It's an absolutely beautiful place to stay. So relaxing and peaceful you couldn't ask for a better place to spend a vacation! We've been here five times now and it never disappoints. Tons of hiking trails to explore, lots of history to enjoy from the two museums on the Fort. And of course being able to stay in the original brick homes is always a joy! (And spooky but just adds to fun this place gives)If you've never visited it's to me the best State Park in Nebraska hands down.

Very interesting place. But the state of Nebraska has turned it into a resort destination, where they rent out rooms to families in for large gatherings, rather than capitalize on the opportunity to show the historical importance of Fort Robinson. They missed a real opportunity here, I think, to do interpretive displays on the Indian wars the dominated this region. And those they show the software Crazy Horse was murdered they say very little about how or why that happened.

Excellent! Take enough money, you'll need a park permit if you don't have one, and some cash for the stage coach ride (which I highly recommend, it was so much fun)!!!

Wonderful place to stop coming out of the mountains on our road trip. The museums are great! We went to the Crazy Horse Monument last year, so I was excited to pick this spot because he was stabbed in the back here. The history is well displayed here. Over many years many different events happened at this fort, the knowledge is great.

State park with full hookups! Staff pointed out sites with mature trees for us. Quiet, though full. The history piece makes the stay all the better. Nice scenic drives in the area (dirt roads, don't bring your Lexus), especially the Sowbelly loop, offered wildlife, hikes and geo-tourism. Stayed 3 nights, toured the grounds and both museums.

Although the park’s buildings were closed, the campgrounds, trails, and fishing ponds were open. You can walk around the buildings and look at the horses and longhorn cattle. There’s also folks at the ‘INFORMATION BOOTH’ that can answer and help with any questions you might have. The weekend left, NE was just allowing the use of the non-camping facilities for weekend stays.Downside. IF you have an RV, coming from the east and are planning on camping DO NOT follow GOOGLE to the center of ‘Fort Robinson’. You will enjoy a pleasant dirt road trip looking at pronghorn, cattle and horses until you find the first road you can turn around at. There should be a little bit better signage for campers and isn’t. Secondly, you may come across some issues with power. The underground resident rodents have been wrecking havoc on the power cables. We were told there are plans to correct power issues sometime soon. Also, it would be nice to see a ‘map’ that describes the historical significance of the park’s buildings. Something that describes what they were before the park’s creation. Finally, because of COVID, we were not able to visit the inside facilities.Upside, the park is a great place to visit. Lots to do within 2 hours of the park should you be adventurous. Those trips could include AGATE NM, TOADSTOOL, and lots of adventure on dirt roads. Crawford is a nice little town and has the basic facilities for campers. IF need be, you can drive to Chadron. The lakes are beautiful. The ‘Old Smiley Scenic Drive’ can be a lot of fun. We were able to see burros, buffalo, and pronghorn. If possible, drive all the roads around the park. Most may be dirt, but you really get to see how people miss by just traveling I80. The country is beautiful. We look forward to going back and would really like to make it a family reunion. By that time, hopefully all of the activities mentioned on the park’s website.

This has some great history, it is an awesome place to hold a family reunion or just go camping. Lots to see and do. It isn't that far south of the Black Hills area of South Dakota, it is off the beaten path but worth the time to see. Most of the activities don't open until Memorial Day and only run until Labor Day, but camping sites were open early. We loved it.

Nice historic campsite. Clean and well groomed. They offer lie to do including onsite swimming. Everything costs money but it's adorable and used, likely, to upkeep of the grounds. Lots of history on the grounds. Tons of cottonwood trees so allergy sufferers beware, bring your allergy pills.

Beautiful place! Was visiting on my way to Wyoming and stop by the museum to pick up some gifts. The actual museum is small but has everything you need.

Nice museum with an overview of the history of the fort and how the land was used from the early 1800s up through WWII. The museum has some cool artifacts but a little more context on the history of the area would be helpful. The museum has a video upon entering with a brief overview and a nice gift shop.

Limited resources in the office. The lady's staffing the office were very busy taking care of local land owner tax issues and issuing hunting papers to hunters. Not much time was available to assist actual visitors to the Fort wanting information or to purchase items. I waited over 35 minutes while the two members on staff took care of 2 local people with their licenses and taxes. A somewhat slow process on a very hot day. State processes should not be done here!

Many fine reviews to be found here. Mine will speak of Tasunke Witko (Crazy Horse). He rode in with his surviving people to surrender at Fort Robinson in 1877 about 4 months before he was killed here the first week of September. As one of his boyhood visions decades earlier had warned of, he was held by his own people as the bayonet fixed to a soldier's rifle pierced both kidneys. He passed away around midnight the same day in the Adjutant's Office, laying on the floor with his cousin Touch the Clouds as well as his father Worm in attendance (the small building is no longer standing though the foundation remains). Whispers, rumors, unfounded gossiping, innuendo, and jealousies led to the murder of this great man who gave his life for his country. It's history that can still be felt at this place. My attached photograph is of the nearby buttes.

Go there. It's an important historic site. Tasunke Witko was a great leader.
