This is an adorable little store filled with baking goods, snacks, homemade baked goods, books and other items. If you're looking for any kind of herbs and spices, there's a good chance The General Store has it, including whole nutmeg, which I can't find anywhere! Over the years I have had a lot of their baked goods, and all of them are delicious, especially their cinnamon rolls. They also sell a lot of locally sourced produce and meat.The General Store is immaculate, and it is a beautiful, tastefully decorated and welcoming store. Inside, there's also a small coffee shop that uses locally roasted coffee beans. I'm sipping on the bear Americano I have ever had as I write this, which is perfectly robust but minimally bitter. Definitely stop on for a visit!

Wife and went there to get spices. They have allot and they are not over priced.staff friendly and will help you find anything you need. They have very good bread and rolls. Will go back often.

This place is not to miss. Before you hit your chain grocer, stop here. From assorted gifts, baked goods, produce, tea, you are sure to find something you can't live without. Did I mention the lovely staff? I make a point to visit every time I am near!

This is a fabulous find! Small general store with a great coffeehouse and wonderful Mennonite baked goods (if you aren't aware, these ladies are great bakers). Every type of flour and spices you can't find elsewhere. Some of our relatives travel here to get the finely ground rye flour. Wonderful selection of gifts and books, not to mention handmade doll clothes (wish there were more hand sewn products). And, probably the neatest, cleanest store I've ever been in. I could spend hours here looking around and having coffee on the porch in the huge handmade rockers!

I love this store. I buy almost all my spices here... they're far cheaper than any grocery store in the area. They have a great candy section, a huge variety of flours, rice and pasta, and a decent gluten free selection. They carry a variety of nuts and cheeses and mixes... and breads, baked fresh every Thursday. And I haven't even begun to cover their books, and their gift section and their sewing supplies and their amazing wind chimes... you have to see it for yourself!

Such a unique place. Lots of hand made items from embroidered flour sack towels (which we all love), to jams, tortillas and cinnamon rolls. Look around twice so you don't miss a great find.

Worth a stop if you are traveling through this part of Nebraska! This general store has a wide variety of quality items for your home, all members of your family, unique gifts, and wonderful home grown and baked items in the freezer and refrigerator. We also enjoyed the Rhubarb Lemonade (seasonal) and the friendly owner and staff. What a gem!

What a treasure in Madrid! Thursday is baking day and it shouldn't be missed. The whole family spent a good time looking around and we had a few things to buy besides the horn rolls and some wonderful cherry cinnamon rolls. The workers were very pleasant and we had a good small town Nebraska talk. The bakery prices are more than fair when you taste how good everything is!

Absolutely Love this place. Just like an old time general store with a little bit of everything. Toys, books, sewing supplies, baking needs as well as homemade items ready to eat, garden vegetables, spices, local honey, meats and cheeses, housewares and a snack bar with smoothies and home baked goodies. Can't wait to go back, it's our favorite place!
