My husband, me and our two dogs stayed 2 nights at this motel. We had a brief but good experience at check in with the owner. I was pleasantly surprised to get a nice thank you email 2 days after we left. The dog fee was reasonable, we stayed in the building across the street from the office where there was a grassy area for the dogs. We loved the laminate floor, the room was clean and furniture/linens in good condition. The bed was firm and comfy. The shower was clean with good water pressure. There is also a distillery on the grounds but unfortunately we did not find time to stop in. Maybe next time. This motel is a very nice asset to this small town. We were thankful to have a nice place to stay when we could not stay with family. Oh, and the towels really are big and fluffy!

We really liked the location and the room was great. Loved the large table in the room. Very disappointed that there was an upcharge for using a credit card. We were not made aware of this.Walkability: We were able to walk around the city and feel safe. There were sidewalks in places and nice wide streets when no sidewalk.Food & drinks: Subway is about your only option for dinner in the town.

Standard roadside motel. Seemed clean and updated. Still just a roadside motel, though. Towels were folded wet -- not run in dryer long enough. Weird, but, whatever. Bottom towel was dry. Must have been from a previous clean.

The PERFECT spot to spend the night! Sign says there are new local owners, and I can say that Victoria was super lovely and helpful when I called ahead to book.I arrived late and they have doors with code locks so you can just check yourself in and out.It was extremely clean, and cozy. Bed was very comfortable. And the towels were thick, and soft!They’ve done some pretty renovations, and as a woman traveling alone I felt very safe because Victoria and her family live on the property.A bonus is they have a tasting room (!) with Nebraska sourced bourbon, and other liquors.Just a really excellent find that is super close to all the interstates but without the busyness and noise of most chain hotels.

This was actually a decent place to stay! When we walked in, the room was stuffy BUT when turned the ac on, it quickly cooled down within minutes!Ref was off (unplugged) so we plugged it in. Took a little longer to cool down but it did the job.Bed was between soft and medium.Reason was not a perfect score was that I found 2 crickets that were scurrying across the floor. They could have easily came in when we had the door open to bring luggage inside but we don't know for sure. Could be there before we walked in. So benefit of doubt kept this at 4 instead of 3 or 5.Customer service was outstanding.I would stay here again if I needed to.

Needed to pull off unexpectedly (it was too windy out for my little car), so I pulled in here. It was late and I got the last room. Owner/manager was friendly, room was perfectly clean, and the rooms have been updated. And there was great pressure in the shower (and a new, nice shower head).This place was a very pleasant surprise after a long day.

What a great stay! Clean updated rooms and very comfortable beds. We where a very arrival but that was completely accommodating, the owner sent us the code for the room so we could just go strait to our room and crash. It was cold out so it was so lovely to walk into and already warmed up room and bed. The little extra things they did for us without us asking where really appreciated. We had our dogs so they gave us a room right next to a grass patch so we could just walk out and it was right there! An even better unexpected treat was the distillery! Very delicious Whiskey, bourbon, vodka, and brandy. Completely locally sourced!! So much fun to walk over and have a taste test and go home with a few of your favorites. You will not be sorry. What jem. So impressed. We will be back for sure! Thank you so much!

We spent a night at the hotel on our bicycle ride across the country. We were very impressed with the upgrades the new owners have done. Ryan, the owner was super nice and accommodating. He did our laundry for us for $5 and even loaned us his van to go down to a local restaurant for dinner. I really enjoy his little Distillery next door and the free samples he offered. I would highly recommend this little gem.

We stayed in a different motel over 12 nights on a motorcycle trip across the US. We prefer "Mom and Pops", and this motel was a favorite! The property changed hands in 2020 and since then received many updates. Be sure you are reading recent reviews. The new flooring and linens were great quality, the mattress and pillows very comfortable, and everything CLEAN. Being in a small town, the traffic was light and room quiet. Ryan was delightfully kind and truly wanted to be sure we had what we needed. He shows care for his community, workers, and guests alike. Be sure to take a tour of this distillery and sample his wares. This is entrepreneurship at its best!

