Expectations can lead to disappointment. First the chicken wild rice soup was very good even though it was cream, not the expected broth, based. Husband ordered a Patty Melt that waitress said would be pink in the middle. It was red, very red, very undercooked. I ordered half a Croissant Club sandwich and soup. The bread wasn't a croissant, wasn't flaky. But the worst thing of all? Husband doesn't like to inconvenience waitresses so he didn't tell me until the next day that he thought his serving of cherry pie was skimpy. He was either served the last underwhelming piece or, worse yet, all of the cherry pie was made halfway filled. If a restaurant is going to be known for its pies then every serving needs to be of excellent quality. The pies I read about in reviews sounded delicious. Our choices were ordinary apple and cherry. Or cream pies based on Girl Scout cookies. Or peanut butter banana. Disappointing choices on this day. It doesn't help when the waitress said, more than once, that she doesn't eat pie "so you will have to tell me whether it's good or not." It's not. Maybe try Peking, the local Chinese restaurant, or go on down the road a little ways to Bozeman where there are many options.

We ordered pies for our wedding this August and it was perfect! My husband and I aren't big cake people so we decided to do pie instead and the Three forks pie lady was the perfect place for us. They took and made our somewhat large order no problem and we had so many people raving about how great they were! I only got to try the key lime but it was amazing!

Stopped in on our way to Wyoming. I can’t get over how cute this little town is. Beautiful small town USA. The Iron Horse Cafe continued that sweet vibe. Clean and quaint with the friendliest staff. We had a Buffalo Caesar Wrap, Club Sandwich and a BLT, loved all of them. Fresh ingredients and the Fries were SO YUMMY! If you’re driving I90 between Butte and Billings, I recommend grabbing a bite at Iron Horse Cafe & Pie Shop and don’t make the mistake that we did, SAVE ROOM for dessert. Their Fresh Pies looked amazing!!Kid-friendliness: They are kid friendly. There was a table with grandparents and two very loud children. It was disturbing but you could tell the grandparents were trying there best to quiet them. Regardless, the staff was still kind and courteous to the exhausted grandparents.

I finally made it to this locally famous, hidden gem of a pie shop! Although the other diners raved about their meals, I was there for some Pie Action. They were delicious! I could endlessly wax poetic about their fresh and tasty goodness. My only concern was that the lovely owner/Pie Lady was underpricing her sweet masterpieces. But I overcame my guilt and scooped up some generous sized pieces. I will come back soon for one or two of their legendary Huckleberry Pies. Word on social media says people line up as if they were hoping to score Taylor Swift tickets. Surely that is a tiny bit exaggerated.....

You have got to find this place! It has the best comfort food. And pies to die for… They are personable and make you feel like family. All the food is made fresh so you have to be patient but is well worth the wait and gives you all the more time to visit and chat. We were on vacation to Montana and the Iron Horse was our first stop after picking up rental car at Billings airport. We were looking for a local place to eat. When we got there there were no seats for the four of us but there were two people at one of the booths that could hold four and they were so kind to move to a smaller table so we could be seated right away. It was such a kind gesture that we immediately felt welcome. What a great way to start what turned out to be a great vacation and as we were headed back to the airport at the end of our vacation we stopped there again for lunch. Oh, and it is veteran owned and supports vets and first responders. Be sure to thank her for her service!

There is no doubt that Jamie has more than earned her moniker of #ThreeForksPieLadyAlongside the delicious pies is a fabulous food menu with tasty and inventive daily specials. If you are anywhere in the area and you don't stop in, you are doing your taste buds a huge disservice!

The amount of love I have for this small town cafe can not be put into words, but I will try. The food and desserts are absolutely delicious. The service was friendly, and the timing was great even with the place being packed. The best part is they are Veteran owned, I've already ordered another pie to pick up next week.Kid-friendliness: There are plenty of booster seats and coloring pages for kids.

