They would not let me adopt a dog I bonded with. He was available for adoption. But I was not allowed to adopt him even though I had the fee. They refuse to give a reason why others. Then I wrote pomsky on a page they gave me . I feel judged a d persecuted . I am going to contact the director of the Central Nebraska humane societies board of trustees end. I'm also going to contact the United States humane society organization directly. If you can't abide by your own rules, then you shouldn't be doing that job. Read the other reviews on this page and see the evidence of her bias. Thank you

I will never set foot in this place ever again, I had the worst experience here today. I went yesterday (Wednesday) to look for a kitten, I currently have a rescue cat and felt it was time we got her a sister. I was told they don't do adoptions on Wednesdays which was OK because they also told me they needed a current rabies vaccine for my kitty. So I made an appointment to get my cats rabies booster done today. I went out to visit with the kitten before my cats appointment to make sure we had a good bond, my boyfriend accompanied me and we both fell in love. We visited and played for like an hour, then it was time for our vet visit so we informed the worker we were going straight home to get our cat, take her to the vet, and then come straight back. We did just that, we weren't gone for an hour and when we got back they had the kitten in the visiting room with other people. I went to the desk and told the lady working that we were back for the kitten that was in the visiting room. The lady was so rude and cocky and told us that since we left it was first come first serve and said she could let us visit another animal and if the other people didn't adopt the cat we could. I was so irritated I told her I didn't want to visit another animal. 2 days planning for this kitten and in 1 hour they let someone else take it when they knew I was coming back for her. No morals in this place. My boyfriend and I took today off for this and it truly ruined my day. I left and drove to kearney animal shelter and found a kitty we love. Staff at central nebraska humane society are rude and just ready to auction off animals to the fastest bidder. Negative stars.

I adopted an adult cat from them and he is the sweetest boy in the world. They were so helpful from start to finish during the adoption process and are always open to answering any questions I have.

Staff is unnecessary rude, not only in person but on their social media sites. Terrible organization, consider start over rover or voice for companion animals.

Staff obliviously do not do their homework with the dogs cause the dog we adopted was not good with high energy dogs. She became aggressive and wanted to fight. We did not get a refund even though we only had her a day and a half. Very miss represented by staff. They need training to evaluate the animals. Very bad experience. Wont adopt there ever again

I reported a neglected dog and they did nothing. I wish I could leave no stars. They just don't care

If I could give a negative star rather than a one star I would. My mom lost her two fur babies from Dannebrog on March 12th as of whom she loved immensely and immediately registered them as missing to Central Nebraska Humane Society and other locations in hopes that they would help return them home if found. She has been stressed out to the max since while searching endlessly as they were apart of our family. Recently, a dog that looked just like one of them was listed. Mom didn't recieve any call or indication that they had this dog that looked identical to one of her missing pups and she was adopted out to a new owner. She tried reaching out on their post on facebook and they blocked her from commenting any further. Truly disappointing and right before the holidays! I just want to say thanks for making my mom bawl her eyes out, lose sleep and throw up from the stress of the loss of her babies all over again! What a WONDERFUL way to celebrate the 4th!!!! Im truly disgusted and i hope nobody else ever has to EVER witness this or personally go through it. So very tragic & heartbreaking.

Went in to possibly adopt the dog today and they said sorry. The kennels are closed, We can't have you walked through..... How is anybody gonna adopt these dogs? If you can't go in and see their personalities.

Me and my gf recently adopted an 8 yr old dachsund from this place. From the first phone call all the way to the end of the adoption these folks were kind curtious and deffinately cared about the animals. We originally came in to look at her and spent the manditory 30 mins with her even tho we could tell at first sight that this lil girl was the perfect addition to our family. Then we had to do the meet and greet with my current dog. He is a 12 yr old dachshund and came from a shelter himself. Whenever we take him to the vet or one of these institutions he is kind of sketchy cant blame him. The handlers did very well and even tho the dogs didnt get along great the asked us if we would like to do a second meet and greet. So we scheduled one for 2 days later just hoping and praying that she would still be there. When we went back the 2nd meet and greet with the dogs went well and we were able to adopt. Deffinatley would deal with this place again and all of the staff there were A+++