Fair price. Received a text message shortly after booking with a pin code, and directions on how to use it, which is nice for people that are unfamiliar with them. It was nice to be able to go straight into the room upon arrival without having to go to the office for a key.The room was clean, beds were comfy, and they had the higher end fluffy towels. Water is hot, and great pressure. I was please with our stay.The owner walked over to our vehicle the next morning to introduce himself and he was very kind.I would stay again if ever driving through, definitely recommend this place!

I was there for three months for work. It became my home away from home. The room was clean and comfortable. Ryan and his wife are nice and easy going. I would like to give a HUGE shout out to Victoria for assisting me with my paperwork for my next assignment. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a night or extended stay.

Just absolutely perfect. From the bed's comfortability to the washroom and towels! If this place is an option, one should definitely come on in :) Also if you're into it, check out The Long Dog Distilling next door, won't regret it.

We travelled out for a funeral and Ryan and his crew were wonderful. This is an older motel with spacious updated rooms. The lacquer art on the sinks looks phenomenal. The beds were comfortable and the minifridge was nice to have. The linens were clean and crisp.They also have a distillery on site and we did a very educational tasting session with Ryan. They only sell onsite, so make sure you try their products and buy more than a bottle. Long Dog Distillery if memory serves me correctly.They have a snack and ice room and their internet was great. They also don't get upset if you fill your cooler before you head out. Very friendly people!The hotel is right off the roadway, but we didn't hear much traffic in our room. It's located right across from a Dollar General, so if you need anything, it's right there. Just down the street is the Subway, gas station and an adorable Midwest town full of nice people. The park is awesome and we felt right at home. We will definitely be staying there again in the future!Thanks Ryan!

We stayed and found the Shady Rest Hotel to be a gem. The rooms are clean and and the beds are luxurious. We enjoyed all the amenities and the owners were very welcoming and accommodating to all of our needs. The front yard is like a park with outdoor grills and picnic tables. We would definitely come back again.

My dad and I were traveling out there from Arizona to pick up a new trailer and just needed a place to crash. We called ahead to set up a room for the night. They were pleasant and warned us that with the Corona happening that everything was closed at 8 so if we wanted food to get it before coming into town. Helping us out more than just setting up a room was super helpful and appreciated. Great place and people. Would suggest staying here to everyone traveling through.

What a nice surprise for a motel! While the furnishings probably date from the early 1990s and a few items could be repaired, they got the most critical things right: The room was clean and the bed was inviting! Plush bed linens along with plush towels that I normally only get at much more expensive hotels. A/C was excellent. Doors were electronic PIN operated. Front desk clerk was deadpan and not exactly warm and welcoming at check-in. Might have been a cultural thing for her. I'd certainly stay here again!

This place was a hidden gem. Honestly, we chose another establishment in the area because I saw the other place online first. But, they gave away our reservation within 24 hours if making it, and I only knew because I called back to ask a question. So....I was back to the drawing board. I dug a little deeper and found the Shady Rest Motel. I'm So glad I did. I booked and paid online, so the day of arrival, I received a text message with the room number that we would be staying in, and the electronic key code along with directions of how to get in. The text message came from the owner himself, and he was sure to let me know that I could reach directly out to him if we needed anything. The room was more than sufficient, brand new linens and pillows were on the beds, and there were fluffy towels for all four of us. We had a great experience, and we will choose to stay at this Motel again. It is clear that the new ownership is working their butt off to make this a great place!

Parents put us up for a few nights at the Shady Rest. Edith was welcoming, and our room was clean and comfortable. They have recently replaced the mattresses, which was a much welcomed change from the last time we stayed. Based on our most recent experience, I would stay again when we visit in the future. Not a great deal for the price. Non-smoking room, but had cigarette butts under the bed and had to deal with the smell the whole night. Towels, sheets, carpet, pillows seemed very old/used. Hospitality was pretty meh as well, clerk did bare minimum in providing room and information, office closed earlier than their posted hours as well.
