We have adopted two cats from a nearby place for our store in David City. One of them was a remarkable store cat named Kitty Purry, who lived up to 18 years. Although she was already old when we took her in, she had a wonderful time with us. We also recently welcomed Tilly to our family, who had a challenging start but is now thriving and enjoying life to the fullest. The staff at the adoption center were easy to work with. We always advocate for adoption over buying, as many animals are in need of loving homes.

13 years ago we were heartbroken from the loss of our beloved dog Monroe. We knew we could not replace her, but wanted to open our home to another fur baby. From the first time I saw Bella, I knew she would be my best buddy. We had been told by her foster mom that she had been returned three times and we couldn’t understand why, she was perfect! My family adopted her right away! For the last thirteen years she has had a wonderful life and and was spoiled like a princess. This week she finally said goodbye to us and crossed the rainbow bridge. My heart is filled with love and sadness, but mostly I am grateful for the time we had together.Thanks you.

We adopted a dachshund several years ago from this sweet place, just recently we adopted another absolute loving 9-month-old dog and can't say how elated we are witheverything that York adopt a pet has done for us!! Kim is amazing, she has so much knowledge and wisdom and will not put these animals up for adoption unless she is sure she has the right home as well as knowledge about them!! This is the one place I will always rescue an animal from, I've been to Omaha and will never go there again, thank you for all and more you've done to make our lives so much happier, we absolutely love our furever companion!!

We went to this shelter after my Dad passed away, to find my Mother a companion. This place had quite the selection. All the animals are well cared for and loved by the staff. Would highly recommend!!

We had seen the picture of the German Shepherd (“Roman”) that had been abandoned. We could see by the pictures that he was stressed to be in the shelter, which his description had indicated he was indeed stressed. We have owned GSD’s in the past (that have passed from old age) and currently own one now. We understand that this breed of dog is not for everyone. We thought we could give Roman the life he deserves. He would be loved and would not be chained or caged.My husband called York-Adopt-A-Pet and was told he needed to call another person concerning this dog. He called twice and left a message. NO RESPONSE! I guess they really aren’t that interested to find homes for their animals! If this dog had been adopted, a return phone call would’ve been the professional thing to do.

Wonderful experience. Staff is so amazing & excited for the new adopting family. You are allowed time with your new furbaby, prior to adoption, to make sure it's a good fit for both your family & the furbaby. Adoption is a wonderful thing to do for both yourself & the sweet loveable furbaby!
