the combination of high desert, and being rimmed with snowy peaks (including Telescope Peak) was honestly rather stunning. This place is unique and QUITE avante guarde! The DEFINITION of "not for everybody". If you are a unique and adventuresome type who appreciates the odd and wonderful/personal, this is a must stay. If you wear a bow tie, get nervous around anything out of the ordinary, and your mom still cuts up your food for you; Motel 6's were made for you; Tom will keep the light on for you....

Great host! Comfortable room and loved the property inside and out. Loved the victorian room and shower pressure was great! The peacocks were so majestic. Loved walking around the property and just enjoying a break from the city life...literally 30 miles away from a gas station so fuel up. Host was so kind and generous and i would recommend all to stay at any of his properties.

I had a wonderful and comfortable stay here at this quaint B&B while visiting Death Valley and surrounding areas! The hosts are the sweetest people you'll ever meet and I felt very welcomed. Loved the themed, tasteful choice in room decor. I stayed in the Victorian room. I had a lovely breakfast in the morning. There are beautiful peacocks surrounding the property. What more could you ask for? I will definitely stay again if I'm in the area. If you're going for a unique experience coupled with stellar hospitality, this is it!

Jennifer & Nigel were so sweet & accommodating! We stayed in the cabin for our first 2 nights & the Paradise Room for our 3rd...we would recommend both. The cabin is super private, very roomy with beautiful views. The Paradise Room is really great too, nostalgic heart shaped tub with a genuine Bed & Breakfast feel to it. Food was great and hosts set us on perfect paths for our day outings! We highly recommend staying here & plan to revisit again in the near future.
