Traveling for work, I’m usually in a different hotel room every night. It’s not very often I come across a gem like this place! The staff are wonderful. The rooms are amazing. Some of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on. And the value can’t be beat! I’ve had the opportunity to stay on two different occasions, and will stay again the next time I come through town!

Brought the wife and kids for a little get away to Lake McConaughey a few months ago and I forgot to write up a review of how excellent this stay was! It was a little home away from home for all of us! The kids enjoyed their room, while the wife and I got to get away and loved ours! The service was excellent and the staff instantly made us feel safe and at home. I can't recommend this place enough for a family or even a large group of your friends. Thank You Shady Rest!

Brought my family on a summer vacation to Lake Mac. Was dissatisfied by the places to stay closer to the lake. Somehow I came across this place. I couldn't be happier! This is now my go-to place. Check-in process was smooth. Rooms were very nice and clean, and the staff couldn't have been better, particularly Kelly. She was super friendly and was responsive to any questions we had. We felt like we were staying with family, not just another customer.

Our family LOVES this little motel. This has forever changed our route to visiting family, as we will always be going through Oshkosh and making a stop here. We came by late and received great service, quiet and CLEAN rooms, a soft bed with clean linens, cable TV, a great bathroom, and it was even just up the road from the local bar/restaurant, The Chubby Rhino. I cannot tout their praises enough!

Generally expect less than stellar accommodations when going to a small town, especially when prices are as affordable as this was, so I pleasantly surprised to be wrong this time! Room was all about comfort and so clean!!! I'll be back definitely!Rooms: Pet friendly and yet clean enough that my dog didn't spend any time sniffing around. NICE!

Rooms were clean, warm, and adequately stocked. It wasn’t the Hilton but was outstanding none the less. Jenny, the owner/operator, is awesome and took care of things while we all endured a 12-in snowstorm. It is a simple place but don’t let outside fool you. I recommend the Shady Rest. The downsides… Oshkosh is limited on places to eat especially if meals are needed at odd hours. People of the town were warm and friendly for the most part. We only ran into one grouch during our stay!

We have stayed in many motels during our road trip, and this one was by far the best one we’ve ever stayed at. It has such a great atmosphere, it was like staying at a family house. The rooms are big and extraordinary clean, all furniture and everything in the room looks new and taken care of. I am truly surprised this place has such an affordable price, it’s comparable to $160+/night hotel rooms we’ve stayed at in the past. It is really a hidden gem! As a huge plus, they also have a dog living on the premises, and they allow dogs in the rooms. Even with dogs and lots of hunters staying here with their hunting gear, they manage to keep the carpets super clean, the carpet literally looked new or at least freshly cleaned in our room. Maggie (the manager) is the sweetest person ever, it was such a pleasure dealing with her! I can honestly go on and on about how great this place is. I’ve never seen such a high quality motel, HIGHLY recommend!

Night 1 of a weeklong motorcycle vacation found this place. Very friendly ownership, impeccably clean rooms, great decor, perfect location on highway and within a short walk of groceries/dining. All at a great price. Enjoyed it so much, I told the owner to expect me back on my final vacation overnight five days later. I love riding through the Nebraska panhandle, and this has become my choice for lodging when doing so. EDIT: New owners, same GREAT place a year later!

Ultra clean rooms and comfortable stay. The showers were super clean and walk in with good water pressure. The motel was updated within the last 10 years or so, for it was not how I remembered it looking when I was younger and living in the town. Maggie and her "guard dog" are extremely pleasant to be around and they make the mornings that much better, seeing them out and about checking on rooms. They make you feel like you are at home and part of the family. Will for sure stay there again when back for a visit and recommend others to stay here as well.

We stayed at the motel for a night. Maggie was extremely helpful answering all my questions about what to do and where to eat in town. The room was spacious, functional and clean, and the price was very reasonable. The laundry room was an extra convenience. For Oshkosh, we couldn't have asked for a better host than Maggie nor a better place to stay than Shady Rest!

WOW! This place is soooo unexpected. Mothers bring your toddlers and let them crawl on the floor to your hearts content.This place is so clean it reminds me of the room in grandma’s house that was always spotless but no one could ever use. We all feel like we are the first to stay in a room after a remodel.Maggie is such a wonderful person too. She says she is not the owner but she sure treats you like she wants you back soon.I have workers staying in several of the rooms and each and every person feels the same about their space.They even have a triple-bed room I am utilizing.Actually glad the work brought us out this way.

We have been traveling across country. Been a very long trip and we're in thr home stretch now. It was too cold to sleep in the truck, so we took a chance on this tiny little place. Thank goodness we did!!!!!! The bed was comfy, the cleanliness is by far the BEST we have had!!!!!!! Ample shampoo and conditioner for a good hit shower, and the coffee packs was FOLGERS!!!!!!! for the first time coming across I had a cup of home! If I ever come back this way I will be looking for this place again! They even had dog towels! I can't say enough good things about this place!!!!

Very welcoming and friendly staff and room was very clean. Nice showers, new looking bathroom/sink. Flat screen TV, carpet and fixtures appear to be recent renovations, larger size mini fridge, nice microwave. Totally blown away at how nice this place is for such a low nightly rate, highly recommend.

Easy to find, very polite, spacious rooms, very clean! Everything looked brand new! Each room is decorated with a theme, mine was John Deere tractors, which tickled me to no end 😀 on site laundry, ice and small vending machine, they even have a handful of board games available. I would highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area, if I ever come back through, I'll definitely be staying here again. In room amenities include a refrigerator, a coffee maker, microwave, lots of towels, which are folded very cutely and evident that someone went the extra mile to make you feel welcomed.

The owner was a sweetheart. Placed me in a room where there was easy access to the ice machine and vending machine. Had me take a room that wasn't in the middle of hunters rooms so I had a better tparking spot and wouldn't be woken up by them leaving so early. The room was nice, updated, clean and clean smelling. She gave me the room normally for handicap. This would be a very comfortable place for someone with challenging mobility. There is a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. There was also a nice touch for hunters to clean their gun, or those needing a not so nice towel for some purpose as they provided one in the room just for that. I've never seen that before.
