It was 99° in the shade, so we headed to Big Dipper ice cream for some frozen relief. They nearly always have a long line so be prepared to stand in the sun for a bit. This is not a sit down indoor place, however, there are picnic tables where you can sit under the shade trees and enjoy your treat. There is also no restroom and parking is limited.One of our favorites is a combination of huckleberry ice cream, and lemon sorbet. It may sound a little goofy but it was fantastic! Just the right mix of tart and sweet! They have waffle cones as well as plain and sugar cones. The portions are generous and the staff is very friendly. They also sell really cool t-shirts and hats with their logo on it.

When it’s 98, head to Big Dipper. You’ll leave sticky and satisfied, without the walk of shame. The yellow cake flavor tastes just like cake batter and the espresso toffee was good, maybe a bit more toffee would have made me happy. The new Pink Barbie just tasted like vanilla, but it made a beautiful pink puddle in the hot melting weather. Good coconut cream and I was surprised I liked the Honey Lavender. You don’t need to be pregnant to crave this yumminess.

I tried the flathead cherry sorbet and it was amazing, it had little bits of cherry which was great, and a few little bits of cherry pit but even with that I would get it again. My wife tried the salted caramel as a Sundae with chocolate sauce and caramel, it was okay, maybe would have been better plain. Would try again! They always seem to have one vegan flavor in addition to the sorbets which is really cool.Vegetarian options: Rotating vegan flavor and sorbets

As always, it was packed. As always it was worth the wait. They made me a off the menu thing, cuz they are cool like that. There used to be a lemon dairy truck around town but now I only have seen him at the fair. Anyway I described it to them and they tried to make it it's like a lemon icey marries a milkshake and has an awesome baby. Creamy and lemony. It was great. My friends had some other stuff and it was all great.

I went to Big Dipper and ordered a shake. After some time waiting, I VERY calmly and politely asked about my shake. I was very kind and friendly about it. The young girl acted odd, and a few minutes I see her slam my drink down on the counter where you pick up and says, "Well there's that!" in a rude tone-of-voice, and gave me an unfriendly look.You are lucky I'm giving you two stars. It used to be five! Little miss snoot butt cost you family of repeat customers. The ice cream is great if you can stand to eat it after being insulted for no reason by an unscrupulous social moron with no business serving the public in any form or fashion.We will do without before going to Big Dipper again.

Just had to top off the supper with Big Dipper ice cream. Black licorice with huckleberrie ice cream. Line up was not too bad. Worth the wait. He made a boo boo and made it with mexican chocolate so he put huckleberry in cup. Still gets 5 stars because the ice cream is always so good.

Great location, fun, and delicious! Line was very long but went quick, plus we enjoyed the dj. Very sweet staff. Scoops are giant! Felt intimidated by the double sugar cone I ordered but managed to finish the whole thing, it was so delicious. :)

Best ice-cream I've tasted. I would recommend the malt shakes, these never disappoint. I also enjoy the yellow cake ice-cream, somehow they managed to make the flavor nearly identical to the real deal. This place is always a pleasure to visit in the hot summer months. Overall, pretty awesome!

Always stop here when in Missoula. Usually multiple times. Ice cream is super good, the line can be a bit long in the evening but they keep it moving. 10/10. On a warm, sunny evening, it's a great location to walk off the ice cream belly blues after going for the large size.One of my favorite ice cream spots around the country.Quality is good and creamy. Sizing is on point. Customer service has been very good with each experience.Outdoor seating with plenty of space and picnic tables. Great atmosphere. Many laughs and cones.

Although it feels a bit pricey, the ice cream was delicious. We all had hand scooped in a cone and loved it. The ice cream held onto the cone and at the same time was creamy and soft and tasty.If you're thinking ice cream, this is the place.

For local homemade ice cream this place is great. The smell of the waffle cone 2 blocks away seals the deal.The staff is super nice and friendly and the sample sizes are spot on. A must if passing through town.

Nice staff. Homemade waffle cones are a must! I had simple vanilla scoop in waffle cone and had it dipped in chocolate. I had it 3 hours a go and am still thinking about how good it was. We ate outside...kind of chilly but it was a beautiful day. Also, there is no public restroom. My wife had a sundae white chocolate oreo mint icecream and she really liked it.

I knew this place was going to be good by the length of the line. I ordered a sundae with cardamon ice cream and was not disappointed. Big Dipper feels like the quintessential summer evening experience.
