Giving a one star review because I have been trying to re-home my coonhound as he and our other dog stopped getting along about 2 years ago. After many attempts to correct the behavior it is time to surrender him however hearts united claimed they had no room and to wait a few weeks. After waiting I called back and was told the same that they didn't have any room. When pressed they admitted to having room for stray dogs but were unwilling to take my surrender. Absolutely blown away that a animal rescue is so unwilling to help an animal in need, extremely disappointed in them.

I lost my 13 year old boy at the beginning of the year to a terrible disease. I was finally ready to venture out and look for a new doggy to love on at home! I looked at multiple different humane society’s and unfortunately chose HUA to submit my application to.Upon completing my application, I didn’t hear back from anyone for over a week, finally reached out via phone and they were confused why I never received an email from the adoption committee. A few hours go by, and I’m now all of a sudden “not eligible” to adopt a dog because I have a toddler at home?? HUH?!?you’re telling me that the PUPPY I was interested in may not get along with children? But yet, that puppy MIGHT and you never gave my family that chance. If these are your super strict guidelines, maybe you should have had them listed on your website to read before starting the application.I had my hopes up to have another 4 legged friend running around my home again, so I’m highly disappointed in the lack of communication on your end.I also read through the individual descriptions of the dogs I had on my application, and not a single one stated “not comfortable around toddlers” which is why I chose to view those specific animals.

HUA is truly a fantastic place! Eight years ago I adopted my black lab Bower. Yes, their adoption process is detailed, but that’s because their concern is for their furry charges. They know they have a duty of care, and care they do. They also have a great “Buddy Program” whereby you can sponsor a dog or cat and help with their care. It’s a great way to be involved with helping dogs and cats have better lives as they await their forever homes.

This place is non-profit they have over 200 Dog's and cats up for adoption. They offer low cost spading and neutering along with other services, and the staff is excellent and will answer all your questions to the best of their abilities.

We were looking for a sweet dog to give love to and to entertain our hyper boxer male. We found a few to meet and required an application first. Upon the completion we had to schedule a home interview via FaceTime. All went well so we drove down to check out the facility. This place is huge!!! So many places for pets to stay until adopted that are clean and well maintained. Their dedication to adopting/rescuing pets sees no limitations! Christy assisted us in finding our perfect girl Boo. We opted to wait 2 weeks to adopt her to make sure she was healed from her spay and claw surgery along with receiving a clean Bill of health. The day of adoption was perfect! We were greeted, given all the proper paperwork, photos taken, and adoption pledge given. We love this facility and will definitely look there again if we ever need another pet. (Note - cute picture of Boo attached for cuteness overload).

They were very welcoming and accommodating to our wants as pet-owners and they did a great job pairing us up with a lovable little boy who will fit right in with our other two dogs. We're looking very forward to enjoying life with him.You can tell that they care about the dogs they bring into the shelter, and they want to do what's best not just for potential adopters, but the dogs as well, and that's what's most important. Thanks for everything you guys do and for helping to give these little guys a second chance at life!

Great experience. Left my 3 cats to get spayed and they were ready when we got back 5 hours later. Incisions look clean and they took care to ensure the right pets went to the right people. The staff were friendly and answered any questions we had and they did complimentary nail trimming.

We filled out an application online and did not receive the confirmation email that they received it. When we called the next day to follow up the lady was sooooo rude and condescending. Refused to check on it. Took our number but never called back. We are so disappointed. We had a dog picked out from their website and everything.

They have a great facility with many acres of property for the dogs. Dogs have an indoor kennel area and an outdoor run area. We also saw two dogs running and playing in a very large area. We suspect the dogs switch off getting to play out there. The staff was professional and very honest with us about the dogs we looked at while there. They did a thorough check of us with our vet and a video tour of our home and yard and checked on us about a week after we took Kayley home. They sent us home with food she had been eating and a heart worm med to continue until we could get our own. They supplied us with vet records and what back ground they had on her. I would adopt from them again and have recommended to others.

I cannot say enough good things about this rescue. Yes, they are particular about where their animals are adopted but there's a reason for that. They care about the animals lives and want the best for them. I was lucky enough to adopt a beautiful, sweet, scared dog from them. My dog came from a horrible "puppy mill" situation where he was definitely abused. He is responding well to love and kindness.

I had a great experience with Hearts United for Animals. they definitely treat their animals well, and the people are great too! they're honest with you about the dogs and don't try to pressure you into a bad match. they were very patient and kind and spent plenty of time with us to make sure we found a good fit. I would definitely recommend adopting through HUA, and they are more than deserving of donations. they really take the time needed with all their animals and the people working/volunteering there are truly top notch.

My husband and I love this facility. We have adopted 7 dogs from them and will continue to adopt and donate to them in the future. I love that they have strict rules for adoption. Keep up the amazing work HUA, there should be more rescues like your's.

They steal animals, we’ve lost 2 dogs and 8 cats over the last 8 years. We live 5 miles from this business and we can hear them slowly driving around at night near our property and many others. When we walk in and ask to see their animals they immediately state “we don’t steal animals” before we even bring it up. Won’t even show us what animals they do have for adoption without an appointment and a specific age gender and breed. Over a dozen of other family’s have described similar circumstances. These people are obviously liars and terrible people.