Ran by those who have love for animals. Yet not very clean, one guy had his hand next to kennel and not in it and was yelled at about putting his hand in, in from of everyone.Pee all over .No black or white just there piece of paper or applications. Setting it up to be based on lies. I was very rude due to the lack of effort of bring a professional out to explain or understand .While there one dog who was marked as good with kids and all animals bit another dog. Then a customer had walked a dog and was bit in the face.Lots of animal lovers very little trained professionals, and if we kennel a dog for a long time we will begin to change their attitude.Meet and greet will not help because one minute it may work and when getting them into the new environment they may change increasing a chance of attitude changing etc.The manager did well protecting her employees and deciding to sell a dog to the person with me but it would have helped if we would have just brought the manager out at the beginning .I have worked with small and large animals my whole life and my heart hurt for what I seen.Like the animal with the star rating of getting along with all animals bit and can’t be sold now for ten days . I would have taken him. They won’t be perfect they have been abandoned and a meet and greet doesn’t do anything but make first impression good. These are animals and sometimes owners of looking at them need to realize that these animals have been thru a lot.And will not be perfect rather meet or greet or not .Did like a couple of the volunteers and the manager made the right decision yet could have made it better at the beginning but coming out and talking to us at the beginningHearts in the right place

We will never donate or adopt from this place again, I feel bad for the animals. We went in there to get a dog and spent over an hour with it and were told we could have this dog in the morning. The staff that night was great and very friendly, they could tell we had bounded with the dog. We went and got all the necessary items for the dog and where there right away in the morning. We were very rudely "greeted" by a lady behind the desk. She made us sit in a room that just reeked of pee for at least 30 mins. Came in and told us we could not have the dog, and was VERY VERY disgustingly rude and wouldn't listen to us. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone! We are not the only ones who have had problems! I recommend Start over rover they are great, we love our dog we got from them and they have treated us with the utmost respect.

So me and my dad have been looking at this beautiful dog for two weeks. She wasn’t available because she had surgery. When we came back on Monday, they said she wasn’t available because she ripped her stitches open so she was in a cone. We were going to get the dog once she was ready. My dad went in this morning, as soon as they opened. She was gone! He got upset and asked how she could possibly be gone, he asked yesterday when she would be available and they said in 4 days. She was gone today! My dad filled out an application yesterday to get it out of the way, so my dad thinks they tell their friends that someone is going to take the dog, so we don’t get it. One star. Never going back.

We called several times about a dog that has been abandoned in the neighborhood. They finally came out and where rude they didn't even bother to get out of their vehicle they decided to talk through a crack in the window. They argued with us about the concern of the dog not being properly taken care of. They would post a note on the door for the people that aren't even there and aren't planning on showing up they would be back in 24 hours. To do what probably write another note they didn't even get out of the vehicle to check the dog to see if it was licensed or just see if it did have water or food they were more concerned about making sure that the note was posted on the door. This facility needs to be overhauled staff don't seem to care about anything other than keeping cool. Someone should start a petition to shut this place down or to give them more Authority because they hide behind the laws that they can't do anything without the owner's permission. So they can't do anything then why are they needed? why do we need them then? I think this place should be shut down personally can't do your job. aren't working to change the laws you don't need to be around. find somewhere else to work. I will no longer support this facility my donations in spare change will continue to be in my pocket because they just don't give a damn about the welfare of animals.

We called 911 about a husky locked in a hot car at the south Walmart in over 90 degree weather for at least 20 minutes that we observed. They sent an animal control officer from the Humane Society. He was very cordial with the person who had the dog in the car but was very aggressive and dismissive to us that placed the call. We left feeling horrible despite calling them about a dog that was in danger.

Attempted to adopt two amazing cats today. Staff misconstrued our conversation to their manager who was unwilling and uninterested in discussing our adoption plan. Despite multiple efforts to tell the manager otherwise she refused to let us adopt. The reason being that a planned move once I graduate college will be too stressful. Any efforts to rationalize the situation were met with rudeness. As there is no holding policy, two cats will not have a happily prepared home that was ready and willing to accept them. I understand the basis for concern when placing an animal into a home, but rudeness and judgement should not take place in a business.