My family and I love, Love, Love this place. Great waitresses and the food is wonderful. It is a downhome feeling cafe and obviously people like to stop there and have their meal. The best part of the iron horse cafe and pie shop are their pies. They are wonderful!!!!! They have many gluten free pies as choices and those are so good!!!

I’ve been here a few times and never had good service. The food is super good. Today though we watched the chef eat food off of our plates before serving it to us (literally ate some of our cheese curds and wasn’t wearing gloves) it also took over an hour and 1/2 for 5 people to get food (there was only 1 other table). Pie was great though.

Fantastic food and service. The coffee was hot and fresh. That Dagwood sandwich I had was excellent. While it like look like it’s hard to eat, just fold it over, wrap your hands around it and start chomping. Considering all the cheese and bacon, there was not a drop of fat on my plate.

We were ready for dinner and this was the first place we saw. I was apprehensive because it was a Cafe and Pie Shop but it didn't disappoint. We had salads to make sure we had room for pie. There was a bit of a wait (the place was packed and we got the last available table) but it was totally worth it. We went back the next night, even though it was 14 miles in the wrong direction and ordered a steak and a bison burger- and more pie. Delicious! The following weekend, on our way back home from Yellowstone, we stopped in again for sandwiches and more pie. I would totally recommend this place and will stop in again any time I am in the area or passing through.

Fantastic mom and pop or mom and daughter restaurant. Diner or cafe style. Best service, friendly staff, fantastic food. My wife and I each had the bison burger. Cooked perfectly. Tasty and tender. With fries and tots, there was more than enough food. This didn't keep us from getting dessert. She had blackberry lemon cream pie and I had a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of Huckleberry ice cream. Both were great. We should have asked but wife was expecting a traditional crust, but her pie came with a Graham cracker crust. Guess we'll have to go back for another piece of pie. These are all homemade so it was hard to choose. This is a must stop. Worth a drive if you're not from around here.

Five stars! The three berry Huckleberry pie. Incredible crust. Amazing service. Impressive menu. Montana beef burger. I ordered bunless and as you can see the sauteed mushrooms, onions and bacon took it over the top. Sweet town to check out. Sacagawea historic hotel nearby.

A small and popular place. We had a 15 minute wait but the staff were attentive, efficient and friendly. We ordered 1/2 soup/sandwich and 1/2 salad and sandwich. My tomato basil soup was excellent and the special toasted cheese and bacon sandwich was very good. The salad was reported as very good too. We also for a huckleberry milkshake and a double cherry pie. The milkshake was good, my pie was okay. I am being a little critical about the crust because they are known for their pies and I was hoping to be wowed. Instead it was just pretty good. I want to add again that the staff were exemplary. They were friendly and helpful with the service and also helpful with some local advice once things slowed down a bit and they had a few moments to chat. The prices were very fair and they offer a military/first responder discount on top of that. On the whole a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend them to anyone - they even offer options for people with dietary restrictions.

Amazing food! The French dip sandwich and ham & bean soup were AMAZING! I’m usually more disappointed than not when there’s not many places to eat in town and we have to try one out - but this place is the bomb! And of course - the pies live up to hype! We had Meyer lemon. The best!

Seated immediately, nice spot, walked from Sacajawea hotel. Local and out of town people there. Good variety on menu, had 1/3 bison burger, it was cooked as requested, great flavor. Was able to snatch the last slice of huckleberry pie. Looking forward to trying breakfast.

Always good, forgot to take pics. Hubby got the French dip, always good. I got the tri-tip sandwich. Very good food as always. And pie slices to go- coconut custard and berry cheesecake.Update: I ordered ahead through menufy when we left the airport. What a difference! No line, arrived and they brought the food out. I had already paid, and tipped, so easy breezy checkout. My Retro salad was awesome.Hubby's cheeseburger was excellent.

Rustic and friendly environment. The service was fantastic. Food is tasty but the best part was the pie and icecream. Absolutely delicious.

It was so good I ate the whole thing before I could take a picture. This was probably the best cafe I’ve ever ate at. So glad to have found this gem while traveling through, highly recommend.