My husband and I are currently looking for another dog to gave a loving home with a very spacious yard to. We were denied due to not having a fenced in yard. We supervise all past and present pets when they are outside playing or going to the bathroom. I thought shelter were wanting people to "adopt and not shop" but how can potential adopters adopt when shelters won't give them the time of day. Not to mention that they don't answer your questions directly. When I asked if we were being denied for adoption, we were given a vague response that didn't even answer our question. Looks like they are the ones that are irresponsible when they can't answer questions better than a vague answer of "Unfortunately a lot of our dogs are flight risks". Don't they know that with a responsible dog owner and proper training there is no such thing as a flight risk.

was denied to even begin the adoption application because I don't have a fenced yard. apparently hearts United doesn't care about their animals. .I have half a block of property but they don't care. hearts United would rather people go to a puppy mill than adopt from them. 3 months later and the dog still hasn't been adopted. is it really fair to leave a dog in a cage in a building instead of adopting him to a family with two other loving pets and a huge open yard but they don't have a fence?

Tried to adopt from this place awhile ago. I’m an RN in graduate school and was denied because I lived at home for the next year finishing grad school. The reason I was denied was because I was not the home owner. Excuse me, but what? Keep in mind my house is a 5 bedroom, 1,700 sq ft home with an extremely large fenced in backyard and a combined 6 figure income. Not to mention, my mother is a chairperson FOR A DOG RESCUE. I only wanted to adopt from here because they had the breed I was looking for. We had always raised Golden Retrievers and I was looking to get a GSD, however, was denied. My mother then applied later that week and was approved. We went to look at the facility and there were no dogs outside playing, but we’re locked in their cages and only one attendant. Ironic because this contradicts many of their “policies.” We weren’t a fan of the dog we went and looked at, she was extremely antisocial and did not want anything to do with strangers. They had another dog I was interested in but never responded to our request to view her. Absolute shame. I ended up adopting from a different rescue. This place only cares about getting income from their “Buddies” program and clearly don’t care about their dogs. It’s fairly obvious they have little interest in adopting out the dogs because that would cost them money. I’d advise you to look elsewhere.

Took my cat to get spayed, shots, check for feline illnesses - all for $40! The people were so kind, facility was clean. They have exceptional facilities for boarding dogs. I was very impressed & even more thankful for their kindness! Highly recommended for low-cost spay/neuter services - but call in advance since they are very busy!

Disappointed that so many of the reviews were 100% accurate. We are ideal pet owners and we also were denied due to not having a fenced yard. There are so many more important factors that need to be taken into account when placing an animal in a new furever home than a fence. Unfortunately, if you enjoy your personal property without the ugliness of a view blocking fence that complicates landscaping, don't bother completing the application. So sad that the fate of so many precious lives hinge on the presence of a fence.

Just wanted to say a few words of gratitude. The people of Hearts United are the most unselfish, caring, earth angels I have ever met. They always help those in need. I personally have been involved in transporting suffering dogs to them, and they met us at the door with warm smiles, hugs and the care needed for this huge group of suffering mill dogs. As well, they offer great service for lost cost spay and neutering, weekly. We have been to that clinic twice, and it is always clean and animals well cared for. Most importantly..in our time of need, with our precious Odie, they helped us find Vet care that we desperately needed. These guys walk the walk. They step up to help in every incidence.Every animal I have had met at this facility is happy and each get the time and care they need on their journey to finding a forever family..no matter how long it takes, nor distance needed! Thank you~ hearts United for Animals. We are forever in your debt.

We love the staff of volunteers at HUA. We adopted a loveable, adorable American Bulldog this year and he has immediately found his space within our family. His nick-name is Big-Boy because he’s all muscle. He loves walking several miles a day and hanging out on the deck with us, watching birds and squirrels to no end. We don’t know his past, but he sadly has a few older scars which makes us even more appreciative of all the good work HUA does to find good forever homes for those less fortunate animals. He is the sweetest dog ever! Thank you HUA!

I LOVE the fact that HUA has such strict standards for their adoption process. People who are giving bad reviews are too narrow sighted and biased in their opinions. I've adopted from HUA in the past and was more than impressed with how diligent they were in finding good homes. I'm willing to bet they see very little returns on their adoptions, vs too many other organizations who just want to see the animals go to any home. HUA, keep up the good work...no fence, no pet, no homeowner, no pet. I get it....I wish others did too.

My wife and I were denied for a completely different reason...we have a dog that is not spayed. Due to health reasons, we have not spayed our 3 yr old Chihuahua and because of that, we were denied. We were told we were part of the problem of overpopulation and we did not adhere to their ideology. What a joke.So here is what we offered to a dog that needs love and care for the rest of their days. We both are professionals and work out of the home. No 9 hours per day in a kennel. We have a fenced yard. We make 6 figures in income so we can afford pet healthcare. We loved our last rescue so much we had her cremated and a small shrine sits on our entertainment center. The dog we wanted would have been spayed and we have no intention of breeding our Chihuahua and as soon as the vet clears her for surgery, we will get it done. We live in a golf course community with no strays running around to get our dog pregnant. And, we love our dogs as much as our kids that are grown. But, because we didn't have both of our current dogs spayed, we were denied.SO, we purchased a puppy from a backyard breeder. Just what this agency and others in Omaha did NOT want to happen. Nice work UHA. Epic fail. I feel sorry for your dogs that lost a chance at a wonderful life.

Highly recommend if you are looking for a new furbaby! They are a rescue that takes in dogs and cats from all over the US. They have acres of buildings and a huge selection of beautiful friends to choose from...its hard to choose just one! They patiently care and vet all of their animals and charge a small fee to off set the care costs. Thank you, Hearts United, for all you do for these sweet souls!

This place is wonderful. They care that their animals are going to good homes and do their due diligence to make sure that happens. We got the best dog from them. He is so smart, knows his name, tricks and is house trained. Couldn’t have asked for a better adoption experience.

DO NOT take your pets to hearts United for animals. They gave back the cats still under anesthesia and hardly breathing! I have never herd or or seen a vet office giving back your pets just a couple of hours after getting spayed/neutered. It’s so concerning. They are covered in blood in there lower half and not just your normal spotting