I recently got a cat from CNHS which was the only good thing to come from this experience. At adoption I was told neutering would be free of charge at any vet hospital verified and approved by them. Little did I know they would go back on this after I had already scheduled an appointment for the surgery, and chalk it up to a "mistake". After calling the CNHS to figure out the issue I was met with a rude manager who did not seem to care for the well-being of the animals under her control (I believe her name was Melissa). Naturally after the conversation I decided to never step foot in that organization again. I worry for all the animals that are currently sheltered because with a manager with such little care and devotion to them, they are bound to end up in either a bad home or be poorly treated at the shelter.All-in-all I would never recommend this place to anyone because I am fearful that the employees and the organization do not have the best interests of the animals at heart.

When a place makes you choose from photos on a screen which dog you want to see, and you can't go back and see the dogs, you know there's something they don't want you to see. Before I get into it I want to note that we brought out current dog along for this so she could do a meet and greet as well. We were initially told to put her in the car (IN THE CAR) in this cold weather. Ultimately we ended up having to leave her in a room with dried pee on the floor by herself. We have done this process before at NHS in Omaha, so I do have a point of comparisson. NHS is much busier and had a room she could wait in. Never once did NHS act like it was a hassle for her to be there. And never once did NHS suggest that we leave her in the car.The one we chose was "recovering from surgery" I guess (then why was his photo up if he's not available?).The second choice dog we had to meet in a room. He ended up being very defensive, bigger than expected, and growling at us. They offered to leave us alone with him or take him out to walk... This intimidating dog that is growling at us.If the dog isn't connecting I'm not going to force it. If we could actually go see the dogs we could make a much more informed decision about who we wanted to see instead of choosing based on a photo.Coming from Omaha, we got our current dog (who we are finding a friend for) at the Nebraska Humane Society. They are very clean, organized, and let you walk the whole facility to look at animals. We will go back there, 2.5 hours away, before we go back to CNHS.Sad for the dogs that don't get a chance because they don't let you go see them in person.

We found a dog there we loved. I called and ask if he was still there and the lady said yes. When we got there the dog was gone he got adopted hours before my call. The lady lied and told me he was there when he was not.

Found a cat I really loved and wanted to adopt but was denied to even go through the adoption process because I showed up 15 mins before closing time. I told them that I had come an hour out of town and was very interested in one cat specifically but was told very rudely well maybe you should have looked at our hours. Could they not have worked an extra few minutes to help a cat get a forever home?! No they were to concerned about getting them selves home instead.

Why are there fewer and fewer pets for adoption at CNHS? Obviously, there are not fewer animals needing rescued in a city of over 51,000 residents. I have to presume they are being euthanized. At one time this was the best shelter in the state, and was managed by a true animal advocate. Since her departure, much has changed, and not for the better. Very sad for our community and all the animals who need help.

Called about a deceased black cat and was told animal control cannot pick up deceased animals on private property but I told the lady on the phone who I believe name is bree, that it was not on private property. The cat was basically in the street. All I got from bree was “ok thank you” no explanation on whether or not animal control would come out. She sounded like she couldn’t care less.

All the staff are great you can tell they really love all the animals. They always have a few up front to meet and greet. All the cages are always clean no orders. And they even train the dogs to sit stay come so they are made to be a great pet for you and family

I got my sweet doggy Luna from here a few years ago (she's my profile picture) and the staff was kind, caring, and very enthusiastic. I don't really know what all the bad reviews are about. Maybe those people weren't having a good day or something.

Adopted a dog from them and was lied to about him being good with cats. He was constiently nipping at me and my husband. And chasing the cat around and biting her. We tired to explain the sistuation to a front desk person and ask for a refund. Instead of listing to us, and treating us with respect she over reacted and got very mad at us. We won’t be a getting any animal from here again.

I walked in CNHS and asked to see the dogs and I was directed to a tv screen that had pics of all the animals. I asked the worker if I could see the same animals at home on my PC and she stated that I could. I would like to interact with the dogs and not a TV screen. The workers there were not very sociable either. CNHS has alot of work to do to get accepted by the community again.

I was going to name CNHS as primary beneficiary of my IRA, but after talking to them and them lying to me about euthanizing dogs (they said they NEVER did, but they do), and the rude treatment I got from their customer service staff, I will give my money to a more deserving nonprofit. I feel sorry for the animals there.

Who is running this place now?? 🤬 2 yrs ago I had nothing but 5 star reviews but not even 1 Star now! 12 Dogs Available for Adoption! I bragged for years prior of all the dogs up for Adoption, sometimes up to 32. I no longer post anything positive on the GI humane Society! Change needs to happen!!!!!!!!
