I lost my beautiful pit bull/ blue heeler last year in September. Did numerous meet and greets with Kenzo , the staff was so patience and understanding about making sure he was right fit for me and my 3 year old daughter. I’m so blessed to have an amazing dog and a healthy dog! Worth adopting at Heartland Pet Connection.

We get all our pets from here ***Adoption fees are approximately $120 (expect to spend about $160 After all their fees, taxes, etc.) By law pets have to be spayed and neutered so you adopt them that way which is a nice benefit! They also treat the animals with Revolution for fleas, and make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations. The only thing you'll need to get is their Rabies shot depending on the age I'm assuming not sure if they provide that after so long being there or age? When you get the Rabies shot just show them a copy and you'll get $25 back which is nice. Also, if you want them declawed you'll have to do that yourself and you'll have to keep up their vaccinations and flea treatments as well. ***If you have OTHER PETS, AND OR CHILDREN, you'll have to bring them in for a meet and greet before you can adopt them and take them home to make sure they're a good match. I would call and set up a time for this before showing up with your pets. I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST RESEARCHING THE PET YOU'RE WANTING SO YOU'LL KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU TAKE THEM HOME!!! Please do not just buy your children pets for the holidays, treat them like your children, you can't return them just because you don't like the things they do, or they didn't turn out like you expected :-) Redirect and hope they grow out of this phase! ***As far as the staff goes, I wish they were a little bit more friendly, and customer service oriented. We stood in front of the cat room for quite some time, before they let us know what we could do or how to go about seeing the animals. Your average time there will be about an hour.

Asked if certain pet have on Sunday & Monday. Told yes. Called Monday afternoon to meet & no pet asked about. This is a place outright lied to me. Never look here again for pet. Lost my business. Pet was also listed available even Monday. Don't donate to this place or look for pet.

Sasha took to her new permanent home immediately. Here she is doing a squirrel census. A really lovely shelter dog and so lucky to have her now as ours.

I would rate 5 star if this shelter was a no kill shelter. This place also needs a remodel the dog shelter part is terrible they also don’t have air conditioning in the dog part every time I’ve gone to this place that have massive fans to circulate the air the problem with that is it’s circulating hot humid air! It also smells horrible and the dogs have very little space to move around I highly suggest that they build a newer updated place for the dogs! The cat housing is also very small with very little space for the cats to move around very sad place!!

Every interaction I have had with this place has been nasty. The employees have no sense of professionalism. My husky got out of the house and it’s $50 just for them to pick her up. After that, it’s however much per night even though we were not even informed they had our dog! For 4 nights it came close to $150 when we were only told where she was today! Heartland has no compassion for the people or their fluffy family, plus are totally unfair to certain breeds. My childhood pit bull, the sweetest girl you could have ever met, was put down by this place simply because of her breed. I try my hardest to never cross paths with this business-that’s all it is to them, a business.

They don’t seem like they want dogs to be adopted. They won’t let you interest with the animal when you go in to look at one. It would probably be easier to adopt a kid than it is to get an animal from here.

I've adopted 2 of my pets from here. They were both rescues and the staff there gave me the whole back story of how they were rescued. They have a cool little shop inside. Seemed a little under staffed but were all around a great experience and I'd highly recommend adopting your next fur baby here

Great pet shelter! Adopted our cat from here and he’s been healthy and a great addition to our family! Jenny does a great job running the place and it’s kept very clean.

I would have rated them a zero if possible. The staff don't really seem to care about animals -- as they send a good portion of them off to be euthanized every week. The animals that do survive the cut often just sit in their kennels without any human contact. Once, a blind, diabetic dog ended up there after running away from home... And it sat in a kennel without food or water for many many hours. Truly heartless, greedy people.

A great place to get your next pet. The staff is kind and caring. This is a public shelter and the animals get brought in when they are found in the city so they are a kill shelter so I would suggest if you're looking for a pet to check here first..

Not a big fan of this place only due to the fact that my dog is an escape artist and everytime they tack on an extra $20. Hope it at least goes to saving the animals and not putting them down

My name is Jim Yeggy , not Matt. The Heartlannd Pet Connection (NLPC) provides a great dog rescue service and has great folks. I adopted 2 dogs from them in March 2016. A 7 year old German Shorthair Pointer female and 3 weeks later her 4 year old son. These folks put a lot of $$ into saving these two dogs, which came to them in November 2015. They were suffering from neglect and had significant health problems when HLPC. Maggie required dental surgery and an infected, open wound that required surgery. Saul came in with eye infections in both eyes which required surgery and open infected wounds that were treated without surgery. These dogs were kept in kennels but allowed two 30 minute exercise periods each day in an open run area. The dogs were well socialized and received good human contact from the HLPC staff, which were all great with the dogs. They worked with them on basic commands and disipline. HLPC interviewed me and made sure I was a good fit for these dogs before they allowed me to take them. Maggie & Saul are great companions for me and my family. No way HLPC made any $$ on these dogs. The medical costs they put into them was much more than adoption fees.

It is a very well run shelter. It's clean and the staff are friendly. They do a really good job of matching animals to potential forever homes.

Had a friend that was trying to get rid of a dog called this place and they told me we should just put her down wouldn’t recommend giving your animals to this rescue center.
